41:53 Let me just say this. I took a computer science course at college a couple years ago and one of the first things we were taught to program was something that bounces around the screen. We were then taught to add other, independently bouncing clones of the object. The final boss is literally the introduction to a computer science course.

It feels like story 2 was a planned sequel the devs were working on, only to be told they weren't getting one, but the devs didn't want the work to go to waste, so they tacked story 2 onto the arcade version. This would also explain the weak final bosses, the devs slapped them together last minute as they were running up against a deadline.

Awesome video. I loved Rodland on the Amiga, I did know about the part 2 but never knew there was a 'true' final boss as well. Nice! Am I remembering right, when you beat the elephant boss on the Amiga, he went up to the top, then his chains snapped and he crashed down making the screen shake? Also I find it interesting that the Amiga version used part 2's boss music for the boss fights instead of the original part 1 boss theme.

Don't sounds like the usual boss troops but my God id this a nice song! What I most like about it is that it looks like they were thinking like this " Well If they played trough the first half of the game and finished It. They might as well are liking it, therefore they will like the second half too! So why don't we experiment a little bit and trow in that weird little cachy boss tune into the the second boss theme as well!" That I think is what I find amazing specially in the arcade games back in that era! They have so much freedom to compose weird ass amazing out of the ordinary catchy and quite complex and moody soundtracks! ( Listen to Dinamite Heady, Gunstar Heroes. Alien Soldier or even Ristar for instance!! They all have atmosferic fantastic music that seems to stimulate our brains! I listen to them even to this day!!)

The composer (Tawada Tsukasa) at the time was a 25 year old musical school graduate who was influenced by the Spanish composers Albeniz and Granados. He said he was "aiming to bring back the pure fantasy we had in our hearts as children" with this OST. I think he definitely succeeded, as the Waltz of the Ants (the title music of all the ports and the music of the second stage of the Pyramid Route) still makes me tear up. Mr Tawada is still composing for games and posts some of his piano performances on his KZbin channel as well.

I think the brain boss dies on its own because it needed to be kept in that protective glass case to stay alive? So as you're fighting it, it's slowly dying the entire time. That might be a neater idea if this was explained, but it doesn't really fit the robot or pyramid theme incredibly well. The true final boss is likely a reference to something, but it's motivation was poorly explained, it manages to run away after it's beaten, and it led to your father''s death. Not a stellar way to tie everything together.
