Psychic Bill! I just spent a couple of days trying to figure out top of keyway tension wrenches and what to purchase, then after I gave up, my phone dinged and this video popped up!! Thank you! ( now if I could just teach my fingers to detect counter rotation!)

I've been waiting weeks as well; I think Mad Bob doesn't even manufacture these until he gets enough expressions of interest through that "email me when these are in stock" system. This way he gets prepaid for his production run before he even starts work, has zero inventory overhead, and trains all his buyers to expect a delay. Smart man.

Very nice set. Bill I think I will have to mail you an old Yale padlock I picked up from maybe the 50's to see if you can get it opened. I been trying for a few weeks now. I get a tiny false set but that's about it. The lock is in mint shape and the shackle is spring me.

I think that`s where I need more practice, with top of the keyway tension. I only have one tension wrench like that and its to thick to fit in anything I`ve ever picked. I`ve noticed that seems to be your preferred method of tension as you`ve stated a few times. The newest pick set i just ordered has a few so I can`t wait to give it a try.

Bill, the “S” curve design is effective on only one end of the bar; when you try to use the other tip, you’ll have to bend the index finger backwards. A “C” curve may suffice for convenience on both ends, but makes the whole bar looks like a small bow (which is hard to fit in normal tool-cases).

Great value on this kit... I also waited about 5 weeks. Love the case. Waiting on week 6 now for my hook and rake ghost set. The only problem I have with these tension tools is the thickness... I wish it also had a .05 like the peterson. Otherwise, awesome stuff.

5 weeks for delivery. Not for me, I watched bills video on making them the other day and went out straight away and got some kitchen knives from poundland. then decided I needed some diamond cutting discs for my dremel and a micrometer. They arrived today from Amazon, with me running to the door to intercept the delivery guy before he rang the bell, which would lead to the wife asking questions which would lead to her finding out where her other bread knife went. 🙄

So Bill, what makes you use these tension tools instead of the Petersons or the Sparrows, considering that you've had to customise these? You're not use the ones with the S-bend, so that's not it. But I've seen you using these in your past couple of videos.
@darainmann8 жыл бұрын
bill did explain why a couple of months ago in a video when he got them, saying that he got these and that he wanted to put them to good use in a variety of different situations before he gave a review about them, this is why it's all we've seen him use since then and also why he is only now giving them a review. good question though.
@micglou8 жыл бұрын
He said so in the video... because of the cost, MadBob kit costs 21 dollars for all 6 of them, other are around 10 dollars a piece.
@AalbertTorsius8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the cost would be an argument for _buying_ them. But now that Bill has more tension bars than I have picks, I'm curious what makes him pick up Mad Bob's tension bars over a Sparrows or a Peterson.

Hah! Try being a left-handed picker, see how hard it is to use standard TOK tools. I still haven't had much luck making one that can be manipulated by my right hand.
@12346unkown5 жыл бұрын
Dude i‘m a left-handed picker, use the straight one and tension with your thumb. Then again i‘m german so you might pick your locks the other way round which could make it less comfortable i guess. Maybe try flipping the lock then.

@bosnianbill3 жыл бұрын
@@Claps1775 You can put a bend in the TOK wrenches - just be sure to heat them up first or they'll break. I always found my home made TOK wrenches were far inferior to laser cut ones. I made them when I HAD to, but never looked back once there became commercially available. They're pretty cheap. Check out UKBumpkeys or Sparrows.

Yes. I agree. I think their picks are absolute garbage. I bought several kits based on Bill's reviews, and they just sit in a drawer - even normal tension results in bent picks - and I'm no beginner, I've been picking for 5 or 6 years now.
