Hello everyone 😊
I hope you're all doing well and enjoying the excellent Boss GT-1!
In this video I'll take you through my Boss GT-1 Studio and Recording Setup.
This here is a video I recorded a while back, but I still think it's relevant to show what my set-up is, when I record and create new patches. This is also a subject I see asked a lot, from group to group.
I'm sorry for the bad lighting/camera quality, but I didn't have the time to set it all up, when I recorded this.. Anyway, I think you'll get the point still.
Let me know if you have questions regarding my set-up, or anything related to it - DI boxes, Power Supplies, etc.
If anyone's interested, then I'm part of a new Boss GT-1 Facebook Group, so feel free to join, if you want the fullest out of your GT-1!

Thanks for the support, it's much appreciated!
Have an excellent day!
Cheers. 🎸

Well hello, I’m a bit late to the gt-1 party. It’s 2024 and the new Boss GX-10 was released and it’s very nice. I am wondering if this is a replacement for the gt1 and if the pedals and software operate similarly. I love the channel and many tutorials. Thank you

Hi, Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it. I don't know if it's an actual replacement for the GT-1, but perhaps more of an upgrade. The effects, preamp and cab options are newer and upgraded, the AIRD preamps. The GX-10 surely caught my eye, and I might try to get one, at some point. Come to think of it, the GX-10 is rather a down-scaled GX-100, like the GT-1 was a down-scaled GT-100. Let me know if you need anything else. Best regards.

Hey you answered my question, thank you. I am a home player and I use an old pod 2.0 red bean thing. I have been watching lots about new technology but it’s all very expensive. I like your tutorials as you are the GT-1 whisperer. It is small, it has battery option, it has aux input and it sounds great to me. Take care and thank you. Here in the States the GX100 is 499$ and the gx10 is 399$ so they are expensive. 🙏

Keep up the work man. Your videos helps me a lot. My Gt1 just arrived yesterday and I'm planning having a setup for home recording. I'm planning getting a pair of Yamaha HS5 for praticing and jamming with backing track. I already had my AKG headphone for late night praticing ;). I'm worrying about the latency which could affect my play and recording in spite of the GT1 can act as an audio interface. So should i get an external interface like the Steinberg ur242 connnecting to GT1 ? I dont have tools to meter the DB like your DK-Audio MSD100. What is the alternative ways in order to meter the DB ? I have another question about the DI box. If i get one, what connection order should I follow ? Should i go like this: Fender tele MIJ ---> Boss GT1 ---> DI box ----> Steinberg ur242 ---> 2 1/4 outpout from the interface connect to two XLR L/R yamaha speakers's input. The headphone plug into the interface input in this case. I hope you can help me out. Any advices are appreciated. Sorry for my English as I'm not a native english speaker. Have a good day sir.

Hi, Bach Tran, Thank you for your comment and kind words, it really means a lot to me! Great questions, I'd be happy to assist. Congratulations on getting your GT-1, I'm sure you're going to love it! In theory an external Audio Interface shouldn't be necessary, because from my experience with the GT-1, latency hasn't been an issue, especially not if you have the proper driver installed. I would try without the Audio interface first, and see what happens. If you're not happy, then try running the GT-1 through the external interface, and see if there's a difference. An alternative way to monitor your dB levels would be to use your recording software. Most recording softwares have in-built channel meters, and they can be quite good. I did it like that, before getting my dB-meter. That's one way. Another way, which might not be all that accurate, is to use an app for your phone, for example. I would go with the recording software option. Your mentioned connection order is good, yes. That would probably be the best way to run things. Some might argue, that the DI isn't really necessary between the GT and Interface, but it sure doesn't harm things. Once again, thanks for your great questions and kind words. Your English is just fine, I hope these answers are what you're looking for. If not, then please continue to reply, and I'll be happy to help out further. Have a very nice day.

@@GuitarNTabs Thank you a lot for your answer. I'm pretty sure what i should do next for my setup. I have one last question regarding the DI box if you dont mind. I've done some research about it But still I dont understand what's its purpose because I've never had one before to try it out. When i connected my boss into pc with the usb port. I hear some little hiss through my headphone (when im not playing i can hear it pretty clear). That's not really bothering me when i play but will that noise be recorded in the track ? Will the DI box could resolve that issue ? When I'm not connected my gt1 into pc there was no buzz or hiss. Have you ever had this kind of problem before ?

@@cocorico474 - Hi again 🎸 You are very welcome, I'm more than happy to assist! That's great to hear, about your setup! The purpose of a DI box is to take an unbalanced signal, like the GT-1's left and right outputs, and convert them to a balanced signal, in this case through the DI's XLR outputs. A DI is especially handy when running longer cables on stage or in the studio. It will maintain the frequencies. The issue you're having, with the hiss, is an interference between the PC and the GT-1/guitar. I have that hiss as well, but when I move away from the PC it goes away.. Most digital modellers are like that.. I can't tell exactly what is causing it.. Power supply, guitar pickups, etc.. but it's normal and you shouldn't worry about it. Perhaps the DI will solve that issue, yes, I haven't tried, but it's an option. Let me know if this makes sense. All the best.

