The GT-1 sounds great when you connect it into a HTS Surround 7.1 receiver. You need to use an analog input on the HTS surround receiver (such as the tape deck input) and plug in both right/left channels into the L/R outputs on the back of the GT-1. You'll also need TRS 1/4" RCA adapters to make the connection. Works great...guitar through all 7 speakers plus the subwoofer. Just make sure you select the line out/headphones as the output type on the GT-1 as it will cut certain frequencies that may cause damage to a surround system at higher volumes.

Hi there, That sounds like a good idea, and connecting through the AUX should be just fine. Just make sure to set the proper Output Select, and if you use the GT-1b's onboard preamp models, then you might want to turn Off its Speaker Emulation, since you're running through your amp's speaker, via the AUX In. I've seen videos on this exact topic, already here on KZbin, and I've tried to set up a patch like this as well, but my conclusion has been: it doesn't sound good, not at all... I hope this answers your question. Best regards.

Hey man, great video. I have a question as far as connections go. So I’m thinking of connecting my gt1 to my fender champion 50xl through the Aux in because I really want to use both the preamps as well as the effects on the gt1, but how would I go about doing this? I know I would have to buy an Aux cable, but once I have that should the guitar be connected into the gt1’s input and the aux cable connected to the amps aux in, and is there something else that needs to be connected to the amp? Left or right mono? Thanks.
@GuitarNTabs2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Moises and Merry Christmas. Thanks for your comment and kind words, I greatly appreciate it. Sounds like a great way of connecting things, especially if your Fender amp doesn't have an Effects Loop. If it had an Effects Loop you could simply use the Effects Loop Return. Correct, you would need the Aux cable with the mini jack in one end, and two regular jacks at the other. So you connect the mini jack end to the AUX in, and then connect the two jacks to the GT-1's left and right output. The guitar cable should be connected to the GT-1's input, yes. Then you would need to set the Output Select, so it matches the connection. I recommend trying the Line/Phones or Combo Amp Return. That should pretty much be it. Try it out, and see what works for you. Let me know if you need anything else. Merry Christmas.

Great video. I just bought this Gt1 and I like it very much so far, but it will take time to really get to know. My question here is, if I use it on the FX Return on my Marshall DSL40, will the Valves still be in use? Or will they be bypassed, thus basically turning the All Valve Amp into a simple PA? So far I've just been connecting it in the standard format, and just recently learned that I needed to turn off the Preamp since I already have a valve section to drive the Amp, otherwise things get very mudded up real quick lol.. Thanks
@GuitarNTabs2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Thanks for your comment and question. I believe the valves will still be running, yes. You should be good there, as far as I know. In general, when connecting through the Effects Loop Return, only the power amp will be running, meaning the speaker(s). Yes, if connecting through the front input, you need to turn off the GT-1's preamp models. When running through the Effects Loop Return you want the GT-1's preamp models on. And set the Output Select to Combo Amp Return. I hope this helps. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Cheers.

you can hook a TRS to XLR cable ot the l/mono or the R and still get left and right out of your mixer, and you wont need a DI box I do it and it works perfect
@GuitarNTabs Жыл бұрын
Hi there. Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! Hmm, that's not really possible, since the GT-1's output jacks are all unbalanced, so the TRS-jack wouldn't really do a thing, other than acting as a regular TS-jack would... This will not make the unbalanced signal balanced, like a DI would... That's the whole point of the DI, in a situation like this. Your connection will function just fine, but it won't convert the unbalanced signal to a balanced one. I hope this makes sense. Best regards.

Great stuff! I haven’t finished the entire video yet, but had a quick question. I was going to use my combo amps preamp, and use this for effects. Not sure yet, it just got delivered today. But now I’m thinking, based on what you said, should I use my clean channel, and the effects on this unit, then set up different patches for my dirty channel… and use my amps foot switch? I guess I was planning on just using my clean channel and using the overdrive and distortion effects through that. Just like putting a pedal through my clean channel. Although, I like to run my dirty channel through a distortion box. I saw here were you use the overdrive distortion preamp/fx with a tube screamer effect also. So do you think it would be best to use my clean channel, with OD/DS preamp/fx on the BOSS unit? Or should I keep a dirty channel on my amp, then use the dirty presets on the Boss, along with a tube screamer effect. I hope that all makes sense. I’m sure once I get started, I will try all different combinations. Among everything else, I want to get a really high-gain modern metal sound. 👍🏻🎸 This will be a huge change for me, as I usually just run all analog-distortion then a delay into the front of my tube amp.
@GuitarNTabs4 ай бұрын
Hi! I just came across your question.. For some reason I never got any notification for this... I'm sorry! You can use your own amplifier for the main preamp tones, and use the GT-1 for its effects - that's a common way to use the combination. You can also use your amp's effects loop return, if it has one, and connect the GT-1's left mono out to it, that way you can use both the GT-1's preamp and effects. Make sure to set the Output Select to the proper matching setup. Both setups, clean with OD/DS from GT-1 or dirty channel with presets from GT-1 and OD/DS, would do, it all really depends on what sound(s) you're after. I hope this helps. Cheers.

