Really really well. It tightens up fast solos and sweep picking amazingly

I'm happy with my CS-3. I've owned it less than a year. So time will tell… It does what it's supposed to and does it well, and I didn't pay a whole lot for it. Kudos to Boss on this one. It is well made. Has curb appeal. Best compressor I could find for a small price.

It balances your tones, and sustains a the signal well after it fades. Add a noise gate and digital delay pedal and you'll understand.

It must be awesome having all the pedals with you:D all those options and 'toys' at your disposal

I've tried a few other compressors and this is probably the best one. Used with a fast attach and release it just smooths it out a bit. Very nice and transparent. You can also use it as a boost for solos. It makes the solo nice and even. How he uses it at 1:45 is how I do.

Thank you; sensible and constructive run through. I have a two control compressoer built into my Boss ME 50 and I wonder whether I can get more from such as this. Perhaps I can - I seek the sustain/feedback with overdrive:)

I just got mine! Paired with a fulltone robin trower overdrive it perfect

Thanks dude, I'm thinking about buying one too.

I love my CS2. If I could only have one pedal in addition to my overdrive, this would be it. I am very heavy handed when it comes to picking, and this really smooths out and refines my sound. That, and the NS2 noise gate, and my Strat just sings. So does my Les Paul and SG.
@popomczowzow15 жыл бұрын
All boss effects have a level switch, which is a volume switch. So you can have your amp volume around 4 and then when you play the solo you can have the level high on your pedal.

Like all Boss pedals, this is an incredible circuit designed by the best engineers money can buy. It is also populated with cheap components in order for Boss to profit. Simply following a mod like Brian Wampler's "Full Body" or "Fat" mod can turn this pedal into Gold. I'm a Comp junkie, have had them all, and my modified CS-3 is hands-down my best. The parts are merely a few dollars, and the mods take about an hour or so depending on experience. Once completed, WOW! You will see what I mean.

Man, I'm sat hear with aside who uses a CS-3 on tour. He's played Gifstock, Claverham, Kingston Seymour & elsewhere. He's hugged all over. It makes his Squier Strat sound great. Great demo.

i like the riffs that u played, im mostly a rock to metaliest metal of metal person, but those are pretty nice, and the cs 3 is something i always have in my pedal setup even if i don't use it because it's a fun thing to play around with

@POPmaster11 So? You watched this cause you wanted to listen to good music? It's a demo of pedals. It's really nice to be able to do a direct comparison to the other pedals
@fortaaron11 жыл бұрын
this is the only demo of this pedal in english on youtube, i wanted a demo of the CS400 but the CS300 was the only one on, it gave me an idea of how it will boost or reduce the sound, clean it up a bit, make it sound nicer, and when i got the pedal it did everything but better cause its a newer pedal :p i came to see what it did and it satisfied that, just cause there are better people that make demos of stuff dosent mean its a shitty demo.

I bought a boss pedal years and years ago as I wanted sustain like Brian May.. When used live it just gave loads of hiss, un-controlable feedback and left everybody saying 'so what's it meant to do then?'. 12 years later i'm thinking of digging it out and trying again!
@trombleymd12 жыл бұрын
Yeah it has a couple of compressors and limiters like the cs-3 and dyno

I was never keen on zoom or other multi effect pedals but I just picked up the zoom G2nu and that thing is highly adjustable and comes complete with a drum machine and chromatic tuner built in...it's pretty sweet try it out at guitar center. 100 presets which most of them are ass....but you can make your own beastly sounds with it.
@JesusOurKing9 жыл бұрын
I read Zoom are really know for their Compression and Noise-Gate so I picked up a G1Xon and it has the same functions you mention. It's the most transparent pedal I've ever used. It doesn't color the sound of my amp at all. I just wish they'd add "Octave Fuzz" : ) I need that effect sound so bad !! : )
@danzifer9 жыл бұрын
aLinux TV Octave is awesome.

for your setup, i would go pog or cs3 first (experiment), to satch, to ph7, to dd7. it will make a difference if you put the pog or the cs3 first, and it's up to you which one you prefer, there is no right or wrong. try it out and have fun!
@herculesrockafeller14 жыл бұрын
It depends on the sound you want. It does different things depending on where it is. You just have to watch because you will get more noise if it is after a noisy distortion pedal. I usually put it first. I saw a guy with one first and one last to get different sounds.

