I just bought a used one off of eBay. Got it pretty cheap. I am getting together an all battery powered system, amp/pa, vocal hamonizer, and now this multi-effects pedal for playing in parks and other places with no power. All I have left to find is a looper that has storage, or a battery to run my only plug into wall looper I already have. Got a lot of original backing songs I wrote that I got saved on the card that goes into my looper, so I’m hoping I can figure out a way to power that for the all battery setup! Great informative video, helped me make the choice of buying. Thank you!

Fantastic tutorial! Would love to see another one geared toward using an amp (my interest is in small amp setting). Additionally, a session regarding working with the Looper. What you say is true. Moving from the GT100 To the GT1 was great. I do miss having 4 settings to choose from but the portability and the battery power capabilities really makeup for the loss of the pedals. I'll be adding a control pedal to expand it + a MIDI controller to my RC500. All battery powered and expansion for looping with my t5z

The sounds are excellent and I've been so happy with it, and still is. By control pedal I assume you're talking about an extra footswitch to control Assigns, etc.? @@GuitarNTabs would you be able to setup the fs-6 (or even fs-7) to be setup as a traditional two stomp looper. - rec/play on left and stop/clear on right. So the ctrl 1 on the gt1 is used as stock? I’d like the versatility to add that similar to how the gt100 has the two looper stomp pedals on the top.

@@rafaelunplugged - Sadly the Looper, and its functions, can't be assigned to the external CTLs... It can only be operated as it comes default from the factory... Hmm, there might be, a more portable footswitch, but I haven't really looked... I love the FS-7, and its compact form, so that's plenty good for me. I hope this helps. @@GuitarNTabs I think it’s possible with midi switch controller. I figured out (and test this if you like) - that with mic output on A and guitar output on B - when you play it live no loop or during loop recording the volume is higher. You’ll hear the volume decrease once you close a loop But if outputs are both a&b volumes will be the same. You can balance it by decreasing loop volume though. But that is such a strange thing to me that the levels aren’t the same.

@@GuitarNTabs I presently have my gt1 connected to my yam 12 channel mixer with an active di box an a single trs guitar cable (2 black rings on the shaft). This is the gt1 mono output 1/4". But this output is summed mono according to the documentation. Well, being 'mono' defeats the purpose of my high quality stereo jbl pa system (studio monitors and sub, 2.1). The problem is: The current hook up does not provide stereo sound to my sound system. This factor is limiting and eliminates any stereo sounds from patches that use stereo imaging. Guessed solution: I'm going to run 2 trs cables to a 2 channel di box. And xlr cables from the di to mixer. Note: Present situation is summed mono trs cable into a 1 channel active di box. This sounds great and silent. Very excellent. But it can't be reproducing the sound close to the potential quality. Solution: I am going to hook the gt1 outputs up with 2 trs cables to a two channel di box. Xlr from the di box to the mixer and powered nearfield speakers and subwoofer. There is no way to guess if I will notice a difference in the sound of the system and effects. It might be a subtle but imperceptible difference. In this regard my present summed mono system sounds very good to my ears using acoustic guitar, electric guitar, baritone guitars, and bass guitars. I need to try the proposed alternative but probably better connection method.

compare the output in the headphones out of the GT1, to your PA. It’s patch dependent whether you’ll benefit from stereo to your mixer (chorus, reverb, delay) but to get the most you’ll want stereo to your mixer.