Id like to know more about DI BOX,,, why do guitars need to use that?
@GuitarNTabs4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Thanks for your comment and question. A DI Box will take an unbalanced signal, like the two 1/4" jack outputs on the GT-1, and convert them to a balanced signal, via the DI Box' balanced XLR connectors. The DI Box will also keep your guitar signal intact, while having long cable-runs on stage, without you losing clarity and frequencies from the long amount of cable. I use the DI Box to easily connect to the Mixer/PA, when I gig live, using the GT-1. I would recommend a Passive DI Box, for example from Radial Engineering, they make great stuff! I have their Stereo DI, and it's well worth it. Let me know if you have further questions. All the best.

I've been using Boss gear for many, many years and they have never let me down - that's why I stick to them! Did you try with the GT-1's preamp off, only using the GT-1 for its effects, and the Roland amplifier for the main amplifier tones? What effects do you have on, when testing the patches out? I'd agree, try it on different amps, because I can't understand why you're not able to get a decent tone... Please let me know, and update me through the process, I'd be happy to assist. A great video! Quite helpful. Now, there is a problem which I still Could not figure out. Request to please comment. When I use a headphone while playing with GT1, the sound is very good. But the moment, I connect it to an amp (I have fender mustang), the sound is bad. Further, when i connect to a mixer over a line connection with a stereo jack - the sound is even worse even if keeping the preamp & overdrive off. Please help.
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Dear Shankar B. :-) Thanks for your comment and question - I appreciate it. First off, always make sure that you've selected the proper OUTPUT SELECT. The OUTPUT SELECT will give the GT-1 an idea of what equipment it's being plugged into, and help shape the sound to work its best with the equipment. For using the GT-1 with headphones, studio monitirs, PA-speakers and a mixer, always make sure to set the OUTPUT SELECT to LINE/PHONES. The LINE/PHONES setting will also enable the GT-1's onboard preamps and cabinets to be activated. You will need those, since you're using either headphones, studio monitors, PA-speakers or a mixer, and those pieces of gear won't have a preamp to run your GT-1 through, and without it, it will sound terrible. Then, when you connect to your Mustang amp, then you will have to change the OUTPUT SELECT, in order to get things to work with that piece of gear. Change the OUTPUT SELECT to Combo Amp. Then also make sure to turn OFF the GT-1's onboard preamps and cabinets - you won't need them at this point, because the Mustang amp is acting as your amplifier in this case. The reason the sound is bad, when connecting to the Mustang amp, is because both the Mustang amp and the GT-1's own preamps are running, at the same time... That will cause some huge variations in sound, and it won't work out that well... Connecting to at mixer, then make sure to set the OUTPUT SELECT to LINE/PHONES and activate the GT-1's preamps and cabinets again. Go through the different preamps and cabinets, and find some that you like.. I've basically narrowed mine down to either the Clean Twin or the Dlx Crunch - all with the cabinet changed from the ORIGIN setting, to the 2x12" setting. That sounds a lot better to my ears! Where are you running the stereo jack to and from?? Basically you don't want to use a stereo jack, because both the left and right output on the GT-1 is unbalanced outputs.. The stereo jack won't do anything.. If you're still connecting to a mixer, then use both the left and right output, using two standard guitar cables, and run them to two seperate channels on the mixer. That equals stereo. You know, two mono channels = stereo. One mixer channel = mono. Remember, always activate the GT-1's onboard preamps and cabinets, when connecting to Mixer, headphones, studio monitors, PA-speakers, etc. Always turn the GT-1's onboard preamps and cabinets off, when you connect to your Mustang amp. I hope this helps. Let me know what you think :-) If it doesn't make sense, then let me know. Cheers.

Thanks a ton! Really appreciate your Kind help. Will surely try on the lines. Now, it so happened that i had a solo performance last week where i didn't get enough time to set up with gt1 & mixer on a running stage. I simply set the GT1 output to LINE/PHONES > connected the mixer with headphone port of GT1 with a stereo cable > and started trying with preamp on/off and so on for a better sound. But that day I really had a very bad sound and left the stage with a heavy heart :) ... Will surely try with two jacks to connect to a mixer in my next performance :) Thanks Again!!
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey again, Shankar :-) Try it all out and see what happens! I'm sure it's going to get better :-) First of all, I wouldn't use the Headphones Out for running it to the mixer.. I would take the left & right output and run them to the mixer - I think I said that in the first post as well :-) Generally I just can't stress that enough.. You should really only see the Headphone output for use with headhpones :-) Try with two standard jack cables, running from the left and right outputs, to two channels on the mixer. On the mixer you should take a look at the GAIN control, for each channel, and turn it all the way down. You won't really need it activated, as long as you have a decent level from the GT-1's master output and a decent level from the feeder on the mixer and channels :-) Trust me, I know that feeling all too well.. I have days like that too, and it just isn't fun.. I use a great deal of time to get my patches and tones to sound right :-) Have a great one, and let me know how it all turns out. Cheers.

