it's lack of corrosion resistance might be it's biggest security "feature". After it's been rusting for a while it will seize up and then no one can get in :)

This episode let me get into my friend's shed after he lost the key. We were just chatting about games and stuff and he told me that he lost the key to his shed so I asked him what kind of lock he had and the name centurion rang a bell. So using pixel measurements and comparing to the lock itself, I made a comb pick out of a can of corn. It wasn't easy to do and took a few tries, but once I got it made the lock popped open right away.

The rate at which these are falling make me think that sport lock-pickers should have their person (nemesis) currently available locks as a short list on their site. Then we can do a meta analysis to find the few locks worth buying.

Enclave Locks are curious product. You can get away unbelievable lies on product specs. I don't mean slogans like "pick-proof", "tough under fire", but outright lies on construction, cylinder type, pin-count, hardening process, etc. In here they can get away also, if they keep their lies on product blister on store shelf. Inside EU commercials or other more active marketing with false information can bring stiff financial penalties. Importers of trash stay wisely their heads down on fringes of business and get only the random uneducated buyers.

I bought exactly the same lock (Centurion SIPL060), and exactly the same tool (the double headed comb with the blue rubber in the middle), and I still can't comb open this lock. @lockpickinglawyer7 жыл бұрын
Larry, often times you can tell just by looking at the design. This flaw is pretty common, particularly in Chinese made locks ... the limiting factor is usually the keyway and fitting the comb pick in.

It's pretty sleazy for them to have the big USA on the front when it's Chinese. Are you sure that the body is iron? That seems really odd to me. Plain, low carbon steel (aka mild steel) seems far more likely to me (and it has most of the same downsides as you mentioned). Typically when people say "iron" they mean cast iron, which has more carbon in it than steel and is therefore very hardenable. I don't really know of any applications where pure(ish) iron is used, though. I'd expect it to be a translation issue, and be steel.

its funny that the little "HARDENED" stamp on the shackle has become part of lock design for so long that it almost seems like something is left out if it's not on there. the problem is that there is no real definition as to what hardened means and the term is not protected at all. sort of like food buzzwords, "Fresh", "healthy", etc.. it has essentially become meaningless UNLESS it says something specific like abus' "nano protect" or perhaps some sort of boron alloy, etc.. then at least they are sort of making an actual claim that can be tested. same problem goes for "high security". chinese lock manufacturers love "top security"

Just out of curiosity, if you ever do a destructive test on this lock can you try to bend the shackle? A file test really only shows that it's softer than the file, which doesn't mean that it's completely soft. But if you can bend it without breaking, that would show that it it really is as soft as it came from the mill.