@@tenyoum Thank you. I am still working on this and have enough cables, etc., to do complete stereo hook up starting at the dual 1/4" (trs?) outputs of my korg d1. I have a stereo passive di box (a rather cheap one at that!#@&). I will find out if it sounds better without the passive stereo di box with trs cables only into 2 powered big high quality stage monitors that I have on hand. I have so far only hooked up the korg d1 to only 1 powered speaker via 1/4" trs cable from the d1's mono output jack. I also listened to the d1 by connecting 1/8" jack stereo sony high quality headphones via the d1's convenient front mounted headphone output jack. In addition I checked out the sound of the d1 stage piano by connecting a high quality small jbl charge 3 waterproof Bluetooth portable speaker to the front mounted 1/8" stereo headphone output jack on the d1. All of the speaker systems, although quite different, sounded very decent during my initial sound test playing the d1 stage piano. The powered stage monitor produced the loudest sound because of the powerful and adjustable amplifier in the electrovoice stage monitor. The sony high quality monitor headphones sounded great also but the volume was quite limited, in my practice area, even at the piano's highest volume. The jbl charge 3 rechargeable bluetooth portable speaker for tablets and laptops also sounded great and provided a great soundscape with the freedom of being able to place the charge 3 in the middle right in front of me, on top of the flat surface of the korg d1 stage piano. Again this was not able to be loud enough to entertain anything other than a very small gathering of laid back and quiet friends or family. In order to play piano or keyboard with other musicians you would definitely need at least 1 big powered stage monitor (recommend 10" minimum) of 1000 watts. One 10 - 15" powered stage monitor of 1000 watts (common for a stage monitor) will be comfortably loud enough to be heard when playing with others including a moderately loud drummer. Don't underestimate how much volume you are going to need if you plan tp play or perform with others, especially outdoors where you need as much volume as you can possibly produce. In my practice area the big powered electrovoice 15" monitor sound great and is adjusted to a soft but room filling level. The stage monitor produces much more full sound with much more detail to the piano sound and performance; making the other sound sources sound thin and vague in comparison. Full size stage monitors produce a big full and detailed sound. Nearfield studio monitors with a subwoofer also produce a big and full very detailed sound, but the volume of nearfield monitors is not best suited for entertaining groups of people, rather they are used for close listening from 3 feet away or so, such as for playing piano or keyboard. From my amateur experience so far, I find that the nearfield low powered studio monitors combined with the matching subwoofer work best to provide a great soundscape while playing the keyboards in my studio practice area. I have the jbl powered sub and dual 5" powered monitors. This 2.1 3 piece sound system is stereo and is professional quality at a very affordable price. When you play you will think you are in a cathedral or some other awesome sounding place! The jbl 3 piece nearfield / subwoofer speaker system is probably less expensive than a stereo keyboard amp. Plus I don't know how many so called stereo keyboard amps are actually stereo, especially if they only have 1 speaker. The jbl 2.1 system has 2 near field monitors plus 1 good subwoofer. Again, this jbl 2.1 system is appropriate for home or studio use. This is not suitable for gigging or performing with a band or other musicians, in most cases. The sound of most pianos and keyboards can be tremendously improved by connecting almost any powered speakers or stereo headphones. Even very inexpensive headphones will sound incredibly good, relatively speaking.

Greetings! This video was fantastic. I just got a GT-1 and tonight is the first time I've messed with it. I read the manual, of course, but your video really helped me understand how it works, and what it is capable of. I have not a multi effects unit for a while. I used a Digitech gnx3000 at one time and almost bought another one. But I decided on something more "modern," and the GT-1 was in my budget as brand new. Thanks for a great review, I have a Roland Blues Stage 60 which doesn’t have effects return so I have to run straight into the amp. I only need an extra overdrive option with modulation as the only effect the Stage 60 has is reverb. I tried to find info on using or not using the preamp on the GT1 but most reviews did not dive deep enough, and although the sound I was getting on the small amp and combo amp setting was ok I always thought the demo videos seemed to sound better so I stopped using the GT1 and ran a Dap 1 pedal instead which is a good pedal, but limited. So thanks again for a clear concise explanation, I will be trying my GT1 at rehearsal today for sure. Thanks and greetings from New Zealand. Mike.

Greetings, Mike. I'm very sorry for my late reply... I've been behind on answering comments... With an amp like the Blues Cube, where there's no AUX or Effects Loop, it's probably a good idea to only use the GT-1 for its effects, and let the Blues Cube do the amp stuff. The sound and tone from the many review videos are mostly made with the GT-1 running into a mixer, PC or recording device, where the GT-1's preamp models are used, and that's why... Some use it with an amp too, but for the most part it's straight into a recording device. I'd give the GT-1 a go, direct into the mixer, etc. That's what I do, and I absolutely love it! I’m watching this again, now that I’m more familiar with the unit. It’s going well. What I’ve been doing is just adjusting the level from the play screen once I have my patches ready to go. I have about one through 10, just using one or two preamps. So just by ear, I’ve had to adjust the levels on the play screen for smooth transitions in volume between different songs with different patches. I didn’t notice any change in tone, so I was careful with that. And I did go in and fine tune each tone individually, mostly really decreasing the bass to cut through a mix or for live. And decreasing some of the gainer that was just getting in the way. Not as good as a db meter, but how does that sound to you? My process! 👍🏻🎸🇺🇸 Thank you!

