Just the reduction in design makes this upgrade worth it without sacrificing the sound quality and noise canceling effects. I had a problem with the generation 1 always wanting to fall out my ear with workouts. Now this problem is solved with the slimmer gen 2 model.

Totally agree. I only wish they could've kept some of the other features of the originals. But I still enjoy them and swap them out with the new airpods pro depending on the day and uses.

It's good to see that the 2nd gen has a worse microphone than the 1st gen, so I don't regret my purchase from last year. Because the difference is so significant, I can't imagine using second generation for work purposes. My callers are respected. I have the first QC, mostly to run and gym. I really dont care for the background noise or mic when making a phone call, I rarely use them for that. Although wireless charging would've been great, not a big deal for me either. 2 things I dislike about the QC buds. 1. Like he mentioned, you can only skip tracks if you long press the left bud. If you are running or moving quick, it's hard to keep your hand/finger steady to do this. And so Im glad to hear you can skip tracks by double tapping with QC2. 2. The tips are either too big or too small. They can be a little difficult to insert into your ear and twist to secure it. Or they'll feel lose when you are exercising if they are too small. QC2 fixed this too. if you already have the first QC, dont upgrade, not worth it. But if you have none and thinking about getting one, get the QC2, theyre def better IMO. One bud stopped working, so Bose offered to send me the QC2 instead, as replacement. I agreed.

I'm disappointed in Bose Microphone, the mics on the Bose QC45 headphones are the same. But they have good enough microphones to suppress sound for ANC. I don't understand why they cant use that technology for calls.

great vid, really happy to see a reviewer that puts some focus on the microphone (as i need to take calls when travelling). Love my QC1, but the charging case is one damn chunky boi, and definitely encountered the earbuds not charging in that case so that would be one of my best reasons to upgrade. However, probably wont get the QC2, but mainly due to the fact that my Bose headphones never seem to break - so i dont have a justified reason to buy new ones :) (still waiting for my qc25 to break, been close to 9 years!)

That’s incredible, nine years?! You are consumer product companies worst nightmare. But congratulations though., I understand that the quiet comfort might not be that much of an upgrade for some. I like it. But it definitely does have its faults. I keep comparing it to Nintendo. There are people who only have Nintendo councils, but most people have a variation of Nintendo with PlayStation or Xbox. I think for some who love the quiet comfort that they can go and get these. But for others if they don’t pass up on it, it will most likely be specialized earbuds for certain occasions. I’m a gym fanatic and I know a lot of people who have specific gym, earbuds or headphones. These would make perfect recreational earbuds.

I personally don't care about wireless charging, multi device use, and single bud use but at $300 I do feel they should have had some of those features. I like bose because of their sound signature. Sounds great for alternative/rock. My wife has the Apple Pro's and while they do sound good, I feel they sound just slightly flatter than bose and sennheiser ear buds don't fit my ears right. Bose tend to have a clean sound and the base isn't muddy is what I really buy bose for.

I currently have the original and have waiting for the next generation. Unfortunately, I'm underwhelmed. The QC's have THE ABSOLUTE BEST noice cancellation for earbuds. I love the touch controls (tap/swipe). My biggest issues were the "fit"and the master earbud software. The earbuds have 3 ear/wing tips (s/M/L). My ears are weird. I have medium-sized ear canal but big ears. Do it's hard for the earbuds to stay in for me. The Sony SP900N has separated eartips and wingtips. The new Bose QC 2 seem to have addressed this. Lastly, the "master" software has the device Bluetooth connect to the right earbud (The Master) and then the left earbud relies on the right earbud. Most modern earbuds independent left and right earbuds. I wish the QC 2's had wireless charging. So because of that, I'll be waiting for the QC 3.

You can get "plus size" earbud silicon buds which sit between small and medium or medium and large from Bose for the QC 1's (maybe also for 2's). If you call they might send them for free

I actually prefer the original design. I never minded having a bulky thing in my pocket, and those big wings really keep them in my ears good. I don’t like that the new ones have small wings ? My originals broke twice within 8 months, same break point both times due to cleaning them. The second time broken and they are going to replace them with the new version, I’m worried I won’t like it as much

I had a different experience as the smaller wings do feel more comfortable, but I feel as if they are still at secure than the originals. I use mine, mainly for the gym or outdoor activities. So they are pretty durable because I (lovingly) treat them like absolute crap (and they keep on ticking).

