Hello, I really appreciate your detailed videos on the MS-3 which give deep insights missed by the manuals. Maybe it would be nice to have another short video just on the subject of assigning an effect and cross-assigning to Curnum to turn off one effect and turn on another one. It is a very difficult subject and hard to understand, I had to look through all the comments and finally found the solution within your answer to a request. Thanks in advance! Helmut

I love your videos on the MS3! Just got it recently and i wonder if its possible to stack multiple delays with the assign buttons ? i was thinking of Allan's Holdsworth preset which you can find on the Yamaha UD stomp.

Such a great walkthrough, thank you. As I commented earlier, just bought the MS-3 and I'm preparing for a short tour, very simple setup, only a few patches for several different grooves. I'm an acoustic player so this is heaven.. This part with the manual mode within a patch is an eye opener, and the possibility for a second click bringing in loads of stuff, Assign 1-4 settings etc, amazing. My only concern is where to save the new patches, I'll have to replace the factory ones which are quite cool many of them. There's an option of still keeping the originals, will have to look into it more. Thanks very much! Btw, powering the MS-3, I'm using a Truetone CS-6 and it's 200mA output. Although the MS-3 states it needs some 280mA to run, the Truetone puts out more than just 200 there. It can "boost" it a little as long as the total overall need aren higher than what's projected (1600mA I believe)

Hi Dragan, thanks for your kind words on the vide, glad you enjoyed it. One thing you could do is just back the patches up to your computer via the USB output and the Boss Editor. They you'd still have them should you want them in the future. Also important to back your own patches up in case something goes wrong at any point. (or you change them too many times and want to get back to the original!). Thanks for the heads up on that, yes you can run the MS-3 that way, I have had information from TrueTone and as you say, as long as you don't exceed 1600ma you can run what you like from each of the outputs! What a great power supply! Good luck with the tour! All the best, Neil

Neil Spencer Bruce I've used the BOSS editor right from the beginning since it's so much easier than using the little screen. I acquainted myself with the MS-3 knobs and I understand how it works, but the software makes it very fast to edit and customise. I've just finished the tour and everything worked flawlessly. Never had a quiter board and it was a pleasure hitting those patches. Appart from still forgetting what was saved where (requiring some more stomping to make sure I'm at the right place), the sound really blew me away. I guess I'll be getting another MS-3 for the larger board and then use more pedals in the L1-L3 serially connected, will experiment, definitely. Such a great product. Thanks again for all the videos!

@@NeilSpencerBruce I've taken images of the display with the patches in both memory and then manual mode - then I put that into one note in Evernote. If I have my iPad or iPhone (or any Android for that matter) on the stage I can bring up that note before the gig, have it on the floor or on the table with accessories, and then I can quickly just scroll through stuff before I start hitting the knobs on the MS-3. Well, I guess I'll be getting familiar with patches in no time, but only if they remain few or if I don't change too much. We'll see.

Learn something new everytime I watch your videos. Question to your video. Is there away in the manual mode let say i assign as you say reverb to #1. I know i can keep adding effects to footswitch. Is there a way where I can step on button one more time where it would allow for maybe a momentary univibe on top of what I already have i.e., reverb? Hope this clear

Hi Flash, thanks for watching and so glad to hear you get something from each video. Sadly the switches on the MS3 are latching and not mementary so you couldn't do this. You could connect an external footswitch to add the additional effect. Hope that makes sense, all the best, Neil

Can you please show how to use MS-3 to control an RC-5 via midi and specifically to start/stop an existing memory with single button push. I would like to have one button that has specific guitar sounds that also starts a recorded memory on RC-5 and another button (or same button) that would switch guitar effects and turn off the loop on RC-5. Then be able to switch back with only single button push. I tried to do this and have been failing. Thanks for your videos!

I did not find this option on CATEGORY field inside the ASSIGN. Do you know if is It possible to do this? Thanks!