Hello, It all sounds like a good process! Just always make sure to even out any inconsistencies with the deducated effect's level parameter, and keep the Patch Level as a "last resort" option. All the best.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I am a beginner/intermediate player who sold his amp recently because I moved into a unit in a big city with paper thin walls. I received the GT-1 for Christmas so I could play at home and the set-up part of the video was great ... and the second half scared me to death with all the tweaks you can make! Do players spend that much time just on setting up, where is the time for practice :-)

The main goal, before diving in, is to get it set-up properly - otherwise it will have an impact on the overall quality of the patches and effects, etc. Well, all the tweaks should, at some point atleast, make things easier for you, when being on stage, for example. With those extra tweaks, etc. you'll be able to gain much more control over the unit, and let it do whatever you need it to, hehe. Let me know if you need anything else. @@GuitarNTabs I’m currently in a situation where I have the option of either buying a new GT-1 for 210$ or a used GT-100 with a case for the same price. I’m leaning towards the GT-100 because I want to use it with my tube combo amp for home practice and recording without any of the preamp or speaker emulation on the GT-100 using the 4 cable method. I’m a bit worried that I will spend time fiddling with the unit rather than playing. Would recommend the GT-1 or GT-100 for the same price?

@@manhalnaddour125 - Hi again! Aha, that's a very interesting situation. In general terms the GT-100 and the GT-1 are almost identical, except a few missing features on the GT-1. The GT-100 has the onboard FX Loop, for 4 Cable Method, Dual Signal Paths and the option of having two preamp models within the same patch. The GT-1 doesn't have all this, since it's a more "stripped" down version, etc. Well, if you don't want to use the onboard preamps of the unit(s), and rather go 4 Cable Method, then the GT-100 is the choice, because the GT-1 doesn't have the FX Loop. And, with the 4 Cable Method you can actually have "best of both worlds", because you can switch between using your own tube amp and the onboard preamp models of the GT-100, using the S/R-block (Send/Return). I love my GT-1, and I own the GT-100 as well, but I settled on the GT-1 mainly because of its size and compact form. As mentioned, effects, preamps, etc. are the same technology and firmware, so I still get the same effects, preamps, etc. Every new piece of gear has to be set up properly, in order to get it dialed in just right, so there will be some of that... From what you're telling me, with your tube amp, 4 Cable Method and not wanting to use the onboard preamp models, the GT-100 would probably be the best bet here. It's hard for me to really tell, but that's the answer I can provide, based on what you've told me. I'd be happy to assist further, just let me know. I hope my response can be of help.

I have ordered both units and will try the GT-100 with the 4CM and the GT-1 in front of the amp and decide based on that. If there is not much difference I will send the GT-100 back! The portability and size of the GT-1 makes it so appealing but I want to get the best sound out of my amp and the time-based effects that’s why I wanted to go with the GT-100 and 4CM. Btw, have you tried the Boss ME-80? I have a couple available for a pretty good deal and I like the idea of it being simple (give me more time to play and less time to fiddle with effects)

So - as a complete effects beginner - this is my plan. After my GT1 unit arrives, I will first initialise the No. 1 user patch, and make it my own, with a name and all that. Then, over the next few months I will live only inside this one patch. I will use it like a series of live stomp boxes and practise clean sounds as well as all kinds of distortions / effects, and combinations of various amps, ODs, effects, settings, etc. I will also try different settings on the wah pedal and ctrl button in the same patch. I will also try different outputs - to amp, computer etc. I will also try tones for different songs and song types. Everyday, at the end of the day, I will save the patch. Next day I will modify and resume. Once I have figured out a patch I like, I will “lock it” and save it. Then I will move to the next user patch No. 2 and start over, but by then I should have hopefully understood some basics of effects and the device itself. Does this approach work? Maybe this comment will help someone else like me. And, yes, thanks for all the super demos and advice.

i use mine with the pre amp clean fender twin into a drri amp and it sounds soooo good with comp, slapback, and a little bit of overdrive. i use the same settings but with the tweed bassman and vox pre amps into the same amp and it is very very good. i use this to gig with but i play classic country and old rock. like ur tutorials, learned a lot from them, im just an old knob turner but this gt1 is great!

