Hi David, Thank you for creating so many great video, I watch them over and over again. Can you please provide some tips on your RC300 settings when you are looping 3 tracks with same length vs 3 tracks with different lengths (eg loop sync vs tempo sync settings, record/loop vs record/play, etc) 😁

I was literally JUST having this conversation with one of my mates yesterday about why I should to build up another/separate pedal board when I have the VL3. I brought up your name saying I noticed how you weren’t using yours as much and thought I should email you to ask your advice… and here’s your video about it. Perfect. Can’t wait to watch! Have watched this a couple times now - excited to take my looping game to the next level! I was wondering, (asides from the AB footswitch) does your mic go through any type of effect? I'm looking at the TC Helicon Mic Mechanic 2 - mostly for a boost, compressor, reverb (delay on occasion).
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 2 жыл бұрын
hey brother! yep that's a good option - the tone button is the winner from this system more than anything, and handy to have the delay and reverb in a pedal that you can switch on or off as suits when chatting etc.

Great video bro. Love the way you’ve added in the Loopi pedals. Hey, where is the setting to only trigger tracks 1 + 2 to play/stop? What a great idea but I can’t see it in the settings.

Thanks Andrew - it's using the assigns. Assign 1 to start stop track 1, Assign 2 to start/stop track 2, and target for both is the same control pedal. David, love your sound brother, thanks for all the videos - BIG time saver for a lot of us! Appreciate the run down on your new board as I wasn't aware of "Loopi" pedals and haven't seen them integrated with the RC300. Would you mind terribly if I lean on your experience a bit further? With your move to the RC300 - curious if you considered the Headrush Looperboard? I've been using the Boss RC30 for years ... love it and the large pedals it offers because they're easy to hit without looking down ... allows me to focus on the audience, not my board. That said, I find myself increasingly wishing I had a 3rd Track. Have you found the pedal size on the RC300 and their positions (close proximity) challenging in a live setting? Headrush has foot "switches" (like your Voicelive 3) as opposed to "pedals" and also seems to offer a few better options with regards to recording (export multi-track audio and 32bit vs. MP3 quality). I love Boss products, have no experience with any Headrush products, and just curious if you invested any time in that particular comparison before biting the bullet on the RC300. Plus, really, really curious about your experience with the size and proximity of the RC300's pedals. Thanks in advance and congrats on the new set-up!!!
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 3 жыл бұрын
hey brother! Cheers for the note. Considered the Headrush for sure - it's probably the best new development in a long time... A few reasons for me not going with it - starting with simply the fact that it was recent and receiving a lot of updates still and I didnt want to dive in and be the test pilot for its reliability etc. Aside from that there's not options to map starting multiple loops from one button (eg my own combinations rather than just all start stop etc), and the issues with the buttons used on the board not being great/failing. Having said that a buddy just swapped out all the original buttons on his headrush and is now loving it. Curious to see what might further develop from them but it just doesn't quite seem like a good fit for me overall. I think you'll find the pedal spacing on the RC300 pretty ok - I have done a rare mis-hit but not typical, and not something I'm concerned about etc. I did a little interview chat the other day, and it seems a bunch of us that are loop artists are essentially waiting for Boss to build upon the RC300 and release a new flagship model (even those that are using the headrush!). Anyway brother - that's just my own thoughts/opinions on things and based on how I personally use pedals and loop. We all have different needs and demands. Hope that's somewhat useful for you in the mix of things you're considering! If you're coming from using an RC30 then it is a big size increase - and bigger still if you add in trigger/control pedals like I have!
@tcollie2211
@tcollie2211 3 жыл бұрын
@@davidshanhun Awesome - thanks for taking time to share your thoughts and experience! I wasn't aware the Headrush had issues with their buttons and am surprised in all of it's functionality it can't be configured to turn on/off multiple tracks ... appreciate the intel. I'm definitely in the camp of waiting on Roland/Boss to update the RC300. That aside, I'm assuming getting use to the pedals is just going to take practice and building muscle memory like anything else. Guess I need to just go ahead and bite the bullet ... but building a new (larger) pedal board ... ugh! Ha! Cheers mate - enjoy the tour!
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 3 жыл бұрын
@@tcollie2211 all good mate! It's still a great piece of kit (headrush), and as they keep doing software updates it will likely keep improving too. The fun game is that each piece of gear takes a bit of time to learn - and regardless of how good the gear is we each use it in slightly different ways which makes one bit of gear amazing for one artist - and terrible for the next haha! The RC300 or the headrush will open up a lot of new options for your looping beyond the RC30. Thanks for the wishes too!

Love this video a lot. Would love to know more about powering some of the pedals through the Zuma. I know not all pedals are powered the same and wondered if you ran into any issues. The Zuma looks to have 5 supplies on it. Do you daisy chain out of those with 10-12 pedals? Thanks so much! Second question too. Can you one day talk more about getting your percussion sounds from your guitar? It is a work in progress with me and I am always looking for advice on that.
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 3 жыл бұрын
hey Johnny! Yep - you are correct - I'm daisy chaining the Boss pedals (tuner/delay/oc3/oc5), from memory something else is chained but I'd have to go and check specifically which. Each output on the Zuma is 500mA and quite a lot of pedals are 100mA (not all so check) so daisy chaining works pretty nicely. I was a bit wary of doing it in case of hum getting into the mix but have had no issues. More than happy to chat more about percussion sounds - been considering doing a Zoom session with a few people and making a video from that to share so I'll keep you in the loop. The main thing with guitar percussion is that each guitar has a different sound direct to the PA so it takes a bit of playing around to find what will work best for you.

Mr loop is back! How did you fix all these pedals on the pedalboard? What is that killer groove at 3'30? Is it imported or did you built it? The « wah» come from the RC?
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 3 жыл бұрын
hey Dov! All velcro to attach the pedals. The groove at 3'30 is an original tune of mine - the 'wah' sound is an envelope filter pedal I have on the board - it's not from the RC300.

Got a little lost with the Loopi Mic AB switching..... So one line goes to the RC300 guitar channel for looping, and the other goes to your PA/mixer for voice over??? And great video!! been looking for something along these lines for a while now!
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ben! Yes you are correct! Most of the time my mic goes through the switcher and direct to it's own channel on the desk for my vocals. That's the blue light on the switcher. When and only when I want to loop my vocals I hit the switcher, and that now sends my mic into the RC300 and no longer to the desk - so if I record a loop now both my guitar and mic are getting looped. This looped signal comes out the guitar channel and into the desk (now with both guitar and vocals). When I'm done looping my vocals the I hit the switcher and now my mic goes back directly to the desk. Does that help explain it?

Seeing as you have the RC-300 I'd pick something you like from Luke James Schaffer - you can usually see his foot pedal etc in the vids. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3Slm5pnZphrac0 (as idea/example). Carl Wockner is another good artist to check out if you haven't already.