Hey I have really appreciated your videos. I have a question about routing the Boss GT-1 into a speaker cabinet. I want to use the amp modeling of the GT-1, but I'd like to run into a 4x12 speaker cabinet. The problem I believe I am facing is the GT-1 doesn't have a power amplifier. My solution was to purchase a Behringer iNUKE 1000 to power the speaker cabinet and to run the GT-1's output into the input of the iNUKE amp. From my understanding, the iNUKE is a relatively clean power boost, meaning it doesn't have separate clean and dirty channels, it's just amp'ing the signal coming in without adding a whole lot of color. I hadn't planned on using a DI box. The iNUKE accepts high impedance line in (to my knowledge). In order to get a good sound, what would you recommend? What output setting should I use on the GT-1? Also, should I continue to use the preamp on the GT-1 since the iNUKE isn't a typical amplifier head? Thanks in advance. If you have any other advice for getting a good sound out of this setup, I'd love to hear it. Take care.

Hey, I have tiny practice combo Roland Micro Cube that doesn't have FX loop built in, but has AUX-IN. I tried hooking up GT-1 output to this AUX-IN in micro cube but that doesn't sound good. Shouldn't AUX-IN work basically the same way as FX loop return (meaning: bypass combo preamp and go straight to speaker)? Have you tried such case and if so, what output select on GT-1 should I use? I know I shouldn't expect great tone from such a small combo, but when connecting guitar directly it sounds quite good so I don't see a reason why it shouldn't via AUX-IN? Thanks!
@GuitarNTabs5 жыл бұрын
Hello there, Michał 😊 Thank you for watching, and thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! You're right, the AUX-in should be able to produce a decent tone, provided that you want to use the GT-1's onboard preamp/cabinet simulations. That would be the real benefit for such connection. For Output Select you should try Line/Phones - that would probably be best suited for the connection. Make sure the GT-1's onboard PREAMP-block is activated, and that you've selected one of the preamp models. Let me know what you think. Best regards & Cheers.

Hey there, Paul. Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it. Actually, it's quite simple. When you connect through the FX Loop Return, then the front EQ, Gain and often Volume knobs are bypassed.. In this case you need to adjust the FX Loop Level knob - it's on the front as well. From what I remember, then the Master Output should work as well, but, if it doesn't, then use the FX Loop level knob - I'm sure that will work. Give it a go, and let me know what happens. Your Output Select should be set to Combo Amp Return, when connecting via the FX Loop Return of the Marshall. Line/Phones is for connecting via USB, PA, Mixer, etc.

I have a Boss katana 50. Can I use the GT1 pre amps such as the tweed if I'm plugging the GT1 straight into the front input?
@GuitarNTabs4 жыл бұрын
Hello there, Glenn. Thanks for your comment and question - I really appreciate it. You generally connect a multi effects pedal to the front input of an amplifier when you want to use its effects only. So if you want to use the GT-1's onboard preamps/cabinets as well, then you need to run it through the amp's effects loop return, if that's an option, or, connect the GT-1 to the amp's AUX IN. I've had this question asked before, so I know that the Katana 50 doesn't feature an Effects Loop, so your best option is to connect the GT-1 to the Katana's AUX IN. That will allow you to use the GT-1's onboard Preamps/Cabinets. Remember to set the Output Select to Line/Phones. Let me know what you think. All the best.

However, someone mentioned, on your post, that people who tell you not to run the GT-1's preamp and the Katana's preamp at the same time is wrong, well.. that's not true.. You want to connect the gear as it's intended to.. And you generally don't want to have both the GT-1's preamp and the Katana preamp running into each other.. For many reasons.. It will mix up a lot of things - for example, gain stages, volume, different EQ parameters, and it will cause a huge headache.. Trust me when I say, I know about this, from using the GT-1, GT-100 and GT-10 for many years.. It's important to get the fundamentals down, in order to achieve the best outcome. You can run the preamps into each other, when connecting the GT-1 to the Katana's front input, but it will require a lot more tweaking and that's really unnecessary.. Keep it as straight forward as possible. Stick to the AUX IN, when you want to use the GT-1's onboard preamps/cabinets, and the Katana's front input for when you only want to use the GT-1's effects. Why do we need the DI box to send stereo? Why do we send just with two cables to the left and right speakers. What is the use of the Di box?
@GuitarNTabs8 ай бұрын
Hi there, Thank you for your comment and question, I greatly appreciate it. In general a DI box is needed, when running longer cable runs on stage, for example from the stage to a mixer, which is placed a good distance away from the stage. The DI will keep the signal intact, so that no loss in frequency is lost. For shorter cable runs you could get by without a DI, but I always have mine with me, and that ensures I'm always keeping my signal intact. DI boxes come with Mono and Stereo Ins/Outs, so choose one that suits your scenario best. For playing at home, etc. you could easily just send two cables from the GT-1 to the speakers. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else. Best regards.