The only hardware issue I recall with QC 1 is the one the uploader covered - with the original QCs, putting them in the case and closing the lid didn’t always disconnect them from your device and start charging them. Sometimes I’d put them in, close the lid, and my phone would still be connected so audio would be playing through the buds while they were in the case. I don’t remember if I had that issue early on or if it came after lots of use. I had the QC 1s for almost 2 years until my warranty repair decided they needed to be replaced with the QC 2.

One thing I found is that the Bose QC2 mic quality is much better when you dont have the Bose Music app downloaded on your phone and only using standard Bluetooth. The mic no longer sounds like I am in a big hall etc. and people no longer have issues hearing what I say. I would definitely recommend people to give the Bose QC2 a try with and without the Bose Music App installed to see the comparison.

In terms of sound test, and comfort (wearing em for hours). are they very similar? if it is the case. i'm thinking about buying the 1st gen since they are much cheaper than the 2nd ones. The original take some time getting used and some find them uncomfortable to as they're larger with a pronounce ear wing. Took me a few weeks to get used to them and then I loved them. The 2nd generation was much easier to put in and wear around for long periods of time. Sounds a toss up as they're both equal with minor differences for the average ear. With that being said, i think getting the QCE (1st generation) is a great value as long as the fit works for you.

I got a pair of the QC og's and they broke after getting splashed with water. The replacement came in and it was displaying error messages and not working. Tech support is sending me QC 2's to replace the originals and I'm a little worried cuz most earbuds fall out constantly if I get even a little bit sweaty. I liked the wings on the og's because that design actually worked. It's strange that they made the second version worse. I thought the og's were bulky but still stylish. Looked like something Apple would sell. The newer ones look lame AND they don't have wireless charging AND I have to buy a case that clicks shut so that the earbuds don't fall out of the poorly designed case. Fingers crossed the new ones actually work. 🤞

You are right, the first earbuds really dug into your ears. These do not, but they are also very secure. And for some, especially me, more comfortable that way. You won’t get that same Lock tight security, but these haven’t budged or been a problem, and I mostly use them for the gym and long walks with my hood and hat on.

I’m having trouble with people hearing me clearly with the earbuds 2. The original sounds better to them. I’m trying a replacement. The music quality is better in the 2. The wings don’t fit as securely, so i don’t know if that is partly why the sound is not clear on phone calls, or the music level is lower sounding with only one earbud. They also still recommend using the right bud if only using one. That’s what i do now with the old ones. I’m still undecided.

Sorry to hear about the call quality with your Bose QuietComfort Earbuds 2. Try getting a replacement and updating the firmware through the Bose Connect app. Also, make sure the ear tips and wings fit well for optimal sound quality and noise cancellation. Personally, I think the QCE 2 is slightly better overall, but it's so minimal, so it's down to your design preferences. I think it fits much better for my ears and love the smaller and more compact form

I was using qc 1 earlier now switched to qc II. Somehow I feel qc I was having better noise cancellation than II (asking only with quiet mode on without playing any music). Do you agree / or feel qc ii gives better noise cancellation??

I didn’t notice a major difference, but the QC’s are bigger than the 2nd gen, so they may have a better seal. I like the QC2 because they are smaller and more comfortable for me.

It’s ridiculous that one can have wireless charging and another can’t. Also not being able to play with just one ear bud. Or to have a simple on off switch…very annoying how these tech companies make these intentional flaws…whatever keeps you buying I suppose. I chose the originals over the 2’s. I was worried that the 2’s weren’t gonna stay in very well while exercising. The rubber ear piece is a nice touch…the wireless charging also sold me on them as well. 👍🏼

It sounds like both sets of earbuds have good points and bad points about them whichever, people choose obviously. I purchased the first ones through a deal on eBay getting them cheaper than what the shop was offering. Buds were pre-owned beforehand but in excellent condition then. Perhaps if the 3rd gen earbuds take what's good about the first and second-gen ones and put those together then Bose will have a perfect product all around.

I'm getting ready to get rid of the first version of these earbuds. I'd got them when they were first released and wasnt a fan of the comfort. No matter how I'd changed the fitting they kept slipping off. They're advertised as sweat resistant....No they're not! Bose needs to come up with a wrap around like Beats. The Beats were great during motorcycle riding but I couldn't hear the music as much so that was the reason why I'd switched to Bose just to have them fall off my ear during riding (MULTIPLE TIMES)Now I have white and red lights flashing and unable to use them. The users guide informs I should contact Bose and go through a process of possibly getting them replaced but dont think I want these replaced anymore. 3.5 out of 5.

