@@LeFeversAudio That's encouraging 😃 It seems to have a lot of functions. Back in the 90's a musician let me use his guitar effects processor for a couple of hours and it had some great delay functions with attack and decay etc, and I was impressed with that along with all the other effects it had. How are you able to switch back & forth between 2 presets only, instead of having to cycle through all four, sir?
@LeFeversAudio2 жыл бұрын
I had to go check the manual, it looks like I’m in a different ‘Pedal Mode’. I think I was in mode 2. Here’s what the manual says for how to switch that: 1. Switch off the power. 2. While holding down the SELECT button, switch on the power. The MEMORY 1-3 indicator corresponding to the current Pedal mode settings flashes. The Pedal mode is indicated in the display. 3. Set the pedal mode (1-3) pressing the SELECT button.
@PatrickJohnEramis2 жыл бұрын
I see. So if i set it to mode 2, i'll be switching between 2 presets only? It's kinda hassle if i'm in preset 2, and i need to switch back to preset 1, but i have to step/switch 4x to get back to preset 1
@LeFeversAudio2 жыл бұрын
I think in mode 2 it just goes back and forth between one of the presets and the ‘manual’ mode (where the knobs are currently set on the pedal itself). And then if you need a different preset you have to use the buttons to get to it.
@PatrickJohnEramis2 жыл бұрын

I know this is a super late comment but i a interview with josh fareo he uses this when he was with paramore do you happen to know what setting he would possibly have it at for the song "decode" paramore made for twilight
@LeFeversAudio3 жыл бұрын
That song rules. I don't know what Farro is using for sure, but I have some thoughts from listening to it. It's definitely a dotted-eighth repeat, he's doing that thing where you only play every other note of the riff and the dotted-eighth delay is filling in the in-between notes. As far as what mode, it does sound like there's some modulation on it, at the eleven second mark when it trails off I hear it for sure. And there definitely aren't many repeats, at that same part you can hear him stop playing and it only echoes one or two times beyond that. So I'd start with either the Modulate or Tape mode, lower the Feedback knob until you're only getting one or two echoes. Keep the Effect Level pretty high, and the Tone maybe past the halfway mark, the delay sounds fairly bright and obvious to me on the recording. Change the subdivisions (that "Tempo" button) until it's a dotted eighth note, and go from there.
@TheSupart913 жыл бұрын
@@LeFeversAudio thanks man i appreciate it would there be a cheaper pedal alternative you suggest just to get that sound instead of the of the dd-20 bcuz this one is discontinued but only used ones are on reverb
@LeFeversAudio3 жыл бұрын
@@TheSupart91 I don't know if these are very much cheaper than a used DD-20 but the DD-7 could do it, on that pedal you'd do 'modulate' mode and then the 800ms delay time to get those dotted eighth repeats. My personal favorite for that was the TC Electronic Flashback, that's what I was using for the intro of this KZbin video using pretty similar settings to "Decode". Any cheaper than a DD-7 or a Flashback I think you'd be looking at weird Chinese knockoffs of things, which I've never been interested in delving into so I can't weigh in on those. Just search for anything with dotted-eighth capability (it's a popular delay feature, if a pedal can do it they'll most likely tell you) and then if it has any sort of a modulated, tape, analog sort of mode that'll be better for this than a clean digital delay.

I'll have to figure this out on my own but you helped a lot basically can I change the presets with a footswitch up to 4 correct program them and then while I'm playing I can just use an external pedal just to tap on and off, another words I would set one preset that would have liked a Reverb sound another preset they would have liked a chorus sound one more preset with a slapback delay sound but I would have three separate buttons so I can turn them off or make them run simultaneously I don't think you can
@LeFeversAudio3 жыл бұрын
No, not with the DD-20. The external pedal can switch which preset it's on, but the 'on/off' is always going to be just the one footswitch.

I use the Standard delay setting, with Effect Level almost all the way up and Feedback very low (so it only makes one or two repeats). Then using the Tempo button you can click through the different note lengths, the dotted eight note is one of the ones towards the end. It's kind of a hassle to set up the first time which is why I have it saved as a preset so I never have to do it again.

Hmm. I'd start with the Analog mode, I know some metal guitarists I really look up to use stuff like the MXR Carbon Copy for leads so the Analog mode would be closest to that. I recorded a metal solo yesterday that was my favorite tone I've ever managed. I used these settings: Effect Level: 2 o'clock Feedback: noon / straight up Tone: noon / straight up Mode: Analog I make sure to put the DD-20 after my distortion and before the amp, it keeps the repeats clear but not overpowering.

Man, I would love a Flashback x4, they are just so enormous. It looked big online, and then I finally saw one in person and it was even bigger. I'd have to remove most of the stuff on the bottom row of my board, otherwise I would totally have done that by now!

I'm a big fan of the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2+... I'm running about thirteen pedals off of it right now. It comes with a handful of cables, enough to get started with, though I've bought a bunch of splitters and daisy chains to get up to that many. For my smaller boards (bass board, acoustic, etc) I just use a One Spot but for a main board it really is worth getting isolated like you said.
@christianjoseph8500 Жыл бұрын

I had one of the big switches set to tap and one set to on/off. Though you can reassign those, I think.

Thanks! I don't play middle position much anymore but I used to exclusively - it might help that since I was doing it all the time I kind of had my drives and amps set up to where they sounded good with it. When I switched to usually playing either one pickup or the other, I dialed in my EQs and stuff over again from scratch...

Is a dd20 better than the brand new boss dd8?
@LeFeversAudio4 жыл бұрын
I haven't used the 8, but it looks to have a lot of the same modes, and a few that the 20 didn't have. I really relied on that tap tempo switch on the DD-20 but I'm guessing a DD-8 with a tap switch plugged into it would be just as powerful as the 20.

Are you using an external pedal to switch presets? It's been a couple years since I used the DD-20. I know you need to make sure the external pedal is Boss-compatible ("normally closed" switch). You might also have to set it up for the right mode, page 31 of the manual talks about it (static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/DD-20_OM.pdf) but I think you switch off the unit, hold down the MEMORY/TAP pedal, and turn it back on, then you can select what the external pedal does.

What power supply would be best for running the dd-20 on its own ?
@LeFeversAudio2 жыл бұрын
It needs 200mA, so most pedal adapters can probably handle that. There are four things you have to check: the voltage (you'd want 9 Volt), the current (at least 200 mA), whether it's center negative (most pedals want center negative, there's usually a little symbol on the back of the adapter that shows which it is), and then of course whether the barrel plug on the end fits into the hole (nearly all pedal power supplies are the same barrel size). I think * technically * the official Boss one is this : www.boss.info/us/products/psa_series/features But any power supply should work if it meets those criteria. Hope that helps!