Hi Berg, been a while! Have you done a video on how to setup the signal-chain strictly within the GT-1? I've been playing around with moving the OD/DS and FX1/2 but not sure of a best-practice for placing them. Thanks.
@GuitarNTabs5 жыл бұрын
Greetings, Tim! Indeed, it's been a while! I hope you're well and all is good? 😊 Thanks for making that request, that's a great one! I'll add it to my list, right away! Playing around with the effect placement can be really fun, and create some new options, that you didn't know of before! Generally you want all OD/DS to be BEFORE the preamp, since they will work best that way... kind of "feeding" them into the preamp. For the FX1 and FX2 it really depends on what you need them to do. By default FX1 is placed at the beginning of the signal chain, aimed more at effects you would want before the preamp. Effects like Wah, Compressor, etc. FX2 is placed AFTER the preamp, aimed at your modulation and time-based effects, such as chorus, flanger, phaser, delay and reverb. Does it make sense? Let me know. Looking forward to hear from you Cheers. 😊

@@GuitarNTabs Thanks for the reply bro. When I play in church I usually mic my amp, but since I'm going to start using the GT1, why don't I just go straight into the main mixer? Could it be because I didn't use a DI box?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
@@sammydodgers121 - Hey again, Samuel. Thanks for getting back in touch - I appreciate it. Aha, I see - the amplifier and pedal is a classic setup, and it can work very well. I've done that too, but I quickly changed to going straight to the mixer and PA - I liked that the most. Yeah, I would recommend using the GT-1 into the mixer/PA, for sure. You'll get much more out of it. Hmm, seems strange that it sounded horrible and flat.. but I'm sure there's a reason for that, surely one we can fix 😊 When using the GT-1 into the mixer/PA you should remember to set the Output Select on the GT-1 to Line/Phones. That will let the unit know what it's being plugged into. The Line/Phones Output Select will also enable the GT-1's onboard preamps and cabinets. Make sure the PREAMP-block is activated - the red light in the corner of the button would indicate so. A word of caution... Stay away from the Factory Presets.. they aren't worth it... The real gold is to be found, when making your own patches. Though, the Natural Clean, factory preset, sound decent. Next time you plug into the Mixer, try this: Activate the PREAMP-block. Then enter the PREAMP-block, and select the Clean Twin preamp. Change the default ORIGIN cabinet to 1x12 or 2x12". That will give you a nice and straight-forward clean sound. Add some reverb, compression and perhaps a chorus to that, and you're getting started. Add the T-Scream overdrive, from the OD/DS-block, and enjoy some nice bluesy/rock-ish punch. For a more overdriven tone, try the MS1959(I), with the cabinet set to 1x10 or 1x12". Add some reverb, delay and compression to that, and things start to brighten up. Well, a DI would probably be a good idea. Especially if you're far away from the mixer, having long cable runs. The DI will "restore" the balance of the signal, and convert it from an unbalanced signal, to a balanced one. Remember, the GT-1's output are unblanced jacks, but the DI will convert that to either one (mono) or two (stereo) XLR output, going to the mixer. I know this is a long post, but it's not just "plug&play" with a unit like this.. The essential set-up steps needs to be covered and completed. Let me know what you think, and if you need help with some patches, then let me know, and I'll happily create a couple for you, to try out with the mixer. Have an excellent day Cheers 😊

Why do you conect mono output from GT1 to Marshall Fx return?...this is better way?
@GuitarNTabs7 жыл бұрын
Hi Arturo! Happy new year and thanks for your comment! :-) When you plug into the FX Return on your amplifier, then you're going to bypass the preamp section (basically the EQ-knobs on your amp) on your amplifier. That will leave the power amp section (the speaker) on, and that will basically output your sound coming from the GT-1. So if you plug the left output (mono) on the GT-1 into the FX Return on your amplifier, then you'll be able to use the GT-1's onboard preamps, instead of using your own amplifier's EQ and channels. It's a good alternative when you do not have a decent pair of headphones or studio monitors. If you want to use the GT-1's onboard preamps, then you shouldn't plug the GT-1 straight into the input of your amplifier.. Doing that will basically mean that you have two preamps running (your own and the one in the GT-1) and that will cause variations in sound, and won't give good results. :-) So it all depends on how you want to use the GT-1, and with what you plan on using it. Hope this helps! Cheers! :-)

