I like to sit far forward on my bikes, and with pegs put to the rear I wasn’t able to find a comfortable position.

I have a set of bosley pegs on my 690, lowered 20mm only with a 20mm lowered brake pedal foot to match, I have to say I love these pegs for the seated comfort, a much better knee angle, and standing stability such a comfortable peg to stand in. I slight word of warning if you wear over the boot pants is the pegs are brutally sharp from new and you can really see the marks on the leather leg protection on my Revit continent pants, obviously not an issue if your pants are in your boots. Excellent product from a master craftsman

Thank you for sharing your experience Lawrence! Awesome to hear that you are happy with the pegs. I ride with my pants inside the boot, but thanks for the warning 🙂 Wasn’t there enough adjustability in the rear brake to accommodate the 20mm drop?
@lawriemoto
@lawriemoto 2 жыл бұрын
@@JohannesDalen I could have probably adjusted the brake but I quite like the way the new -20mm brake tip came around and out a bit and also further away from the engine case, I had seen some reports of the OE brake peddle puncturing the engine. I also have full adjustability if I need to move the pedal a bit more 👍

Hi Johannes, I made them myself, like the Bosley’s. 3 cm down, not backwards and I love them. On the KTM 790 r I always cramped my upper legs on a long ride. And when I’m standing up I’m not so leaning foreward but almost strait.that’s very relaxing when driving for hours.I’ll send you Some pictures of the pegs GrtzRene

Same problem here! I’m 2m tall, big shoe size, I have a Tenere 700, and got the same pegs as you, 30 down and 20 back. Its uncomfortable when sitting but better when standing. I also had troubles adjusting the brake and shift lever to the new “lowered” position. I ended up swapping them for just 20mm lower pegs. I’ll be making a video about the whole process soon so stay tuned if you’re interested!

Ergonomics on a bike is what can make it or break it so to speak. Even if I am only 177cm I still have lowered pegs on my DR mainly to reduce the angle on my hips and knees but strangely always tend to ride with my toes on the pegs but it is good to have the option of moving my feet to relieve any discomfort if needed and move on the seat better. Sometimes you can modify things to improve the ergonomics but other times your body will naturally adapt, like everything it is trial and error to find what works but it takes time, what makes you comfortable on the bike can also effect the balance of the bike, weight too far back or forward can make the bike not handle as good in certain off road situations, especially weight moved back makes the front lighter so less front end feel. As a side note I finally watched season six of Vikings during the week and instantly thought of you and riding the bean on your journeys around Europe or preparing for your next voyage to a foreign land, the Viking spirit is alive and well in Norway, just keep the raping and pillaging down to a minimum, and May the gods favour you. 👍👍👍
@JohannesDalen
@JohannesDalen 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Feeling cramped, especially in the hips trying to use the rear brake or shift with stiff mx boots is no fun at all. I have the stock pegs on now and while it’s a much more cramped position, I can already tell it feels better in the hip area and it feels good to let me feet rest on the pegs instead of flexing my hips to stay in place. Haha, yeah, the Viking spirit is strong in us scandinavian people, but these days it’s mostly the adventure lust and less plundering 😅

Hey Johannes. Really enjoying your channel! I'm a 6'4"(193cm) 230lbs(104.3kg) size 13 boot(46-47 Euro) novice adventure rider. I picked up a used WR250R a few years ago and am loving the Fastway Adventure Footpegs that came with it. Tons of real estate and grip to push the bike around. Probably not in your price range since they are close to $300 before tax/shipping, but worth consideration if other options don't work out. A buddy of mine installed the Pivot Pegz and didn't like how they flexed, changing the foot angle relative to the rear brake/clutch. To each their own i guess. Good luck finding something that works for you. Cheers!

Hello there my big friend, thanks a lot for the kind words! The WRR is a very cool bike, shows that you don’t need the biggest or fanciest bike to enjoy an adventure. I’ve heard good things about the Fastway pegs, glad you like them, but as you say they are a bit too expensive. Interesting that you’re mate didn’t like the Pivot ones, they’ve been recommended to me several times. Have a great day!

Great stuff as always Johannes. You change pegs once. Twice. Three times. Then you buy a Tig welder, and from that time forward you are on a slippery slope to becoming a rider who is also a fabricator. Enjoy!

@@JohannesDalen yes. In my opinion they help take away discomfort that can come with flat pegs as you move around the bike. Rather than ankles, knees and hips having to bear the brunt of any misalignment, the pivoting pegs take care of some of this. So you can sit or stand back or forwards without unnatural ankle flex.

I didn't even know that modified position pegs were available. Being 6 feet tall, lower pegs are something I am interested in for my CRF250L. The Rade Garage website has really nice products on it. I'm impressed! Looks like a KTM or 'Varna needs to find a place in my garage. Something has to go first!

@@JohannesDalen for my age (67), weight (140 lbs) and the fact that I've had a lapse of about 15 years riding, the 250 is a good fit. I like the really simple maintenance schedule!!! But my old 2 cycle dirt bikes really went when I opened up the throttle - the Honda does not. If you like your brother's 250, you might like the 300 (actually 285cc), but I suspect it couldn't replace your 690 or 701 without heavy modification. I bet you're hooked on all that Husqvarna power!

Nice upgrades on the KTM. Have you finished the suspension upgrade on the DRZ? If so, how does it compare with the KTM? Apart from the power difference, does the KTM solve the problem of the DRZ 5 gears on the HWY issue. Which do you prefer the feeling of the throttle response from the carb vs EFI?

Thanks a lot for the questions! These are all questions that I’m going to answer in upcoming comparison videos, so I’ll note these down. If you could ask the questions in the Q&A tab I can answer them in the video 😁 Yes the shock on the DRZ is back, rebuilt and with a stiffer spring - feels so much better than what it did, but I have only sat on it and not ridden it yet. The DRZ isn’t registered at the moment to save cash on insurance 🙂 Hope you understand regarding the rest of the questions 😁 have a greay day!

Hi again:) I think the stock pegs are just awful. They are just too narrow and will eventually hurt from putting pressure on the foot and calf muscles. I installed wider and lower legs (can't remember the brand at the moment) and I'm pretty happy.

Hi Johannes, just ordered a GASGAS 700 ES and beeing , as you, 6,5 I was curious what you have found beeing the best solution for a comfortable riding position. Is it lowered pegs, raised handlebars, or higher seat? Probably all of the above, but what gave the best result? Apparently the GASGAS is higher stock but I believe I also need to add something else. Ha en bra sommar.

Congrats on a new bike Fråga, it looks sweet in red! So I have the tall Seat Comfort seat which adds 2 cm, and I have the pegs lowered by 2 cm as well. That makes the seating position good. The bars have 1cm rise from the Rally tower, but I think most people at our heights would add some more rise to the bars. Personally I’m okay with it because I just lean further over in the attack position. Start with some bar risers and lowered pegs, those are the cheapest options. The SC seat is expensive (but good). Best of luck with your new bike!