@shanepittenger15 жыл бұрын
it works bets if it is in the front of your chain but the beauty of effects is that you can do what ever you want with them, but for the most part you put it in front
@popomczowzow15 жыл бұрын
If you want it to do mainly volume, you can turn down whatever you want off and have the level up- I do it w/ my Boss BD-2 sometimes if I just want a volume boost- turn down all the tone and gain and what not but just crank the level.
@andrewmoran35713 жыл бұрын
@Guitarplar - I agree with you -he is doing a simple demo not a lesson - he states the obvious but you have to cover everybody so someone who has never used one at all knows what it does -well done jason -plus I bet he doesnt read all the negative comment LOL

did you run the CS-3 straight out of the amp input, or through the amps effects loop?

I just got this pedal. I'm having some doubts on where I should place it. I'm running my pedal board in this exact order; Digitech Whammy, Dunlop Cry baby, Boss Metal zone, Boss DS1, Line 6 DL4. Where would you recommend I put this pedal in order to get the best out of it?
@atyourlasthourrr15 жыл бұрын
i have this pedal and i run it first in my effects loop from my valveking head.. my set up goes like this BOSS cs-3-->MXR M-108-->ISP Decimator-->BOSS Digital reverb. i play death metal and do a lot of sweeping and soloing. can anyone give me any advice on how to get the best sound out of this setup. im looking for a very clean and heavy distortion where you can make out every note and harmonics kind of like necrophagist any help would be appreciated. thanks.

hey thanks...any suggestions on which one i should get...was thinking of gettin a rack mount compressor/limiter/gate and being done with it,prolly a dbx 166xl or similar

@xxBlazionxx15 жыл бұрын
Boss pedals are well crafted. The only way i know that you can break it is using the wrong voltage adaptor with them (anything but 9v) but that shouldn't be a problem. 9v adaptors are very easy to find. I'm getting one today.

does the compressor go good with distortion pedals? CAN ANYONE HELP ME BY ANSWERING THIS QUESTION PLEASE??? just wondering if this compression sustainer actually match up good with a boss distortion pedals....or is it just mainly for cleans and country/blues/jazz??
@fahrigonzo14 жыл бұрын
does this work on keyboards? like, if i want to record a track from my fostex 4 track to a laptop, and then i put this pedal between them.. does it compress good? cos i'm not using a sound interface..
@OnlyNoobsPlayHorde11 жыл бұрын
My cs-3 just makes my guitar muffled and sounds like crap, so im assuming there is something wrong with it. I've tried running just from my guitar to the pedal to my amp, turning all the knobs in different combinations and turning each one all the way up, and i have the ac adapter so it cant be the battery. Help?
@ToneMatters15 жыл бұрын
Does this pedal give more sustain? I have a Vox amp, and it comes with ''compressor'' and yeah, it gives it more sustain but only a little bit, its more like a boost of volume i think, better pinch harmonycs etc.

@blackstormer9512 жыл бұрын
@FletcherHabit yes it will do great, but I better warn you... it may be a little too agressive and hard to control the feedback with the metal distortion on!
@STPlsd9 жыл бұрын
I wish people would demo these compression pedals playing chords and rhythm instead of guitar fills. Always thought compression was kind of useless for lead.
@sc0lded9 жыл бұрын
After reading your comment I have to really agree with you... what is the point in doing fast ditties when you're meant to be demoing sustain/attack ffs

whats the name of the song he plays first? (not the intro of the video ofc)
@EddieFrusciante12 жыл бұрын
well, he has it in his rig, so yeah. But I think that Frusciante puts his DS-2 in front of the CS-3 and together with lots of feedback, he can get an awesome sustain, check out the I Could Have Lied solo from Big Day Out 2000 and you'll know what I mean :)
@popomczowzow15 жыл бұрын
Is the DS-1 better than the BD-2? I've been thinking about picking up 1 DS-1 because I hear frusciante uses DS-1's and DS-2's. And the trick will work just as well with the DS-1 or any other boss pedal for that matter as long as you can turn down the tone and the gain/distortion. Oh by the way I just bought a CS-3 this afternoon. Then I had to go to dinner but I got back at 8:00 and I just stopped playing haha it's 1:20...this CS-3 is the best sounding piece of gear I own. Get one XD
