Thank you for the teardown. Ordered the five-point bits and opened it easily, replaced the battery with a little soldering and it's working like new.

The Torx bits, aside from having the security hole, are 5-star, NOT 6-star! I did find some 5-point bits on Amazon and purchased the 2" long versions, as the bit has to get down that tube/channel to reach the head of the screw. I'm getting ready to detach the battery and reattach a new one. Thanks for posting the video!

Just put a small screwdriver inside the security bit and pry the post off. Can then use a normal torx.

Thanks for posting. Ignore the negative imbeciles. Your video shows what you need to know and what to expect to change the battery and you accomplished the goal. I don't see the the screw heads as a negative, you told people the correct one to use a five point security type, and showed what happened when you don't use them. The plugs can be removed with a micro flathead screwdriver. I was able to removed them and you can barely see a mark. I saw some guy drilled them out wow. Again the right tool make the job easy

I have a question.. can a speaker like this suffer internal damage by plugging it into a bad car charging port ?? I have this same exact Speaker in the color Black.. it was working perfectly.. then the other day it was plugged into a lighter car charger and after that it won't power on the lights won't come its just Dead won't respond to anything.. it wasn't the only Bluetooth speaker that got damaged that same day there was another one different brand but same issues are happening

Not knowledgeable of the circuit protection on this device. Or of the micro USB charging standard designs… But seems possible to me you could fry something inside if the USB power source not right.

I am having problems finding a battery. You purchase 35A, I see currently a bunch of 3A or 10A, but no 35A. What exactly is the rating of the original battery? 18650, 3.7V and how many amps? Is it possible to use a higher capacity (mAh)? Thank you!

Great vid! Battery illuminator was blinking amber oin mine for a few times and then green after it was charged overnight! Is that a sign that the battery needs to be replaced also ? Thanks
@elds3537
@elds3537 4 жыл бұрын
Evan S amber blink indicates charging, green solid indicates full charge on battery. Time is the best way to determine if you need a new battery. Does it stay on long enough for your use after a full charge? If answer is yes, no sweat just enjoy it! I swapped my battery because I noticed the battery would deplete much faster than when it was new. the battery swap gave it a new lease on life for my use case.

Matt Elds Elder Good point. However, I left the device under strong sunlight and it started acting funny for some time. Last night and after 6 months i charged it for over 10 hrs and it gave me combined blinks of amber and green which was the reason that made me think the battery needs to be replaced. Thanks for your prompt reply and useful video.

@@lynette7369 This would be a better identical spec match from Battery Junction: www.batteryjunction.com/sony-vtc5a-18650-battery.html. The difference I see is the high drain current is higher on my choice by 5 A difference - in some applications this matters but I don't believe for this speaker it will make a difference here. Why: I can't imagine a speaker drawing 35 A current at 3.6 V = 126 Watts at any point. In theory, the one you linked would have more capacity (battery life). If you use the 3,000 mAh version and it works, please come back and let us know! Good luck.

I love my speaker but the battery is shit. I'm gonna just saw mine in half and hope I didn't hit the actual battery. If I cut any wires then I will easily splice them. Just like all the smoke detectors in the house. And in the end I can just as much wrap it with some nice pink and black "cheetah" style duct tape and call it a day. My daughter will love it. Her birthday is in a week. Oh don't worry about soldering the battery back to those flimsy ports, I just as easily wrapped mine in aluminum foil for way better contacts. Carry on my wayword son!

@@elds3537 there are a lot of videos out there for doing things that are illegal, dangerous, etc just because it exists doesn't mean it should be done. We already have overly heavy regulations on Lithium-ion cells because of all of the incorrect use, assembly, and disposal of lithium batteries. The correct method of assembly is using a pressure tack welder that pushes copper slugs into nickel strap metal. There are already 18650 batteries that have soldier tabs on them so that you can soldier it right to the preexisting control board.

@@UltimateViper Do you think it would be okay to just use electrical tape instead?
@UltimateViper
@UltimateViper 3 жыл бұрын
@@W2811 no general electrical tape is not a permanent way to affix metal contacts to any other surface it should be used as a temporary insulator only as the adhesive is susceptible to breaking down due to heat and time. It's why Electrical tape gets gummy and leaves residue everywhere after being used for long periods of time. Even in insulation applications correct use of heat shrink and rubbercoatings would give a more finished and professional look.