So I have the first generation since the release using them. Right now I have spent probably 10,000 hours using it because of work. I have never had an issue with the case that you brought up other than the size and wireless charging of never used it and never saw the point of it. It doesn't charge fast enough and the technology is still not there to use it over a cord. But I digress. This video made attempting to get the second generation due to being small and being more comfortable after about 3 hours. 4 hours of using the first generation. My ears would hurt a little bit. How do you used to it but still bothers And they still sound better than the Apple Oh and let me go back to my usage of it. So for about 10 years I was a commercial fisherman so I actually would wear them when I'm on the boat with earmuff on while I'm working the whole time never had issues so I had a lot of usage out of it against water. Pretty well salty water too so that was impressive People wondering what about the case when it comes to water. I used to wrap the case in a latex glove. Put it in my pocket

I get what you're saying about the size of the case and the wireless charging. Honestly, I haven't really used those features either. It's not surprising that the first generation earbuds start to hurt after 3-4 hours. The way they're designed puts pressure on the ear canal. But the second generation is smaller and comes with new ear tips that should make a difference. I haven't personally tested the earbuds with earmuffs, but I think they would work well together. The noise cancellation feature blocks out engine noise, and the earmuffs can keep your ears warm. The Bose QuietComfort Earbuds are really great overall. They have excellent noise cancellation, good sound quality, and a long battery life. If you're interested, I highly recommend going for the second generation. To make them more comfortable, here are a few tips: Try different ear tips until you find a snug fit that works for you. Slightly twist the earbuds to adjust the fit and make them more comfortable. Remember to take breaks every 30-60 minutes to give your ears a rest and avoid any discomfort.

Who told you that you couldn't use them independently. I have both models as well. And yes they can. They wont automatically dsable once you pull one out. But simply put the unused bud in its case or simply your pocket if you do warehouse work like i do. Tap either side of choice remaining once and bam!!! And the other bud is no longer powered until you put it back in.

Is the right earbud in the case with the hood open up or is it completely off within the case? That’s an anomaly.

@@wlsntech it was in the case with the case shut. Honestly it's happened before but this time it lasted about 5 or so minutes until sound cut out and I needed to re connect. I've just got them after having the originals so I'll see how it goes next time I try

I have the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds and I find the call quality is poor. Is there any massive improvement on the second gen? worth upgrading? :) Thank you :)

for the call quality there's barely an upgrade. The new one has its pros and cons but the if you generally like the first one, I don't have a good reason to upgrade, since the upgrade is more of a lateral

I just got the Bose QC 1 cause they were on sale at Best Buy. Had them for about a week now. I only use them mostly for the gym. So far I’m liking the fit and they don’t fall out cause of the wing tips . And the sound quality is awesome and ANC. Would it be really worth it to upgrade to the QC 2 for 100 dollars more. I still have time to return and exchange.

No. While I prefer the second generation, over the first, if you like the first, there’s not that much of a need to upgrade.

Nice job wit this comparison! Sticking with version one. Lack of wireless charging and a poor quality microphone performance in the second version is a big disappointment. Also think the first version has a wider soundstage. Do like the base response better version in them two but $300 price is too high. AirPods Pro 2 seem to better value with similar sound quality and easier to live with.

I would agree. If you have an iPhone, the AirPods Pro is a good alternative. I’ve been preoccupied, but I will drop a review soon. But I’ve seen from a lot of comments that some people prefer a lot of the QuietComfort 2s strengths so to each their own

That’s wild. I’m sorry to hear that. I’ll keep an ear out to see if this is something that’s happening with these models. I remember one of the Jabra earbuds had a problem with one bud not working when it first launched. These things are rare, but they do happen. So you could not have foreseen or done anything different

It depends. They’re almost so different from each other besides having great active noise canceling and subpar microphone quality. If you haven’t been convinced for one or the other watching this review, I think it would be best to say skip these. The AirPods Pro, or the Sony linkbud s, or even the Sennheiser momentum true wireless 3 might do the trick

To me the mic of the qc 2 is definitly a downgrade, it's a lot harder to anderstand the other person. But hearing this review i ask myself which in-ears would provide a better call quality because i bought the qc 1 especially to also use them for calls a lot with noisy surroundings which works good. All other in-ears i tried, expecially xm3, xm4 and earpods pro are so much worse. Even Bowers&Wilkins PI7 is much worse despite being in a higher price class.

Thanks a lot for this. The ii sounds awful and is consistent, which I have heard from other reviewers. It's infuriating as I find the Bose to be the most comfortable fit, but i will keep searching P.s. The ii sounded worse than its predecessor

Sorry to hear that. But this is some thing that I’m noticing with Bose. They seem to focus on a particular feature and are pretty behind on the rest. I’m sure the quietcomfort threes will have the same issue, a good earbud but not great when compared to others in this class.