One thing I learned was you can bypass an amps tone control by plugging the gt1 directly into the return of the effects loop of your amp. It really makes the gt1 pop imho. Too bad you can't run time based effects through an effects loop

Hey there, Zach! Thanks for your comment and words. Exactly, using the Effects Loop Return is a great way of using the GT-1, and its onboard Preamp Models. I've done that in the past, but have now switched to running it direct to the PA/Mixer - which is pretty much similar. Mhmh, we're really missing an Effects Loop.. I've had that thought as well..

To save a lot of time and pushing buttons,hook it up to your computer and life is a lot easier. It is a great pedal. Had mine for months and never had the time to really set up up. Definitely using the computer USB and away you go. But do still watch this for some great hints if you’re not familiar with what all the effects do and so forth.

This unit shines when you use OD drives+Natural clean amp, and not the dirty channels of the other cab sims. Regarding Input calibration, one can simply keep the amp gain/volume level slightly above the bypass sound, for me i keep it gain 60, vol 70

I have several patches using that configuration. However, I really like the Match Drive preamp model as well - it's really great. When you say the "bypassed sound" are you then referring to the bypass mode of the Tuner, or?? Thinking about it, I believe only the preamp's level parameter should be adjusted, in regards to the "Input Calibration", because the gain will only make it "grittier", then volume parameter will adjust the overall volume of the preamp. Let me know, it's a great topic, especially for a unit that doesn't have a dedicated way of setting the Input Calibration. Cheers.

@@GuitarNTabs Hello! By bypassed i meant no effects/amps and master patch level only at 100 (50%) which i believe will be similar to "tuner" sound level (i have not checked yet). I am in agreement with you that gain wil only make the signal "dirtier" and will denifitely clip if recording via interface. I actually am planning to Upgrade to the Line 6 POD GO and hence selling my Zoom G3N but keeping my GT-1. In India (where i live) the Pod Go is ridicoulusly priced around 600USD. Oh yes i am making some patches using CTL1 and assigns to switch between Natural Clean amp and Matchless amp and other low/mid amps. I LEARNT THE ADANCED ASSIGNS SETTINGS FROM YOUR VIDEO ONLY!!!

Hi Steve, Thank you, I appreciate it. The dB-meter I use is a rather old one, from a company called DK Technologies and the series is their "MSD". It can only be found used these days. Another option is to use the dB-meter of a recording software, like Audacity or Cubase. I've done that, and it's alright, the rest can always be tweaked at the venue, etc. if needed. Hi there, Q1: There are several ways you could do it, for example, arrange the two patches so they'll appear right after each other. You do this by moving one of the patches right before or after the other patch. Another way, which would probably be a lot quicker and better, is to create both sounds within one single patch, by using the GT-1's Assigns. I would prefer the last option - they Assigns are killer! Q2: The Output Select should be Line/Phones, always. However, if you change setups, then you need to change the Output Select along with the setup. Also, when using the Line/Phones setting, you're using the GT-1's onboard preamp and speaker models, but you shouldn't be using those when using a regular amplifier. Create separate patches for different setups, that's very important. I hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else. Best regards.

Dear GNTabs, I recently bought a GT-1 because I needed a light, self-powered unit with little power drainage to use it open air (I connect it toa Mackie Thump GO battery powered monitor). I stumbled upon your channel and immediately subscribed, thanks for the wonderful and useful videos you've been posting so far. I particularly thank you for the video using directly the built-in software (when I'm outdoor I don't carry my laptop). I'm currently watching your GT-1 video series but I'd like to ask you some questions, if you have the time to answer. That is: 1. I have a Roland F6 pedal, I'd like to use it as a bank up/down for the GT-1. But first of all, is it possible to group patches on the GT-1 (as it is the case for the GT 100) in banks? 2. Is the built-in cabinet simulation automatically engaged when the GT-1 is on line/phone output and connected to a line speaker ? or do I also need to insert a jack head into the phone output in order to engage the cabinet simulation (i.e. that was the case of the BOSS ME 25)? 3. Have you ever tampered with the Guitar sim effect in order to improve the tone of the patches? I have a guitar with active EMG pickups (Lukather set) and sometimes I struggle to get good distorted tone (after having played valve amps for a lifetime my ears are biased) from multifx...almost by chance I've noticed that the guitar sim engaged with a Marshall tone in the GT improve the signal much better than a light boost without spoiling the GT-1 basic recipe for the modeled amp. Happy if you maight fidn the time forn anaswer and grateful anyway for your useful videos..cheers

