As a user (and lover) of the Bose S1 Pro for solo gigs in small venues as well as for busking, I agree with you on all points. For duo gigs additionally a second vocal as well as bass and stompbox or BeatBuddy (using an external mixer - in my case the RCF M18), I have been looking for a column array system so as to add a bit more bass for drum sounds and fuller vocal and guitar bass in somewhat larger venues. But after tons of research and flirting with the RCF Evox Jmix8, the HK Audio Polar 10, the Electrovoice Evolve 30 and a slew of other options, I‘ve come to the conclusion that all I need to do for great sound is buy a SECOND Bose S1 Pro and add in my old Crate Acoustic Amp CA10 (with a 10-inch woofer and the ability to dial its tweeter up or down) somewhere in the back middle of the stage space. The Bose are simply brilliant sounding, and just for adding a bit more bass and increasing sound dispersion, it wouldn‘t make much sense to spend €700 or more on a single column speaker that just doesn‘t cut it soundwise. Most such systems suffer from lower-mid weakness (as well as anemic bass and sometimes veiled or overly brittle treble, depending on the unit). Sure, cabling up with two Bose and a Crate is more effort, and will require more adjusting of relative volumes and such, but that also means greater flexibility for different venues. And if needed for more throw and treble „bite“, the Crate can be cranked up a bit more, or its tweeter unleashed, and then the setup will pack a huge punch - also thanks to the very punch 10-inch woofer. Another advantage of getting a second Bose instead of a column PA: I‘ll have the option of running just the two Bose with no external mixer, using one for each of two musicians. Or to be decadent and do a solo gig with both in stereo mode. Your video took me down Memory Lane and made me realize, once again, how much I love the S1 Pro, so thanks for that! :-)

Nice fair review. I would suggest that you mention more about the ability for using the S1 under battery power with no change in sound quality. While the battery life depends on the usage it is being exposed to, Ive found that for an acoustic duo (2 guitars, 2 vocals via a separate battery powered mixer) running through a single S1 in small scale venues, the battery has lasted 4+ Hours with plenty of charge left to go. This opens up all sorts of additional usage scenarios. We’ve actually used the S1 under battery power, not just as a monitor, but as an extension speaker to our Bose L1 Model 2 to reach areas in an awkwardly shaped venue that weren’t possible with the main L1. It conveyed the excellent sound quality of the L1 nicely.

Hi Peter - yes you're right, I didn't really go into much detail on the battery, but thanks for sharing your experience, glad to hear the S1 is working for you!

Bose in Australia refuse to answer this question which is very unprofessional and rude - maybe you can tell me. With the built in bluetooth, can you operate 4 individual speakers to work at the same time?

Honestly not impressed with the S1's sound. Very overpriced for a product that has real troubles with treble. Boxiness is also a problem!

I agree 100% l so wanted to like it due to the good build quality and compactness. I have rented it 3 times. When you first turn it on it definitely has a wow factor. But the more I played it the more I struggled with the sound. The bass that initially wows you becomes muddy and artificial sounding. Clips very easy with bass heavy tracks. It's like highs lows and mid is all mushed together some how. I rented a second one thinking it would help by stereo separation but it didn't help. Playing guitar through it solo is not too bad but the more you add to it the worse it gets. I also DJ and for simply playing music through its terrible. Some songs actually sound like a remix when there not. Adding a mixer helps but that defeats the purpose. So I'm waiting for a new yorkville that's very similar in design. There is also a battery subwoofer that will work directly with it. Crossing my fingers for a better sound. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6OtgGdmebdqiNk