Hey Luciano, thanks for watching and your kind words. Yes this is possible, maybe I should make a video as it is a bit difficult to explain but you need to go to the Assign page, select CURNUM on page 1. In manual mode, can I assign a extra pedal to my L3 like an EQ and be able to turn it off and on when I turn on and off the L3? The most I have down is be able to add it to the L3 but it doesnt switch the EQ off and on when I trigger the switch, In fact, I dont hear a difference either. I know memory mode it is capable but can see a way to do manual?

if the channel switcher that came with my amp uses one cable to switch channels and also switch reverb on and off will the switcher in the ms3 still work to switch channels
@NeilSpencerBruce

Hi there John, yes it should work you might just need to figure out which part of the TRS cable is the channel change and which is the reverb. You just have to switch the control in the MS3 when you plug it in. Hope that helps, all the best, Neil

Thank you for this. I have one question: Are you able to assign to a switch in manual mode an additional, say reverb, with different settings than the one you set up in the patch already? And how can you adjust and edit the effects you assign to the pedals in manual mode? I noticed for example that you assigned one switch to mod1; how do you then determine which modulation effect comes on and with what settings? I hope this makes sense. Thanks again.
@NeilSpencerBruce

Hi there Haukur, thanks for watching. You can do what you want in manual mode, you can assign a footswitch to any effect (and actually multiple effects, so you can have one footswitch turning on (or off or on and off) reverb, delay, od etc) . You determine which effect Mod1 is controlling but selecting it in the edit mode and changing the effect. Is that what you meant? Hope that helps. All the best, Neil

My question is: how can I use the sound hold as a freeze pedal?
@NeilSpencerBruce

You will need to use the assigns to assign a footswitch to the sound hold parameters. This will enable you to trigger the sound hold.

One question... I can’t seem to figure this out, reading the manual either, but I feel like it should be relatively self explanatory.. I’m using the m/m as another “curnum” function switch to turn on the mod1 block, but when I use “assign” blocks with “m/m” as the source to try and turn on other effects WITH my mod1 block, it only turns on the mod1 block and ignores my assign settings..? If you could look into this for me somehow that would be awesome!
@NeilSpencerBruce
@NeilSpencerBruce 5 жыл бұрын
HI there Aleksander, thanks for watching. Sorry for the delay but I have been a way. I think (from memory) that in /m/m that it ignores the assigns and they are 'assigned' to the block in question in that mode. I need to double check that but I am pretty sure that is the reason. Leave it with me, thanks Neil
@AleksanderLydkunst
@AleksanderLydkunst 5 жыл бұрын
Neil Spencer Bruce thanks man! I appreciate it! And upon looking further, the m/m switch can be assigned as a function switch for the entire system and is not independently programmable per-patch unfortunately.. however, I have a the fs-7 footswitch and it makes everything so much easier

Hi Spencer here i'm to ask you another thing please, i'm going mad, maybe you have the answer. For example in manual mode let's say i assign a reverb and a chorus like you did in yor video on the switch number one. In the switch number two i want delay and pitch and so on with the other two switches. What i don't understand is, when i switch between let's say number 1 and 2 or 1 and 3 etc... is it possible to turn off the effects that i have assigned to number one and have on only the effects that i have assigned to number 2 with just one click ? Or will they add up and so i'm going to have 4 effects in the other preset ? ( two of the number one plus the two of the other switch ) Basically it's lke what we can do in memory mode but with benefit of the spillover between presets. I hope i was clear enough ahahah. Thanks again Spencer....
@NeilSpencerBruce
@NeilSpencerBruce 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Lowrence, thanks for watching. Yes that is totally possible. You need to look at how you set up your assigns. So you would switch, rev chorus on with switch one, via assign one, but also turn off delay and pitch at the same time. You then do the same for each of the other switches. in turn and that should give you what you want. All the best, Neil

@@lowrencemayfield4271 NO worries, you need to make sure in the other assignment that you are toggling the effects you wish to turn off. This does mean it might be a little complex. Try it with one effect to start with. Something like this Pedal 1. Pedal 2. Reverb. Delay When you press one, Reverb comes on Delay goes off. When you press 2 Delay comes of reverb goes off. In your MS-3 Assign 1 = Turn ON Toggle Source = NUM 1 Target = Reverb Assign 2 = Turn ON Toggle Source = NUM 1 Target = Delay You just need to make sure the delay is switched on. Repeat this for all your other pedals. This should work Hope that helps, Neil

i have a question. i'm not sure if this is the exact video to ask on, but i'm trying to figure out how to use manual control mode to bypass an effect in an external unit via midi. i have the MS3 paired with a line 6 HX stomp. what i want is to be able to bypass a shimmer reverb on a heavy reverb preset that i have. do i have to use an assign setting or a midi patch setting?
@NeilSpencerBruce
@NeilSpencerBruce 7 ай бұрын
HI there, this maybe possible depending on the unit you are trying to control, but you will need to look in the midi cc settings of it's manual and look for Bypass. You would then set up an assign on the MS to send out a midi CC change when you click a certain button the the MS3.