Hi there, Obenda Perkins. Thank you so much for your comment and question, I greatly appreciate them! Also thank you for subscribing - I'd be happy to assist. 1. The GT-1 doesnt have banks, like the GT-100 does. But it basically works just the same. If you want your FS-6 to toggle between patches, up and down, then all you have to do is: Press the "Memory Edit" button, scroll until you see CT2 and CT3. Start by placing the cursor on the CT2 icon and press the Enter button. Now you will access the setup menu for the CT2 footswitch, which is one half of your FS-6. Scroll through the function options, untill you see "NUMBER +1", then leave it at that, and press Exit to return to the signal chain. Do the same for the CT3, but set the function to "NUMBER -1" and you'll be good to go. This is a great way to do it, especially if you want to have the UP, DOWN and CTL1 onboard the GT-1 to do different things. 2. I believe so, yes. You should just connect your equipment, set the Output Select to Line/Phones and check if the "PREAMP" button is engaged - if so it will light up red. 3. I have played around with it a little yes, but to be honest it won't magically make your patches sound better. What really will make your patches sound better is to keep proper volume and gain levels, between effects, preamp, etc. The Guitar Sim can be "alright" if you're looking to mimic a Les Paul, while playing on a Strat, but it won't really be all that good... Also, you'll sacrifice an effects block, like the FX1, for example, and I just don't think that it's worth it. So much can be achieved by setting proper levels, gain stages and by actually tweaking each effects' dedicated EQ and Tone parameters. @@djwindhoek - You're welcome! Great choice, that's a good way of connecting things, if you want to use the GT-1's onboard preamps. Connecting through the Effects Loop Return will bypass the amp's preamp-section and only leave the speaker running. So I take that's how you're using it. Also, take full advantage of the stereo Effects Loop Return by connecting the GT-1's left output to the fx loop return's left input, and the right output to the fx loop return's right input. I have had this for one week and it has been used for two live shows (8 hours total). It is performing well with some tasteful gain and clean tones that I programmed in. I found that leaving the cab simulation on original sounds best when going direct to the PA (and back thru a stage monitor). There seems to be limitations with quickly raising the overall volume on certain patches. I thought that knob 2 ( channel volume ) or knob 3 ( output volume ) could easily give me lots of control over volume but it does not. I think that if certain effects are used in the chain that have volume cuts they will control everything thereafter ? I want all of my patches to have lots of volume control with the two knobs I mentioned. I also have to figure out how to assign things to the control switch.

Hi there, Musicistherapy. Thanks for your comment and experience - I appreciate it. I really like to switch between the different cabibet options - especially the 1x10" and 2x12". Doing that can really add some new flavour to the sound. Raising the volume how? What are you trying to, or want to achieve, with raising the volume? Solo boost, or just more volume? When using effects in your patches, and signal chain, then make sure to always level them out with the rest. Find yourself a "target level", for example the level of the preamp model you use, and then match the remaining effects to that, so keep things consistent. I do that on all my patches, and it's so important. Assigning to the control switch - which control switch? The EXP switch, or? Let me know. All the best.

GuitarNTabs first of all. I haven’t properly thanked you for your videos. Your dedication and thoroughness in these videos is a rare find. Without your videos I would be way behind. You diagnosed my problem exactly. I went thru all of my user patches and set my preamps at around 75%. I would highly recommend going up to this level to get the most quality “tube like” sounds. My lack of volume control at my live shows was because of user patches with different preamp levels. Silly mistake on my part. Since I made my post I watched your video on how to assign things to CTL 1 (the red button when pushed on). I can now go from clean to dirty or use CTL 1 for one or multiple effects. That video was an amazing help.

A note for first time users on a PC using Windows 10. The Boss site says that W10 will automatically install a driver when you connect the GT-1 to your computer using a USB cable (you must also have power and connect the guitar cable to the input jack to turn it on). The Boss tone Studio software (download from the Boss.info/us site) requires the driver to be installed before running. If it says there is no driver then close the app (click offline then close), go to the Device Manager in Windows (right click on the lower left Window icon > select Device Manager). In the Device manager you should find the GT-1 listed in the device list (probably in the Sound, video and gamer controllers). Right click on the GT-1 and update the driver, you must have an internet connection. This should fix the problem. After installation, you can open the Tone app again.

