Thanks for the video! Was your battery swap successful? I have the exact same internals and the same BMS and I’m worried that prying the current cells out will cause irreparable damage to the circuits that I won’t be able to repair.

How do you unscrew the one way screws? Special tool? What kind? Where can I buy tool?

these types of screws are unidirectional, the way to remove them without damaging the battery case so much is using a soldering iron with a flat tip to turn it while heating in this way we can break the thread base of the screw and then remove them with a magnet to replace them with more common ones if the information was useful subscribe to my channel, soon I will make tutorials of this kind

The correct way to remove the push pin from the center of the battery case is to remove the horizontal pin at the tip of the push pin by sliding it to one side

I managed to open the battery and replaced a bad cell, but the battery is still not charging or giving power to the speaker, all cells with a multimeter shows a charge of 3,7 to 4 volts... Am I missing something? is there a battery protection mode? and if yes can it be disabled?

@@ivandavidjimenezescobedo5004 I finally gave up and used the batteries to create an USB power bank, it seems that Bose use some firmware that prevents the battery from being repaired after a failure and it won't charge again even with new cells.

I short the batery + 14.8v to base 2 diodos ando pasa the voltaje to speaker and charge slow but work nice

I used a flat screwdriver, a sharp one and as wide as possible while stil fitting in the hole. then push hard and very gentle turn it counterclockwise. Try to feel that you have the grip. When not, try it again. you'll damage the screw a bit but you can do it. I did it yesterday

@@tamarteleco i dont have the battery anymore but i think if you hold one side and unscrew it, it will open. I think the pin is threaded in the middle.

@@tamarteleco you can push the tiny pin out while squizing one end of the pin and with other mouth of the pliers you hold the thicker pin. So you can get it to one side. I pushed it several times to the left and right so it got les stuck. Then after 5 or 6 times I count pull it out

Anyone try a 20v li-ion battery from a power drill (charged externally first) then run into the dc power jack using a 6mm x 3mm plug? The alternative seems to be mangling the Sounddock battery case to get at batteries that will easily short the board when removed or replaced. I really thought this video would end with a toss into the garbage can.

Buy a new batt pack from Bose for $99 and save yourselves the trouble. My original battery lasted >10 years before it made me mad enough to want to replace it. Btw, I’m all about DIY stuff/soldering and I can/have repaired amplifiers/TVs before, but this seems incredibly high risk:reward. Hopefully, my new batt pack lasts another 10+ years. Love this little system. Still sounds amazing.

Ya no se consiguen originales, son OEM, ya que Bose no fabrica este dispositivo por estar discontinuado, aunque las baterías OEM lucen idénticas a la original, aunque la calidad no creo que te llegue a durar 10 años, por eso es mejor comprar individualmente las baterías 18650 de buena marca y mas MhA para cambiárselas a tu batería original

@@-broicher I opened mine up but can't tell what specific 18650 battery it is. how do you know what kind it is? Do you know of a compatible battery? The ncr18650 CG has a discharge rate of 10a. I am assuming that that is the most important spec.

In the video at about 3:40 you can see the cell identifier. It's Panasonic CGR18650CG 3.6V 2250mAh. Unfortunately the inside of my Sounddock battery does not look like this has has cells with a nondescript identifier. The cells are not taped together but are in a plastic case and the BMS is much smaller.
