Those two rectangle black things are passive radiators. No magnets, or power. They run on air. Great teardown!

Thank you for posting this. Looks like you can buy batteries online and they’re a whole lot cheaper than replacing the unit. Was this close to just junking it, now I may try to replace the battery.

Thanks, we just cracked one open, using a knife and a hammer to break the seal all 3 sides, then a larger flat head screwdriver with a hammer to further wedge it open and pry it with the flathead. It worked easy and was fast, about 10 minutes. Sweet.

Battery: 3.6volts 2950mah 11w/h lithium ion type 18650 cell. The 18650 is common to battery packs, 18mm in diameter by 65mm in length. Speaker: Those little speaker looking things are passive radiators. They move when the main driver moves. The enclosure is sealed and of a calculated volume. In this case this driver is designed from the ground up by Bose for this application (i read somewhere), it's not an existing part they pulled off the shelf. Battery upgrade considerations: First option, staying with 18650 (18mm wide by 65mm long) format and going from 2950 to 3500mah would add one hour playtime, at half volume. (6 hours playtime at 50% volume with the 2950mah. 2950/6 = 491.6mah/h~ 500mah/h) Second option: changing battery type from 18650 to 21700 (21mm wide and 70mm long) will increase the volume of the battery and therefore charge. The 21700 go up to 5000mah. At a discharge of 500mah/h at 50% volume this nets about 10 hours playtime. Both batteries are 3.7 volts. -Does the bigger cell fit? -Will the reduced enclosure volume affect the sound? -Can the same electronics already in place safely manage the charge/discharge of the battery? (i’ll say yes since the voltage remains the same and mah can already be increased without problem) Disclaimer, i’m not an electronics guy! I’ve just had too much caffeine+ google+ new toy :) Thank you for this video !!

these things should be easier to open for repairing or battery replacement. I've had a JBL Charge 3 which the battery got rather fat and died and i had a hard time getting opened up. It just doesn't look the same anymore. I mean I also have a Casio watch and it is so easy to open and replace the battery, and I'm talking about a 200m water resist watch. They could easily do this. It would be great for us and the environment because you'd only have to dispose a battery instead of the entire thing. Not to mention that I, at least in my case, love to repair things and get them to work again.

Battery is just a 3.6v lithium ion, you just need one that's the same size or smaller (all Li-Ions are 3.6v). It looks like a 16650 size or 18650 size (16/18 is the diameter, 65mm or 55mm is the length). A $5 (new) lithium-ion battery.