I miss the high/low cut feature in the parametric eq that are available on e.g. Katanas. Are you aware of any update version of the GT-1 that have this feature?. 2. I've also read that the GT-1 transmits only midi cc#7 (volume) via USB-midi, but do you know if it can also transmit midi patch change via USB-midi? Already aware of the receive features via MIDX-20 but that's in the other direction. Cheers!

Very good explanation on the output select feature.. Meanwhile i found a peculiar behaviour and i need your help now.. I use a Line6 spider iv 15w as my main practice amp as well as for developing new patches.. But when i used the output select on small amp as it should be.. I found the sound very muddy compared to the line phone option that i am using now.. After using this option my amp sounds very clear and good. Is there something wrong with my amp?

Hi there, Thanks for your comment, and kind words, I greatly appreciate it. Sometimes I use the channel meter in my Cubase DAW, and that works pretty well. When I really want to dial things in, I use my trusty DK Audio MSD100 dB meter, and that's spot on. You can get apps as well, but the overall quality will vary. The channel meter, in any DAW; would be a good place to start. I hope this helps. All the best. Cheers.

If you like, and want, the sound of the Fender GTX amp, and then only use the GT-1 for effects, then go for it. However, if you like a portable rig, and want to use the GT-1 for both its effects and onboard preamp models, then consider connecting the GT-1 to a Mixer/PA or something similar. Hello :-) Thanks for watching my video, I appreciate it! The GT-1 only has CTL 1, 2 and 3 available. You have CTL 1 on-board the GT-1, next to the volume pedal. CTL 2 and 3 are available if you buy and connect either the Boss FS-6 or FS-7 footswitch. I would highly recommend the FS-7 - it's much better and smaller in size :-) Also, you need a TRS jack cable in order to make the FS-6 or FS-7 work with the GT-1. Connect the FS-6 or FS-7 to the CTL 1,2 / EXP input on the rear panel of the GT-1 :-) Hope this helps - otherwise let me know :-) Cheers!

Hi there, Phil. Thanks for your comment, and for watching, I greatly appreciate it. The GT-1 has 99 Factory Presets and 99 User Presets. Both are labeled differently. The Factory Presets are displayed with a "P" and the User Presets with a "U". You should use the User Presets, when making your patches, because you're able to store the settings and change effects, etc. Thanks for the request. First of all you would need to set the Output Select to Combo Amp, and make sure to disable the GT-1's onboard Preamp. When you use your own Amp, you shouldn't use the onboard ones, so press the PREAMP - button to turn it off. Once that is done, you need to set up your Marshall Amp, so it sounds close to the tone you're after. Listen to the songs/records, maybe do some gear research and then start dialing in your amplifier. I would recommend doing this with just your Les Paul connected to your Marshall's input. Once you're satisfied, connect the GT-1, and apply the effects you need. Perhaps some Compression, light overdrive, reverb, etc. That should get you started good. Hey i bought one yesterday ... I am a bit confused ... When the expression pedal is pressed only then i am able to hear the patches ... when i take it back to heel position ... the sound is gone :/ and this is for all the 99 patches ? is there a way to fix it ?

That's how the expression pedal works - it control the volume for the patches. At toe position it's full volume and at heel position it's shut off. Why would you want to change that? Do you want the EXP pedal to do something else??

The expression pedal can be assigned different fx. When you get to a patch use these to change assignment: Memory Edit - (use the 1 knob to move the effects chain cursor to PDL) and then use the Enter button (second button from right) and you'll have the option of changing the pedal function to these: Cry Wah, Vo Wah, Fat Wah, Light Wah, STR Wah, Reso Wah, and Pedal Bnd. If there isn't a Pedal FX assignment it defaults to a Volume Pedal. Use knob 3 to turn on or off in the effects menu chain. If you edit using the software by Boss it's also easy to change assignment in software.