Hey there! Thank you for your comment and excellent question! I'll do my very best to reply 😊 Yes, I believe the GT-1 would be great for effects only, used along with an external amplifier, like the Orange you mention. I know players who does that, and have great results, so no doubt. On the other hand, regarding the GT-1's onboard preamps/cabinets, then I'll say they are excellent too! I mainly use the GT-1 through my studio monitors, or thorugh the PA, using the onboard effects and preamps/cabinets. The results I've been getting are superb - not a finger to put on it! In the end it really depends on what you need.. even though that seems like a straight-forward question.. If you play smaller venues and gigs, then all you need might simply be the GT-1, for both effects and preamps/cabinets. But, if you like the sound of an amp behind you, and just want to add the effects from the GT-1, then that's an option as well. The GT-1 has a good Orange preamp sim, and you can always customize the cabinet, if you want that. Let me know what you think - I'd be happy to help out further. Looking forward to your reply. Hello again and many thanks for your videos very useful. I have a lot of questions (sorry about that ). Why is it so important to use a footswitch pedal ? I have yet a Boss AC Adaptor for my Boss pedals so if i plug it into the GT1 will the footswitch need one more? My amp is a Combo Blackstar HT5 and i also own a Blackstar Distortion. Where and how can i connect this beautiful pedal. I saw that i have a return loop on my amp so i suppose i won't have to use the settings of my amp. But how do i reduce or increase the sound of my amp or the GT1 ? And my last question (i know i am boring) could you make a video with all the presets included in this GT1 playing with your guitar? I could do this myself but i just bought this GT1 one week ago and it is still in his box. So for very beginners like me it would be very helpful to hear you playing and showing all the presets with a guitar tone. Anyway many thanks for your tutorials.
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey there, Zenmaster 😊 Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it! When you say "footswitch", I assume you're talking about an external footswitch to add to the GT-1, right? Well, an external footswitch, like the Boss FS-6 or FS-7, will allow you to "spread out" the assigns to different footswitches. That's what I do for all of my patches. For example, on CTL1 I will activate an overdrive pedal. On CTL2 I have assigned a delay and on CTL3 I have a solo/lead boost. Depending on what footswitch you buy, it might need power on its own - you'll have to check that out. Remember, always use the correct power supply for the GT-1. Using a wrong one will damage the GT-1. If you use your GT-1 in front of your own amplifier, then simply connect the distortion pedal like this: Guitar --> Distortion pedal --> GT-1 --> Amplifier. It's as simple as that. If you wish to use the GT-1's preamps and cabinets, then you would have to connect the left output from the GT-1 to the FX Loop Return of your amplifier. Then your amplifier should have a dedicated FX Loop Level knob, where you can control the volume. To adjust the volume level, use the Master Output on the GT-1 and setup your amp's volume to be that way you want it. The volume pedal on the GT-1 will enable you to feed the volume in 😊 Hmm, why would you want me to record those factory presets? Honestly, they aren't worth much.. Some of them are alright, but the real gold is to be found, when you create your own patches - from scratch. I have a video about that - I'm gonna upload it later today. Make sure to subscribe, to stay tuned. At some point I'm going to record some sound samples of some of the patches I've made. I'll see what I can do, soon. Thanks for your questions - I'm happy to help out. Let me know if you have further questions. Have a nice day. Cheers.

I use my boss GT1 processor to build patches on my practice guitar amp (line 6 spider iv 15w), but whenever I use it on stage (sometimes on different amps like marshall JCM800, marshall DSL40C ,fender twins) and even without amps using DI units I find obvious changes in my guitar tone. Its difficult for me to carry around personal amps for far away gigs then how to eliminate that problem. Please help.
@GuitarNTabs3 жыл бұрын
Hello, Colossal Corp. Thanks for your comment and question, I appreciate it. Your issue is common, actually very common, and quite simple... Here's why: Patches created on one amp, either with or without the GT-1's preamp, etc., will always sound different on other equipment... That's why it's important to narrow down your gear, and find out exactly how you want to use the GT-1... Ask yourself this question: Do I want to use the GT-1 for its effects only, with my own amp(s)?? Or, do I want to use the GT-1 for both its effects and preamp/speaker models, going direct to the DI and then to PA/Mixer,FOH, etc.? Keeping your equipment consistent, and your way of creating patches, will improve your tones and not leave you with frustration because all of a sudden they sound different... Choosing the proper Output Select is important too, and if you decide to use the GT-1 for both its effects and preamp/speaker models, then make sure to enable the PREAMP-button. Disable the PREAMP-button if you decide to use its effects only, with your own amp. I hope this helps. Best regards.

Hey there, Jokerus Funny! :-) Thanks for your question! I can't remember if I had mine on, when I used it, but I think so. To engage FDD simplypress this switch in." So what I’d FX send used for?
@GuitarNTabs2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Peter. Thanks for your comment and question, I appreciate it. The FX Send is used along with the FX Return, when wanting to run a Multi FX Pedal in 4 Cable Method, where you can switch between using your own amp and the Multi FX preamp models. The FX Send and FX Return can also be used to connect regular stompbox pedals, if you have something like chorus, delay or reverb, for example. Doing this will ensure the proper placement for those types of pedals. Generally Modulation Effects (Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, etc.), Delay and Reverb are best placed after the preamp, whereas compression, overdrive and distortion are best placed before the preamp. I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you need anything else. Have a great day.

Is it better in the front or through the loop? Thanks
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey there, Chris :-) Thanks for your comment, and for watching my video - I appreciate it. Well, your question really depends on what you're looking for, and what your currently equipment allows you to do. Using the GT-1 in front of an amplifier will allow you to take full advantage of the GT-1's superb and excellent sounding effects. Effects like overdrive, distortion, compression, chorus, flanger, delay, reverb, etc. Your own amplifier is the center here, allowing you to use its clean and/or dirty channel. Using the GT-1 in the loop of an amplifier will allow you to use both the GT-1's effects, but also its cabinets and preamps. Basically this is how I use the GT-1. I just run it through my studio monitors or my band's PA/Mixer - but the procedure is basically the same :-) Remember to select the proper OUTPUT SELECT, depending on what approach you choose :-) I hope this makes sense - if not, then please let me know, and I'll do my best to help you out further. Thank you! So to confirm, when running the GT1 through the PA, guitar cable goes into the input on the gt1 and the L/Mono goes to the mixing board, is that accurate?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris! Thanks for the question. Basically, yes. I would point out a few things, though. 1. If your mixer offers multiple channels, then I would recommend using two channels for the GT-1. So you would take both the L and R outputs, and connect them to two individual channels on the mixer. That would give you the option of running the GT-1 in stereo, which is really great - especially for effects like delay, chorus, etc. 2. If your mixer is a long way away from you, when you play, then I would recommend getting either a Mono or Stereo DI Box, to make sure your signal is coming through clean and nicely maintained. Over long cable runs, using unbalanced cables, any effects/unit would loose some clarity and definition. I hope this makes sense - if not, then please let me know :-) Cheers, Chris.

