Boss GT100 Multi Effects Demo & 4 Cable Method

Today me and the Bibster are going to take you through a demo of some of the features of the Boss GT100 Multi Effects unit. This great little stomp replacement device has it all going on but a lot of you guys feel that it has amps and things that are not needed when you have a killer amp tone, so this is when we hook up the 4 cable method and show you how to augment your already awesome tones with a topping of wonderful!!.

Ok. Think I'm sold on this one. I was never, NEVER a fan of Boss. But now that I learned it control the amp channels and have seen that it's easier to use AND listened to the sound quality...It's undeniable. Sorry, Line 6 If only the M13 could control the amp channels...

I think newer Line6 units, like Helix or the new HX Effects can also control the amp channels.

Hi Paul does the 4 cable method work on a 3 channel amp, and if so how do you access the crunch and overdrive channels i can get the clean sound on my amp but not the dirty ones, any idea ?

You can plug a cable from the GT-100 into the footswitch input on your amp, so you can use the GT-100 to switch channels.

ive tried that but my amp is a boutique amp with 3 channels dont think its having it sadly think this gt only works on 2 channels shame my amp has such nice tone saying that i must add the tones in the gt are pretty dame good but would have been nice to have my amp tones as well

What amp you got? the amp control is for 2 channels only. Guess you amp doesn't have Midi?

I can't make the CTL pedal work with amp switiching, neither with patches. In the amp the channel switches, but soundwise there's no change (amp is still in clean mode, regardless of the light indicating the distortion channel). Any thoughts? I have a blackstar ht 50 using the 4 cable method

Hey Paul great video! Is there a way to go from your natural tube distorted sound, then directly to a clean with delay/ other effects with one pedal click? I have been trying to work this with my Marshall JVM 210h. Thanks!

How do you set it up in 4cm so that the button 1 is your amps drive? How do you get it this way? I tried 4cm and the button 1 was a preset patch, i want button 1 to be my amps drive so i can add some OD and gate to it. Please help.

Turn the patches preamp off and assign the amp control to the patch.

at 9:31 sound comes from just a stompbox od of gt 100 or is the drive of an amp emulation ?

You forgot to indicate to activate the S/R in the GT-100 and deactivate the internal preamps of the BOSS box. The settings of the S/R volumes would be interresting to have.

How does this work as purely a Multi-fx unit? I want to go straight into an fx loop, and have 2-3 banks of just 4 effects each. I also want to use the CTRL to switch amp channels.

I have a Digitech RP1000 and use the 4 cable method. I love the sound, but I do not like the fact that I need a separate pedal to change the amp channel. I think you can control the amp channel with this unit. Can you add the amp channel setting as a parameter of the presets so i would only need to push one button to change from a amp clean channel with some chorus and other effects to a lead amp channel with some delay and compressor? Yes, you just save the patch with the switch status (amp cntl) it however will only change a 2 channel amp. Hope this helps mate.

Hi Paul; Thanks for the video. I have a question though. If I wanted to by pass the GT100 all together and use my clean channel on my Blackstar HT Club 40 Combo, how would I accomplish this? I'm using the four cable method you described in your video. To I have to create a "clean patch" and use that? I also have a Blackstar foot switch plugged into the amp. It has channel and reverb buttons on it. Any ideas? Phil

If your running 4 cable with no amp block in the patch (or bypassed) you just select the clean channel on your amp mate.

Assuming I just took this unit out of the box, chose combo return as my output all I have to do is push the clean channel button on my amp and that's it? Well that's easy! Assuming this is correct, would it also be safe to assume that the GT100 is using OD channel of my amp? Just push the OD voice button and there's my GT100 with all its effects at my disposal?

It seems like you enjoy your Hd500 w/ the DT-25 over the GT100. I have heard a lot of ppl say the GT100 is better at being an effects pedal board with a tube amp over the HD500 but honestly with the HD500x(i use this) and the DT-25 amp head/combo i think line6 wins overall. what are your thoughts Paul?

I had line 6 XT live but now have the GT-100 , the main reason for swapping is that you can use it in the 4 cable method . You cant with the line 6 .

vinny keenan ya you can use the 4 cable method with the HD500x, i tried it and it sounds good. I did however recently switch to analog pedals with a Bogner New Yorker amp and ill never look back lol. but I will say digital modeling has gone a long way though. I just find that there is nothing like the real thing when you are playing professionally,

Paul Glover Ya i would definitely like to see it. And i love my Hd500x, it made playing onstage a lot easier and cheaper. To simulate an HD500x onstage cost thousands. I still rehearse with it, i just did last night in fact and it sounded great and all i had to do was put it in my backpack lol. Makes it a lot easier to travel, but ya with that said i do slightly prefer analog pedals, but that shouldn't take away how awesome this Pod is. Cheers!

Paully Waully It always amazes me how everyone finds their own perfect match in all different types of amps and pedals . I missed the Hd series of Line 6 and used to use my trusty old XT live floorboard through the return of pretty much any amp in the rehearsal studio . My live rig always had a few stomps to but I tried out the GT-100 and loved it . I use it live , with the four cable method along with my Marshall JVM head , which I love . All sounds good and I have all those boss FX all in one box . Great comments guys ......keep on spanking your planks : )

yeah mate one is a fernandez sustainer then I wanted my EVO sound back, the closest thing was the Semour Duncan hot rails so the sustainer just sustains and my knee pickup sound is coming from the SD. hope that makes sense lol
