And you gonna hate it unless you wanna tweak sounds instead of playing music. More is worse. I have years of experience. The more shit they put inside your pedal board unit the more fancy touch screen menus the less music you are going to play. Menus are shit, and it dont matter how smart they make them. Menus suck. Imagin going to have to go through menus during live gig to turn one fucking virtual knob when on ME-80 you just have those knobs and no bullshit screen. ME-90 + Tone-X and you have the best pedal board in the world. Need balanced out, then get two behringer ULTRA-DI or ULTRA-G at a low price and thats the unit of every serious guitarist. Simplicity instead of useless BS.

If we are to be very honest about "No Menu Diving" we must acknowledge that there might still be a little bit of dealing with adjusting global and other settings by using 'Menu' codes as far as a 'Menu' is concerned here but, for such a wonderfully thoughtful, versatile and sophisticated unit as this, that is to be expected. I guess with this it's more like just setting up your digital "G-Shock" wrist watch than prepping a jet. It of course also let's you tweak differing parameters via tactile knob controls AT THE SAME TIME with as many hands and even toes as you have available which, in fact, may actually be the SMARTER way of doing things for a reasonably sized effects chain such as this, no? I think so. Way to go Boss!

The common refrain was, "modernise the sounds but keep the layout and interface basically the same."......I honestly think a slightly more sophisticated screen would not have killed them, but it is nice to see a Company like BOSS actually listen to their customer's and give them what they want. @rodolphep0nthus555 Жыл бұрын
Hi. Just purchased the unit. Great piece of kit. Very impressed so far But I 've got an odd thing going on. I plug it directly in my amp (all tube Gibson GA 8T clone, PtP, very high quality clean sound). Logically, I switch the input out on "Guitar amp".. The distortions, amp simulations and factory high gain stuff, sound like complete crap on this setting. Just as if I had chosen the "line out" setting.. Fizzy, harsh, hifi OD style massacre..All the horrible terrible sounds of a 90's transistor 100 bucks amp 🤯😂 If I switch to "line out", everything sounds quite good .. What's going on, am I missing something? I don't understand why the output setting reacts just the opposite way as it should? I gotta read the manual, but this is very akward. Otherwise this thing is quite stellar, delays, modulation, octavers, pitch shifter, Tera Echo.. Sound damn good But what about the output setting? Or is there some kind of setting I'm missing (IR thing settled out of factory that is making a mess on the output?) And I must add the output level is gigantic (this with the general output level at noon) I mean just over the top loud.. I've gotta put the volume of my amp much lower than normally. Or the the output volume of the ME90 at 9 o'clock to get unity volume with the amp.. Pretty sure something quirky is going here.. If someone could chime in..
@LeonTodd Жыл бұрын
Personally I'd go into the Boss Tone Studio and disable the preamps in this when running into a clean amp.
@rodolphep0nthus555 Жыл бұрын
@@LeonTodd thanks very much I've read the manual since. When going in the global settings, there are 12 options for the output. Like : nbr 1 is a when plugging in a 2x12 Combo, nbr 2 is a plugging in a 1 x 12 combo.. Etc.. There are even option for plugging in the Katana, or a transistor amp (you can find all this in the parameter manual) I'm going to experiment the settings. For now, there is no doubt the "line out" setting switch of the output is clearly the one that sounds correct on a clean neutral tube amp. It's a bit strange but maybe I've found the answer with the parameter settings to explore The Univibe sounds glorious for a digital emulation, and the octave and pitch shifting algorithms track crazy good with my Stratocaster, even micro bends and playing tricks (hammer ons, slides, pull offs and all that stuff..) I find this unit very very good on the pure effects side (modulations, delays octaves and pitch stuff) , and I've had boutique crowded pedals boards.. With meticulous programming you can go where you want I've ordered a Nobels Odr1 Bc to put in the effects loop to bring some analog gain in the picture. The factory setting for the effects loop is set to ideally put a OD/Distortion pedal. There is a second setting for FX pedals. I've also found you can set the knobs to "catch" the change at the patch setting for smooth operation. Otherwise it'll instantly change the parameter where the knob is, which can be quite brutal..
@LeonTodd Жыл бұрын
@@rodolphep0nthus555 honestly those output settings have always seemed super dumb to me but BOSS do it on all their units. Just give me a unity gain or line level option and be done.

@@LeonTodd Yeah I tried the 12 outputs, some are plain horrid. The one that seems to suit a 1X12 combo amp is the second setting Nbr2. Just what it's meant to be obviously So there is no way to just have pure output without any cab stuff? Because, I've made a patch (really nice iteration of Gilmour's sound on Shine on you Crazy Diamond, damn close).. But the problem is all the factory patches are like if you would from 2 (my patch) to 10 (every other factory and user patchs).. It's just ridiculous

As someone unsure of what to do with an old TC g system, and whether to embrace individual pedals again or continue a quest for a ‘do all’ floor processor, this is a great option. Often I think back to Drew Goddard’s tones on Themata - such ripping high gain with clarity and colour - boss floor processor! Anyways cheers & all the best!

For the price it seems fantastique and very pratical for the old guys like me.

Love Boss multi units! I have the GT10 and GT10B, both are excellent quality. My buddy just got a ME80 and it sounds great with the preamp off and the metal distortion cranked instead into an fx return. Also recorded the ME80 with a Joyo cab box and it sounded really good! Would Love to get this new ME90! 🔥🔥🔥

Do you need multiple cables to use the pedal to it's full? right now i only have input from the guitar, and output into my amp, but i cannot control reverb, delay or mod in manual mode. And the memoery mode is jsut confusing, so i'd really like to skip using that at this time. ;)

If it had 5 minute looper length it would be perfect.

I used to have the grandaddy ME50 years ago. I'm definitely going to get one of these. It's exactly what I'm looking for. My only question is - are the amps driven by modelling that is the same tech as the Katana? I was disappointed in the tone of the Katana models as far as the dynamic range it was able to put out when compared to a tube amp. I found katana sounded overly compressed and narrow. I'm mainly going to use it for effects so it's not a deal breaker.
@alexhiggin Жыл бұрын
I believe it uses what they call AIRD modelling, used in the GT-1000 and GX-100. If I recall correctly the katanas are based around the COSM models from the older GT-100.

I definitely did.

You ever try the SNEAKY AMPS on the Katana ? They're the amp models from the COSM engine and there are some pretty good base pre-amp tones there that might work better for you than the on-board ACOUSTIC, CLEAN, CRUNCH, LEAD, BROWN and their variations. They still need work, but I've found a few that work for me 👍

With regard to the amp modelling, most of the settings seem to be overdriven or distortion 15:36 . Can I use them clean but then use the effects to drive or distort instead or just use clean?

Is the "T-Wah" really an autowah? is there an actual Autowah and or Envelope Filter?
@kimmoparonen1737 Жыл бұрын
This is brilliant...you can turn knobs instead of "menus"...set reverb level 0-100...42% or maybe 51%....just more or less! Sounds good!😀

Aside from form factor, are the tones all equivalent to the GX/GT series for amps AND fx?

Nice!! For the price point and great sound, this thing is killer! A great practice or grab-and-Go unit that can easily be gigged. 🤘🤘

Do this has the same audio interface quality to record, as the gx-100 and the gt-1000?

I saw a pantera tribute band in 2001 using one of this I think. I was surprised. I guess the juggernaut was ideal for this aplicattion

I thought it was from the 90's..there was one with very similar look. It looked and sounded like a retro review you usually do.