Hi there, Paul Bellucci. Thanks for your comment and question, I appreciate it! Sure, I can make a video about it - but I can do one better, since it's pretty simple. Press the MEMORY-EDIT button, scroll to find the CT1-icon, then press ENTER. Set the FUNCTION parameter to FX1 and change the MODE to MOMENT. Then go to the FX1 block and select the FEEDBACKER, and adjust its settings to your desired requirements. Now, press and hold the CTL1 footswitch, the FEEDBACJER will be activated, and then let go, and the FEEDBACKER will be deactivated - just like you need it to. Try it, and let me know how it goes. Hehe, no such thing as a silly question ;-) Actually, the GT-1 itself has a USB-port, which you can connect to your laptop, etc. and record that way. But yes, you can also run it through your Scarlett sound card, that should be no problem, but the above-mentioned method would be a little easier :-) Guess it all depends on what you need and desire. You made a great choice of going with the GT-1, trust me. It's and excellent piece of gear, and the effects and preamps are great! I'd be more than happy to help out, if you need any further help. Eric, thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! Well, you should be able to get something useful for your pedal steel guitar, I'm sure. First of all, make sure you have selected the appropriate OUTPUT SELECT. Since you're using the Peavy 112, I assume your basically plugging into the front of the Peavy, right? If this is the case, then set the OUTPUT SELECT to COMBO AMP. When that is done, make sure you have a nice tone/sound going on the Peavy. You will basically have to establish that first, as your starting point. You know, your Peavy amp will be the 'base' of the whole patch - since the amp's giving you the clean sound. Adjust the EQ-knobs on the Peavy, dial in the reverb, and generally set it up, so you think it sounds good, or atleast close. It may take several attemps, and a little time to think it all out. When the Peavy is set up, I would start thinking about FX I might want to add. Without knowing a whole bunch about pedal steel guitar tone, I believe something like a compressor, perhaps some delay and also an overdrive pedal could come in useful. Depends on the overall usage, of course. How does that sound? Try it out, and see what happens! Let me know if there's anything else I can do - I'll be happy to help out! Thanks & cheers! :-)

I have a small 1W Blackstar HT-1 Head with a separate Blackstar cab. Would I be able to use the GT1 as the preamp and bypass using the HT-1 head by just disconnecting the head and running the GT1 into the cab? Good vids btw, you've got me considering buying this to replace all of my pedals.

Hey there, Warner :-) Thanks for your question! Right off the bat I don't think that will work.. Something tells me that the GT-1 won't be able to deliver/power the cabinet by itself.. I remember a question like yours, a while back, and seem to remember that it wouldn't work.. I would recommend that you reach out to Boss, and see what they can tell you.. Sorry I can't be of more help.. I haven't used the GT-1 like that, you see. I mainly use my GT-1 straight to my Studio Monitors or PA-speakers, when I'm on stage :-) Let me know what you think. I'm currently rehearsing with a band and my lead guitarist is gonna use one of these (we bought it together). We rehearse in a space which has amps in it. Would you suggest my guitarist to only use the amp in the room and no preamp on the GT-1 (as is to just use for example OD, reverb, chorus and so on on the GT-1 but no preamp setting)? I don't know what the case will be when we will do our first gig, but I'm guessing we will use the amps that the venue we'll play at have on their stage, which probably won't be the same kind of amps that are in our rehearsal space.

Hi there, Thanks for your comment and question, I greatly appreciate it. It's important to keep in mind, that what you're mentioning are two different ways of setting up the GT-1. The GT-1's Preamp should only be ON when running to a Mixer, PA, Headphones or through an amp's effects loop return. Make sure the Output Select is set to Line/Phones. The GT-1's Preamp should always be OFF when connecting throught an amp's front input. You will only use the GT-1's effects, not the Preamp. I would go for the option you're most sure of, in regards to a future gig, etc. If you wanted to be one the safe side, then make separate patches, some for the amp (without GT-1 Preamp) and some for the mixer (With GT-1 Preamp). I hope this helps.

