The hiss is due to the channel volume being set up full. Turn master up full and run channel volume low...sounds bigger, fuller, punchier...and no hiss!!

Thanks for the Video. I am a novice/bedroom guitar practitioner. I just went to our local guitar store and tried this amp out along with the Fender Mustang GTX 50. I really liked the Katana, easier to use, less expensive. I also tried out a few other Fender Tube/Valve amps..they were great..but also cost 5 to 10 times more. And I think the Katana had the best sound at low volumes, the other more expensive amps would blow the windows out of my house if I turned them up enough to get any kind of quality tone.

I replaced the two-pins power cable from the package with a PC cable with three pins - additional one for ground, and it did a lot good for the noise. I actually didn't have problem with the crunch channel, but with an acoustic pickup I was using. The new cable solved the problem completely.

Boss Katana 50 is the ultimate value amp. You can pay more and get more (valve amps) but you can't pay less and get more than the Katana offers. A person today with no gear and little money could get a Harley Benton for $150 and a Katana for $250 and have a playable/gig able rig for $400. That was unimaginable when I started playing.

So true. When I stated playing in the mid 1990’s when I was kid it was not like it was today. No where near the variety of pedals and pedal brands or guitar and amp brands to choose from. If I were able to buy a Katana and use the Boss Tone Lab in conjunction with the amp I would of been the happiest kid alive and probably would of quit playing hockey to play guitar all day and night. It’s a great, no amazing! Time to be alive if you are a guitar player. Young kids just starting out have it made. Having KZbin as a way to learn and research all the best and newest gear is invaluable.

The 100 watt has a cab out. I think you'll like the tone of the 35 or 60 watt Orange even better. Closest thing I've played to a tube amp. I've played tube amps since the late 70s, but solid state / analogue has come so far as well as modelling. We live in a golden age of gear..

I must say that for whom that's looking for direction in buying amps for using at home. For every video you watch more confused you get. I like your videos Elmo and it is refreshing to hear someone that looks on this hype with amps like Yamaha THR, Spark and Boss Katana with more critical eyes. There as so many videos with people singing prays over this amps. And in many it doesn't sound great. That's why I like your videos because even though it is big brands the youtuber has a responsible to be critical and give a objective review on the product.

I'm happy with my version 1 Katana 100. I plan to buy the version 2 and run a stereo set up. For me I go lighter on the amp gain on all the different voices. It seems to do better for me that way. I use my pedals to boost the overdrive and I really like the sounds I'm getting. Overall, the Katana is a great amp and does what it does very well. For the money it's hard to beat. The fact that they included a way in version 2 for the Katana to act as a clean slate for modelers was a nice touch.

Love your content! And you're an inspiring player! Kudos! The Roland Cube sounds incredible: but I don't think it comes with emulation, which is essential on headphones for those of us with wives and kids or roommates. The Katana 50 here sounds lackluster in comparison to all the 100 1x12's that I've seen in other demos. The 100-watt is killer, you can get legit tones in everything from R&B to 80's Rock, Punk, Metal, Psychedelic, Acoustic and Cleans. The Katana speaker only falls short of the expensive Celestians ever so slightly in high gain modes. I'm not a Katana fan-boy, but there is much to consider in finding the right amp for the gig, even if it's playing at home lol. Thanks, man, keep up the good work!

Marshall went down that road with Code 25/50 and I had a Code 50 and I hated it so much I sold it for peanuts after a few months of ownership :( Bluetooth my ass Marshall amps .. I will say Boss Katana web page is so much easier to engage with amp after watching many vids on here , So I may try this amp soon. Good video 👍

Couldn't click fast enough since I'm looking for another gigging amp or backup possibly. I have the 50 watt first version. I love it, except the app crap, but I don't use it since I get 4 good presets just using the upgraded version. Had to use PC to upgrade, but worth it for two extra channels. I don't get the hiss. Really. On mine. Are you sure it's not your pickups? Just saying. 😉 You should consider reviewing the Orange Crush 35 watt 1 x 10. It's killer. Even better is the 60 watt 1 x 12 or 2 x 12, and or the head which is a 120 watts. The 60 watt or 120 head are called the pro. The best thing about them is they are simple, and the overdrive channel is to die for. Really. It's quite good and I bet you would love it. Even the 35 watt sounds great. Their speaker is killer. The 35 watt is only 235 bucks here in the States.

Hi Elmo, and thank you for your great review on the amp; great because I always get a laugh at your comments and lip and for the joy of listening your great playing :-D . I am actually thinking of getting a Katana, since I've tried out the first version of it, and decided then to go for a Marshall AS 80R- amp for the acoustic guitar. It is a nice, natural sounding amp, but as to my taste a bit outdated already (manufactured 2009 -2010). It has a spring reverb and a chorus with 4 parameters to play with. What kinda rubbed in the back of my head, was that the Katana MK 1 Had a surprisingly nice sound for the acoustic guitar, and I liked the lush-sounding effects it came with. And, another point would be that on the gigs I go, I don't have to carry around 2 amps; this could handle the acoustic quite nicely, and the electric guitar acceptably ok. Since I'm not the lead player at our present system, this would be quite okay. If I was to play lead, I'd definitely go for a valve amp. Keep on doin' the good work!

@@MrPolevaulter Thank you. Today Thomann even has a Tube15 B-stock so I will save 30 euros. I will buy it today together with a Harley Benton TE-62 like the red one you reviewed. Do you know if the blond or the black fretboard is best for Country and old School Rock n Roll? It seems the Country pickers mostly use the blond maple fretboard.

I sent mine back. I didn't like it. If you like a lot of bells & whistles, you will probably like it. But I found it very limited for just simple, clean tone. The acoustic channel was decent but the clean channel was very thin and trebley. Frankly, I think my Fender Champ 40 or Orange 35RT had much fuller, warmer clean tone. Not my cup of tea.

If you want to feel bad about your purchase of any entry level amp watch Elmo. When 9 out of 10 people say the digital amps feel great today and it's the best age to start playing on a budget this guy makes you feel like all amps below 300 feel like poop, except for Harley benton tube 15 cause it's a tube or he'll recommend you something that is no longer made. Not helpful at all.

After gigging both the MK1 Katana 50 and 100s , I have never enjoyed the drive channels from any of these amps. The amount of treble and presence that these things spit out is far too much for me ; coupled with the fact that you can't adjust all the parameters live (E.G Presence, Pedal Drive and Pedal Level settings), I can't recommend these for regular professional stage use - only if you want a clean platform for you pedal-board.

I have the 100 watt head and I will definitely say that pairing it with a "warmer" speaker makes a huge difference. I thought I had heard that the combos came with a good speaker pairing but I could be wrong. Also I found I liked the Brown channel with low gain better than I liked the "Crunch" channel on higher drive. Kind of some weird oddities but in the end I found 4 sounds I really love. Have you tried any of the sneaky amps yet? The bassman and boogie ones are pretty awesome!

Clean is very acceptable but once on crunch it suffers from the exact same thing my Line 6 Spider IV 75 watt does - it gets close to the sound I want (based on my valve amp) but not quite. This makes it extremely annoying - says more about me than the amp - and leaves me wanting to give it a good kick.
