Nice! I tend to use the assigns to switch between multiple parameters. So for example, in the cover band I'm in, on one of my patches I have a dotted eighth delay with a compressor, then if i press the current number it goes to phase, plus my drive and changes the delay type. Then, if i press my external footswitch i can switch between the distorted phase sound and a chorus preset with OD. It's an insane unit which makes everything so much easier.

I love the "current number" feature and use it all the time to add a boost, reverb or other FX to my lead sound on patches. Here's my gripe... I wish there was a way to get the footswitch LED to change from blue to red when the other FX are activated by that second push of the footswitch, then back to blue when the added FX are de-activated. Those little red LED's are hard to see in the heat of battle and I need an easier to see indicator that the current number function has been engaged. I had a Boss GX-100 for about 5 minutes, it has the current number feature as well and the footswitch LED does change color when the current number function is activated. I have developed a workaround, I made a small box with a very bright LED that I trigger, again using the current number function with the control out 1. This works... but I think Boss could easily update the OS on the MS-3 so the footswitch LED could be triggered to change color, perhaps as an option offered as a current number trigger function.

Neil a quick question for you. I’m using a Mosky dual Footswitch with my MS3. I wish to use one button to add a specific FX into a preset when needed. I only use 2 banks of presets so…. I want to use the other button to switch between the two banks. I have configured the first option with no issue. The second option has been an issue. When I depress the button on the Footswitch to change the preset nothing happens. When I release the button the bank changes briefly then switches back to the prior bank. Do you or any other users have any suggestions? Thanks!

@@jorgeband1111 ah yes that would make it a bit tricker. Have you considered and extra footswitch such as the amzn.to/3aGLG9V which you can assign two additional functions to. I haven't had an issue with this. Thanks, Neil

Followed the instructions but when I turn off the MS3 and start it up again it doesn't save the action.

Hi Peter, did you press ‘write’ and then ‘execute’? It is easy to forget the second stage sometimes, I do it all the time! Hope that helps, Neil

@@NeilSpencerBruce Hi Neil, for 'write' do you press both enter and exit? And execute press enter?

@@petervdijk That is right, that should save everything to the patch.

The Boss MS3 cuts off the Delay spillover ("trails") whenever you change presets. This is quite annoying (try to play a U2 song that has 5 different sound changes). Other devices have "snapshots" or "scenes" that do not cut the trails of Delays and Reverbs when you change a preset/sound. How can you do this with the MS3? Obviously when you use the Curnum fuction it does not cut off trails but here we talk about only 2 snapshots! This is not enough.

Yes I can see this as a problem. The only option might be to use the other delays in a patch and use Curnum and assigns to switch between them. That would then give you 3-4 more options.

@@NeilSpencerBruce Thanks for your reply. Yes, I could do this but that would be tapdance craziness for many of my songs again. I thought the MS3 wants to prevent exactly this. Sadly the MS3 is not the problem solver it pretends to be for its price and weak in one very basic point for a gigging musician. I cannot imagine anyone who likes being cut off on stage. I am currently using the MS3 with the new HX Stomp from Line6 and that sound gap between the patches makes me horribly mad each time. Maybe I will try to use the snapshots in the HX but then again I do not know what will happen if put them on different patches within the MS3. The sounds in the MS3 are really great so I am not selling it that easily for the moment. But, you know, it's like having the coolest and fastest car in the world that has a steering problem at higher speed. Not at all cool. If I find a solution I will come back. Thanks.

@@alienlovesecrets9379 No worries (ps love the Steve Vai reference!) It shouldn’t mean that much additional tapping because you can also have an assign which is triggered by Currnum, in fact all assigns can be assigned to Currnum. So that should give you 5 options to switch on and off from the same foot switch. How are you finding the HX stomp? My biggest gripe with the MS3 is not being able to move the loop points around.

@@NeilSpencerBruce So sorry at this point for my confusion but... Only to make sure that I understand you correctly: You mean that in MANUAL MODE (!) you can have by the mere push of ONE BUTTON (any of the 4 buttons in that manual/red mode) multiple effects turned on while others are simultaneously turned off? How can I achieve this? That would mean that the MS3 could do snapshots WITHIN A PRESET. In MANUAL MODE (red) trails are not cut off, of course, the problem only occurs, as I said, in MEMORY MODE (blue). In this MEMORY MODE I can only have two snapshots (with the curnum function) in one button (let´s say button 1) without cutting off trails because in this case you would not change presets (=you just push again the same preset button that simply turns on/off effects WITHIN THAT PRESET). The problem occurs when you change a preset / push another preset button in the blue preset mode because the MS3 then has to load completely new effects into its processing memory. Of course in that new preset you can again have two "curnum snapshots." OMG, does that sh** make any sense? The problem is that I change a lot of presets during songs in some setlists and I just need those trails for a flawless playing. As for the HX Stomp: Yes, clearly a recommendation, imho. Very cool little unit. Basically you will get the exact Helix sounds as you know them with it. So if you like those in the Helix you will like the HX Stomp, too. I am basically a Kemper user (80%). I put the HX stomp on a tiny pedalboard along with the MS3 and a few pedals. I want to use the new board either as a backup unit for my Kemper or as the main rig for very small gigs or (what I am planning at the moment if I can fix that damn trails issue) also as an FX-board for the Kemper.

@@alienlovesecrets9379 Hi there no worries, I will try to help if I can. Sorry I don’t mean in Manual mode, curnum does not work in Manual as you suggest above. But you could still use assigns to achieve this (and have snapshots inside a preset.) It might be easier for me to show this in a video, but I will try and explain. In Manual mode, set up say two delay blocks, set one to button 1 (Num 1), this will toggle this delay on an off. Then using Assign 1 set that to Num 1 also and set that toggle on and off the other delay. This should enable you to switch between two delays on the same pedal. You could then do this across the other buttons (obviously limited to 3 delays though). I hope that makes sense, I will try and do a video for you asap to explain visually. Thanks for that, it is certainly something I am interested in. I had the Helix for a while and thought it was great, but I lost SO much time messing around rather than playing that I sold it. I basically try to play more rather than fiddle with gear so the Stomp seems like a great solution, plus the size is fantastic. As you can see I tend to just run a few pedals into a clean amp, so again a lot of what was on the helix was a waste for me. I also like the idea that you can just take the stomp in some circumstance to gigs or recording!