One of the best things about the gt-1 is that the output select is global. Set it up for however you're going to use it most. For example, if you really like your amp's tone and just want to use it as effects, go front of amp or effects loop. But if you need to change it--say you play a gig where you have to go direct or decide to go into a smaller amp without a loop--it's just a few nob turns and ALL the voices adjust pre-amps, cab sims, etc for the new environment. It's my favorite thing about this unit from my last multi-fx pedal. I actually do the opposite; I normally have to gig direct to a PA, but the tones are still pretty close going into the rear of clean amp at home for practice or in the front of the small amp of I have at school.

Hello, I found out that on my Marshall VS65 unfortunately I could not skip the eq putting the cable in return. :-( Probably because I don't have a master volume. Can you imagine any other solution to avoid the ampli EQ in my case? I don't want to add too much EQ in case I cannot skip it. And I'm not sure which is the flat EQ with my ampli. Then, what about connecting the GT1 to a mixer without DI box? On a small stage, do you think I would have any power loss or bad sound? Thanks for all your great videos!!!

Hey again, Andrea :-) Nice to hear from you! Hmm, okay, that seems a little strange, I think.. Well, I can see, as you said, that the VS65 doesn't have a Master Volume-knob. But I believe it should be possible to still connect to the return, and then just select one of the Marshall's channels. Have you tried being on the clean channel, then use the clean channel's volume knob? Try and check if the amp's eq are still working then. You can easily connect the GT-1 to a mixer, but I would recommend a DI box, at any time! How far away from the mixer are you? And are there a snake/patchbay on the stage, where you plug your equipment in to? You're welcome - I look forward to hearing from you! :-) Regards.

Hello! Well, basically I'm not so experienced in mixing, so probably I was a bit confused. But anyway I tried via return on my ampli and it's working but with a lot of noises coming from my ampli when I increase the FX MIX knob. Probably it's because my ampli has some problems. That's why I would try directly to the mixer. The problem is that I won't know until the day of the concert which kind of stuff I will have. For sure the stage will be very small, so I'm not afraid to loose the signal without DI Box. I'll try and we will see :-) Thanks a lot anyway for your precise answers! Bye!

Hello Andrea :-) Okay, I see! Well yeah, there might be something wring with the amp. I'm not experiencing any noise, when I connect to the return of my amplifier. You mean what gear there will be on the stage? Monitors, PA, mixer, etc.? The size of the stage doesn't matter, it's the distance from the stage to the mixer that matters. If the mixer is far away, be you'll experience signal loss, to some degree, but if the mixer is close to the stage, then no problem :-) You're welcome - it's nice to be able to help! Cheers & Bye!

Which DI box should I used, active or passive when connect to mixer

If I don't use a DI box, are there any negatives for simply running a cable to the mixer?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question, Chris :-) A DI Box will take an unbalanced signal (the left and right 1/4 jack outputs from the GT-1/GT-100) and convert it to a balanced signal. An unbalanced signal will degrade over longer cable runs, so if you have a long way to the mixer, then the signal will degrade, and you'll be able to hear it.. On shorter cable runs there should basically be no problem, but for longer runs, I would highly recommend a DI box :-) What do you think? :-) I use the Radial ProD2, which is a Stereo DI Box, and it's works like a charm. @GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey there, zenmaster 😊 Thanks for the comment and question - I appreciate it. Well, since the GT-1 doesn't feature an FX Loop onboard, then we'll have to either place the pedals in front or after the GT-1. The overdrive pedal should be placed before the GT-1 - like this: Guitar --> Overdrive --> GT-1 Input --> GT-1 Output --> Amplifier, etc. The Noise Gate is another story... I would probably place it after the GT-1 - like this: Guitar --> Overdrive --> GT-1 Input --> GT-1 Output --> Noise Gate --> Amplifier, etc. That way the Noise Gate will take care of the noise coming out of the GT-1, including the overdrive. Remember, though.. The GT-1 has an onboard Noise Gate, if you didn't know. I've never had any noise issues with the GT-1 - it's all a simple matter of controlling the different gain stages, that you add to your patches. Effects like Overdrive, Distortion, Fuzz, etc. will add gain and volume. It's important to keep those nice and level - in order to achieve a consistent sound. Doing that will also increase the overall quality of the patches and the way they sound. I hope this helps. Let me know what you think 😊 Cheers.

If the amp has no effects loop, then there's only the option to connect to the input of the amplifier :-) I hope this helps! If not, then let me know, please. Thanks - cheers :-)

Hi, what if I'm connected to the back end of the amp (FX return), which output selection do i choose?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
For a combo amp (Fender/Marshall style amplifier) the use the Combo Return output setting. If you are connected to the fx return of a stack type amp - an amp where speaker and head is seperated, then select Stack Return :-) I hope this helps. Cheers.