Haha, trust me, I know how long time can be, when you're waiting on a reply! I try to reply as quick as I can :-) Okay, I think I know what you're asking for! A simple walk-through of the effects, signal chain and Expression options, right? Alright, here we go: First off, the GT-1 has all possible effects that you could possibly want, and more! As you can see on the front panel of the GT-1, you have the small black buttons labeled with - from left to right - FX-1/Comp, OD/DS, Preamp, FX-2/Mod, Delay and Reverb. Those buttons, if you press and hold it, will take you into that effect's edit menu. From that menu you can select what amp simulation you want or what OD/DS pedal you want. On the other hand, if you just press one of the buttons once, then it will toggle the effect(s) on or off. It's basically just for easy editing on the fly :-) So you scroll to a patch, and then start editing the effects, and have a listen to it. If you then press the MEMORY EDIT-button, then it'll take you into the overall signal chain of that particular patch you're on. It will do that on any patch, once you press the button. In the signal chain menu you can see what effects are on, move effects around and on some effects like Delay, you can select what type of delay you want - anything from Standard delay to analog delay to digital delay, and so on. As far as expression features goes, you have the option to connect either a footswitch, for further control over your assigns, or a second expression pedal. You can only have one of the two, since the GT-1 doesn't have an input for both, so you would have to decide. Let me know if this helps, or keep asking questions! I picked up a used GT-1, downloaded the manual and read it several times. I am using a Fender Twin Reverb Tone Master, so I set my output for combo, and turn off the preamp. Next, I set my output levels where I would like them, then push write, enter, select where I want it to go to user 1. Then I name it, push enter and initialize it. It goes to my User screen at User 1 and sounds FANTASTIC!!! Then I go back and do the same for my next effect. It also sounds fantastic at U2. But when I go back to my first setting U1, the levels from User 2 have taken over the levels I set for User 1. What am I doing wrong? Please help me!!!!!!!!!

It all really depends on the equipment/speaker you choose, to be honest, but mainly Line/Phones, since you're using the GT-1's preamp models. I might add one thing.. That speaker should not be a "regular" speaker.. It has to be something like FRFR (Full Range Flat Response) or a speaker suited for multi effects units. Which speaker did you have in mind? Cheers.

Hey, Stephen. Thanks for getting in touch, I appreciate it. You disable the PREAMP by simply pressing the button once, so that the red light goes out. That means the PREAMP is now OFF. If you only want to use the effects in the GT-1, then you have to disable the PREAMP for each patch, like mentioned above. Also, make sure to set the Output Select properly, matching your equipment. What amp and cabinet are we talking about? Cheers.

@@rigourless - That's not exactly what I mean... I mean, make sure to select the GT-1 USB Driver in Reaper. Reaper should have a place where you can select what Driver you are using.. I don'n know, but by default it would probably be some kind of Asio driver.. They tend to have some latency.. That same place should allow you to see the GT-1 Driver.. You should select that one, and that will eliminate the latency.. 😊

Hey there, Duct Tape! Sorry for the late reply.. Hmm, I haven't done any metal sounds/patches... If you use the GT-1's onboard preamps/cabinets, then try some of the heavier preamp models, like the SLDN, 5150, Orange Rock, etc. They might be able to get you close. If you use your own amp, then it's important to set it up to sound the way you want it to, and then add the desired effects from the GT-1.

My setup at home will use the Marshall Amp but live performances will be straight to PA. I'm not sure If I should always leave the Output Select in GT-1 to Line/Headphones and work all my presets in the Marshall like that or I should use the Combo Return when connected to Amp and then switch to Line when connected to PA. Hey there, Yon Blanco! Thank you for the kind words - and what a fantastic question to ask! Connecting the GT-1 to your amp's effects loop return will basically allow you to use the GT-1 as you're doing through the PA. I would change the output select to combo amp return, when you're home and line/phones, when you're going through the PA. Your patches should be able to sound the same, since you're using the GT-1's preamps on both applications. Let me know what you think :-) Best wishes.

Is there a way to set/change the response time while using the looper? For example when I record something using the Looper, there is a bit of a pause after the loop plays, instead of going right back into it.

Hi there, Joshua! It all has to do with timing, when you start and stop the loop - you need to count the beats, and end on the same. The timing is off, and that's why the pause is there... I hope this makes sense. All the best 🎸

Hello, Lukas. Thanks for getting in touch. I'm sorry for the late reply... In your case you should use the GT-1's PREAMP models and Speaker Types - along with its effects, of course. I would start by listening to the records, and pay attention to what's going on with the guitar(s). A quick Google search is also helpful, and there are perhaps some gear reviews. If you wish not to use the volume function, and only have the expression set up to do wah, then have a look at this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6TJfWmdjbqoedU In the EXP1 menu you can change the operation of the onboard EXP1 pedal. It can do both volume and pedal fx (wah, etc) but it can also be set to do only one of the two, if that's desired. Let me know if this helps - and if not, then please let me know.