@@GuitarNTabs Thank your for supporting me answering all my questions. I'm very appreciated it. Admit if I have an TRS to XLR cable, wouldn't the DI becomes unnecessary ? And the cable is way cheaper than the DI. Besides in your video you said that you're runnning the DI in your setup but then in your comment you said you haven't tried the DI to prevent the hiss. I dont understand well that point. I understand from time to time about setting up my home recording thanks a lot to you. Have a nice day.

@@cocorico474 - Hi again, You are very welcome, I'm happy to assist. A TRS to XLR cable can work, yes, but only if the distance is too long from the equipment you're connecting to. That's also what I talk about in the video, and what I use the DI box for. I use the DI box for playing live, to keep my signal and frequencies intact, due to longer cable runs on stage. Different venues will require different setups, and often I don't know how far away the mixer will be, and there I have the DI. I don't use the DI for just plugging the GT-1 into my PC or sound-card, because the distance of that setup won't be too far way. Does this help? Let me know. Best regards.

Are you using TRS cables for the output to your DI? Or a normal guitar cable would do the job?
@GuitarNTabs
@GuitarNTabs 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, No, I use standard jack cables. There's no need for TRS cables, since you have a Left and Right output, which will feed into the DI, and send the stereo signal to the PA/Mixer. Also, the output jacks on the GT-1 is unbalanced, so no benefit of connecting a TRS cable. I hope this helps. Have a great day.

Hi there, I am curious as to why most people, these days, don’t seem to record into an audio interface like the Focusrite Scarlett or something. Is it a quality issue (as in usb is better) or is it a cost issue (as in why waste money in an interface). Thanks.
@GuitarNTabs
@GuitarNTabs 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there - nice to hear from you again! I hope you're well, and you're enjoying the GT-1. It all really depends on the situation and what you're trying to achieve. If you want to record multiple instruments, vocals, etc. you'll definitely need an external Audio Interface, like the Scarlett, etc., because a single unit like the GT-1, for example, wouldn't be able to record and produce vocal tracks, etc. That's the main reason and difference I see. These days, with all the newer technology, the quality is very much similar, or atleast as good as an external Audio Interface. It also comes down to personal preference. You can of course combine the two, by using the GT-1 via its USB to record guitar(s), and an external Audio Interface for vocals, drums, bass, etc. I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have further questions. Cheers.
@accentontheoff
@accentontheoff 2 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarNTabs Got it, makes sense. As I understand, I guess the quality is more or less the same in both options, but maybe the audio interface can sometimes have a slight edge. As to the other differences, like recording vocals etc, point taken. Thanks! Cheers.

If you're proposing going from the gt1 into an interface, then the reason not to is that it only has potential to degrade the signal and not improve it. Guitar (analog) > gt1 (digital) > instrument cable (analog) > interface (back to digital) > DAW (digital) > speakers/headphones (analog)
@accentontheoff
@accentontheoff 2 жыл бұрын
@@danmohan1981 Oh really? Yes that is definitely one part of the plan. That’s a worry then. I suppose it wouldn’t matter even if the interface was, say, an RME Babyface and the multi effects pedal a Boss GX-100. What I mean to say is that I would like to believe this issue gets less and less relevant as the devices get better in quality? Or is it just a question of too many conversions and too long a signal chain.
@danmohan1981
@danmohan1981 2 жыл бұрын
@@accentontheoff it's all the A>D and D>A conversion. Every time it converts there's potential for degradation. Once it's digital it's best to keep it there as much as you can. Now if you're going back and forth so you can run through some specific outboard analog gear to introduce certain characteristics/sounds, then go for it!

Hi there, discover band. Thanks for your comment and question, I greatly appreciate it. You can, yes, but if you're looking to record the GT-1, then you could simply connect the GT-1 via USB, to your device, and load up your favorite recording software. You don't need an Audio Interface to make it work, the GT-1 can operate that way as well. In regards to your monitor speakers, I would simply connect them to the GT-1's left and right output, that way you will be able to monitor your sound. Make sure to set the Output Select, on the GT-1, to Line/Phones. Also, you might have to take a look at the USB-settings for the GT-1. Hey there, Torino 😊 Thank you very much, I appreciate the kind words, and you watching my videos! Hmm.. I actually haven't noticed, to be honest.. If you want to use the GT-1 for its effects only, then you should connect it to your amp's front input. Connecting the GT-1 through an amp's effects loop return will bypass the Preamp-section of that amp, and allow you to use the GT-1's onboard preamps and cabinets.
