Now it all makes sense. Always wondered why I prefer BOOSTING mids on a Metal Zone and always disliked scooping them. And The Great MT-2 Secret is: a gap around 2.5 kHz that occurs between mid- and high gyrators. Whenever you cut any mids on the pedal you either leave that gap or making it even bigger. But the presence of an electric guitar lies right between 1 and 3 kHz. Scoop that and you are left with some highs and lows, deprived of any frequencies that can cut through the mix. Scoop it and MT-2 is immediately thin sounding. And that`s most people do trying to compensate audible nasal sound caused by huge pre-drive mid-boost getting that familiar "iconic" jar-of-bees sound.

When all was at 12 I prefered the waza, because it sounded fuller. Then you boosted mids on both and they equaled out more. Then after that I primarily prefered the setting on the regular

Vielen Dank for this video! Taking parts tolerances into account one can say that MT-2w stock and MT-2 are the same. So, having stock MT-2 is like having half of Waza Craft. What a comfort.

Good video. I own, the two pedals and the behringer ultra metal. The Waza sounds less noisy to my ears so it allows me more extreme settings without extra noise. The mt-2s as a boost gives an incredible thickness to the sound so, i love it. As a preamp, it is also excellent but I never use the custom mode because the pedal loses its 90’s black-death sound. I hate metal since 2000😉

Some really cool sounds when you rolled off the highs on both units!

So essentially they seem pretty much the same. The main difference is that custom switch which seems to just add a custom EQ filter, which you were able to get pretty close to the sound of on the original. The old model is currently 120 while the new model is 175. I think I'll just save the extra 50 bucks lol. Thanks for the video.

Do you use the "Normal" MT2 in the front of the amp or through the loop?
@DomeNightbearer Жыл бұрын
I only use it in front, when I have a dorty channel and the mt2 acts as a boost. Otherwise always fx-Return.

Interesting comparison. I have the Waza and I love it. I use the custom mode, but I suppose I could dial in the standard mode to my liking. The custom mode just gets me closer to what I want to hear with less tweaking. This has to be the most misunderstood pedal in the world. I like metal, but I don’t play metal. I just want a great high gain sound, and MT-2w is just perfect IMO. You just have to learn how to dial it in.

I don’t play metal either, but I love the custom mode on the MT-2w. Just a great high gain sound. Like you said, you have to take the time to learn how to dial it in. Amazing pedal.

Nice comparison. It's always tricky to expect a same-same sound, even with 2 identical pedals as you always ahev to account for 10-20% parts tolerances.
@DomeNightbearer3 жыл бұрын
10 - 20%??? Really? I thought about up to 5%... huh...
@AIBCustomFx3 жыл бұрын
@@DomeNightbearer 5% in the best case scenario for expensive capacitors. 10% is a modern standard, 20% for some . Resistors are more accurate and account for 1%. but still, 1% of 1M is a lot while 1% for 1k is rather small. Even pots have tolerances. some rated at 500k (for example) could really be 470k etc...the variables are almost endless (That's why the whole MIJ/MIT HM2 debate is kinda funny. The variables between two MIJ are already equal to MIJ vs MIT...)

So, which one is your favorite?
@MarcAndreLevesque2 жыл бұрын
So, MT-2w in standard mode has lower noise floor and a smoother high end than the MT-2, but the MT-2w has lost some edge for a better sound accross the spectrum and a lot less beezz that made the MT-2 so famous in terms of bad tones, so it's a lot easier to get a bad tone out of the MT-2 but both pedal can sound very good when you take the time to dial them. The custom mode is basically another pedal than sounds killer in its own right but cannot be compared to the original, it's just different and more akin to a Friedman OD in a lot of ways.

Most dislike this pedal due to its parametric eq which requires a learning curve and should opt for a more straightforward and simplistic pedal with 2-3 control nobs.. Depending on what type of gain youre looking for and how you're running this pedal to the amp will yield different results.. As I stated there are various ways of running and using this pedals. One should stould start with the suggested manual settings, tweak pedal/amp setting and try placing it either in front of the amp as well as the effects loop.. Imho the Mt-2 is an extremely versatile pedal that can cover a wide variety of from extreme metal distortion, to overdrive. Other variables from amp. Pickups, etc are also variables. Many do not even use a standard eq pedall (or known of how to properly use one), therefore such a pedal may not be your best option, hence why the Metal Zone might not be the best option for most guitatists and why many hate this pedal!..