Ah... so it's either a choice of the FS7 or an EXP pedal, not both?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly.. That's the way of the GT-1.. You can't have both, only one of them.. Of course you could always connect a wah in front of the GT-1, if you needed that, and keep the onboard EXP/VOL on the GT-1 for volume, etc. :-) Hope this helps. Cheers.

On your amp there should be a volume knob for the FX Loop - that will act as your master/main volume. Try that, and see if it helps! Let me know, Seth! I'm sure we can make this work! Cheers, mate!

You can do that, yes, but a DAW isn't needed, because the GT-1 has its own USB port, and that way it acts like an Audio Interface.

Thank you so much for all your informative videos on the GT-1, I was just about to pull the trigger on the Zoom G3XN until I started viewing your videos,I am definitely liking the Boss over the Zoom now and going to purchase one , Boss should be giving you a small percent profit for sales on your channel 😉, 2 questions please, what can the additional FS7 foot switch control and why would we require one, and you mentioned early on in the video if we connect via our amp we could not use the preamps in the effects pedal ,so we would basically be losing out on some of the GT-1 features , why is that? Regards, Tony
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey Tony! :-) Thanks for your comment - I appreciate it. I'm really glad that you've found my videos informative and helpful - my pleasure! :-) Amazing, it's so nice to know that my content can make you go for the Boss GT-1! I would choose the GT-1 over anything, basically! It's just that great, that good! :-) Haha, yeah, that would indeed be nice, if they did... Sadly I don't think they know of my content and the hours I put into helping out Boss pedal users.. ;-) Oh well, I gladly do it anyway! Excellent questions, Tony! 1. The FS-7, or FS-6 for that matter, can control any parameter/effect onboard the GT-1. As you might know, or have noticed, you only have one CTL footswitch onboard the GT-1 - the CTL1 footswitch. That only allows you to assign and control effects and parameters to that footswitch, but! If you add the extra footswitch, then you will be able to take advantage of the extra CTL2 and CTL3 - basically giving you more assign options. Remember, the GT-1 has a total of 6 assigns, per patch, and having the extra footswitch will allow you to lay out those 6 assigns on the different footswitches :-) I hope this answers your question - if not, then let me know :-) 2. Well, first of all, it depends on how you want to use the GT-1. Do you want to use the GT-1 for effects only, with your own amplifier? If so, then you have your own amplifier doing and making all the preamp/amplifier sounds - then you don't need the GT-1's onboard preamps. If you instead wish to use the GT-1 for both effects and preamps, then you would have to connect the GT-1's left output to the effects loop return on your own amplifier. Connecting it that way will bypass the preamp section on your own amp, and only use the speaker (power amp section) to output the sound from the GT-1 and its effects and preamps. If you use the GT-1's onboard preamps along with your own amplifier, then you would basically have two amplifiers running at the same time, and that would cause some inconsistancies in the sound and the creations of your patches. So, to recap: If you want to use the GT-1 for effects only, then connect it to the input on your amplifier - like you normally would with any guitar pedal. Like this: Guitar --> GT-1 Input --> GT-1 Output --> Amp Input. If you want to use the GT-1 for both effects and preamps, then connect it to your amp's effects loop return. Like this: Guitar --> GT-1 Input --> GT-1 Output --> Amp's Effects Loop Return. Just remember, when using the Effects Loop Return, that most of your EQ and channel knobs on your amplifier will not work - since we've bypassed the preamp section, but the master volume, or effects loop volume should work - since we're connected to the Effects Loop Return. Sorry, I know this is a lot of information, but understanding this will let you get the best out of your GT-1. Let me know how you plan on using it, Tony! Have a great day - Cheers :-)

GuitarNTabs Totally understand ,I was hoping to use the GT-1 for both the effects and preamps, unfortunately I just have a small Bugera V5 and do not have an effects loop return, just have the input in front of the amp and 1/4 jack output for headphones behind the amp,that’s a bummer, so basically I only have the option of using the input in front of the amp and losing out on the preamps,so what ever effects pedal I choose I will not be able tu use the preamps features because of the amp I have, would you still recommend this pedal if only using it for effects ,as for the FS-7 additional foot switch , that would make a great addition to an already perfect pedal for sure, thank you so much for your quick and detailed reply. Cheers mate 👍✌️🤘

I see - but you could also buy a decent pair of studio monitors, and then use the GT-1 for effects and preamps - that is a great way to do it! I do that at home - it's perfect! I would still recommend the GT-1 for its effects, that's for sure! All the way! But try out some studio monitors, or simply use a decent pair of headphones, connected to the GT-1, then you can use the Preamps and effects as well! :-) You are very welcome, Tony! Let me know if you have further questions! Have a great one! Cheers :-)

GuitarNTabs Unfortunately my budget ( AKA ) wife lol wouldn’t allow me getting some good quality studio monitors but seeing I use headphones most of the time I can tryout all the preamps then and use only the effects when connecting in front of my amp , thanks mate for all your help, really appreciate it. Dear what about USB connect to laptop which output select should I choose and what happen to sound if I choose J's 120 and connect USB to laptop then laptop to speakers?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey there. When connecting the GT-1 to a laptop, you should select the LINE/PHONES setting, because when connecting to a laptop you'll use the GT-'s onboard preamps and cabinets. Without those your sound and patches would sound awful.. :-) If you select the JC-120 setting, when connecting to a laptop, then you might experience some variations in sound, and your patches might not sound the way you want them to... You should always select the proper output, depending on the equipment you hook the GT-1 up to. I hope this helps. If you hace further question, then let me know. Cheers.

if you will connect your gt-1 to laptop would you use USB or Left/Mono and right with TRS 1/8 to 1/4 stereo to laptop then to speakers?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
When you connect to things like monitors/speakers, headphones and laptops then you should use the LINE/PHONES. Simply because you will need a preamp and a cabinet to produce an process the sound. That is also why you should remember to activate the preamp and cabinet within the GT-1 - in order to get the best result. On the GT-1 you can simply check if the red led is on, then the preamp is activated. You should use the cab and preamp sims when you connect to anything other than a real amplifier.. That is what the LINE/PHONES setting is for.. Do you follow? I would never use a trs 1/8 to 1/4 to laptop and speakers... Most laptops can't handle that.. That's mainly why the GT-1 features a USB-port. What sound program are you using, when you use your laptop and GT-1 USB? Most times you will also need to change a few settings in your sound program.. It's not all just plug and play - you will have to take a look at the different input and output levels :-)

Hi, You simply plug your headphones into the "Phones" socket. Then make sure to set the GT-1's Output Select to Line/Phones, and enable the GT-1's PREAMP section. That should do it. I hope this helps. Cheers.

How about a demo of a 4 Cable Method on the Boss GT 1?

The GT-10 is great, and it has some preamps that the GT-1 doesn't have - like the BG Rhythm, for example. The GT-1 is great, the size is perfect and effects and amps are superb! I went with the GT-1, because of its size, and really loved the effects and amps after playing with it! The GT-10 is bigger, but still really good! I wouldn't sell eother of them! It all really depends on what you need! Do you own the GT-1, or?? Cheers, mate!

GuitarNTabs I probably buy a Boss GT 1 next 2 weeks. You're right its very handy and you can even put it inside your Back Pack. I was watching a Video of Boss GT 1 VS Zoom 3gnx and still I go for the Boss coz sounds more realistic to me. Your thoughts about the Zoom 3gnx?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Cool, I'm sure you're going to love the GT-1! :-) Let me know if you need any help! Yeah, the GT-1 easily fits into a back pack, or something similar to that. It even fits inside most gig bags! Well, this is actually a question I get asked often.. Whether the 3GNX is better than the GT-1, or vice versa. To me the GT-1 is the obvious choice, no doubt. Firstly because of its effects and preamps, but also because of its assigns, where you can control any parameter or effect. You can assign more than one effect/parameter to one footswitch, or several others, if you wish to! That right there is the most important thing for me! :-) The Zoom 3GNX doesn't offer that.. It's very limited in that way.. :-) Cheers, mate!

Hi, congrats on the video. Why do You use stereo Jack cable to connect the A&B footswitch? Wouldn't a simple Jack cable work too?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey there. Thanks for watching, and thanks for your question. With the TRS (Stereo cable) I can control the FS-7 using one cable, instead of using the Y-cable... The stereo cable will enable both footswitches on the FS-7. A regular jack wouldn't work properly, since it would only activate one of the footswitches on the FS-7/FS-6. You would either need a Y-cable or a stereo cable 😊 Let me know if you need anything else. Have a nice day Cheers.

Great video. Thanks for sharing with us the three most common ways to hook up the GT-1. Here's a scenario I'm trying to figure out and wanted to know what you'd do. I have the Boss RC-5 looper pedal that I want to connect to the GT-1. Neither the GT-1 nor RC-5 are connected to an amplifier. Instead I have headphones plugged into the GT-1's headphone output jack so that I can hear sounds in stereo and not mono. I want to use the RC-5 to capture and playback loops created using sound effects from the GT-1. I want to listen to the recorded loops and play guitar with those loops, while listening to everything using the headphones so that I can listen to everything in stereo. Listening in stereo is important. One thing I tried was: - guitar to GT-1's input jack, cable from GT-1 mono line-out to RC-5 input A (mono), then cable from RC-5 ouput A (mono) to GT-1 auxiliary input jack. This caused a feedback loop. I'm thinking the only alternative is: - guitar to GT-1's input jack, cables from the the GT-1's Left and Right line-out to the RC-5's input A and B, then on the RC-5's output A and B jacks use a Y-adapter to merge the two outputs into a single female stereo connector, then connect the headphone's male stereo headphone connector to the Y-adapter's female connector. I've ordered the appropriate cables and adapters to test this scenario. Waiting for the items to arrive.
@motorbikeray3 жыл бұрын
Update: Something I tried that does everything I want, except record loops using the GT-1's effects is: - guitar to RC-5's Input A, then RC-5's Output A to GT-1's input jack, then GT'1's headphone jack to headphone.
