Great tips, I'm just beginning at this with an rc 300, I like it a lot and I couldn't agree more with you! I have watched too many people that think they have to add everything they have to the loop and as it comes in it sounds enchanting but after about 30 seconds it just sounds irritating. So, that's what I want to learn is how less is more, the basic lay down to play through out and what to add and delete and redo as you go through. Thanks again.

Great pedal the RC300 I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun! There's SOOO many ways you can approach songs and looping with a pedal like that. Lots of fun experimenting I reckon!

These 3 tips are priceless in avoiding monotonous loops and are exactly why you are my go-to channel to learn looping. I performed in bands and as a solo with MIDI tracks I created for over 3 decades. I am now interested in playing as an acoustic solo with a looper. Your channel has been an awesome resource for me. Many thanks...you are the best!

Nice,practical and musical tips! The most important takeaway for me is to not bore the crap out of your audience while you're building tracks but arrange it so that it's musical from the start. Adding stops is another great tip. My tendency is to play full songs and then noodle on them but hopefully the picking/chording of the song is interesting enough to listen too.

Amazing video dude. You really project a positive vibe while showing these tips. Massive help to me after just purchasing my first loop pedal (rc-30) can’t wait to start playing around with it. Brian Donoghue - I agree with you! The first solo I heard using a looper and many since then annoyed me and gave me a bad impression of loopers period!. It would take them 5 minutes to build the loop, 3 minutes singing the song, another 5 minutes noodling around on the guitar, then 3 more minutes singing and finally the end. Good grief that is boring and monotonous as hell. At that rate you'd only need to know 12 songs for a 4 hour gig...lmao!

The playing had EVERYTHING to do with the tutorial. You would be great without the looper, but you are greater still with it. I have looped for years and yes I use the dickens out of recording first verse while singing and it is ready for my solo....which is to break up looper numbing. I really like your stop before chorus. I also love your voice, song choice, guitar choice, guitar playing and treatment of each song. Yes these are somebody else's songs but you make them your signature version. I have always wanted a way to do free falling because it get's requested sooo much. I think I am going to borrow liberally that version. Thanks for being a real player and sharing your time and talents. Cheers!

This is geat. He addresses two of my biggest complaints whenever i see a looper. Tip one and two are indispensible guides (tip two helps you with tip one). The monotony is real, and I hate when someone starts a song and then a minute or two later they finally start the song.

I can see the hard work and focus required to reach your level of ability and your natural talent is evident. I can surely appreciate what it takes to be a loop artist. I've been a gigging musician for 44 years. But, although I've long wanted to, I've never performed a whole solo acoustic show. That's about to change. I have a three hour show prepared and would like to implement some very basic looping on some songs. I can't say my plans will never change, but at this point, I'm not looking toward ever being a loop performer, just a solo gigging musician. Again, I see and sincerely commend loop performers for all they do. But I've never been able to enjoy a full looping show. You've touched a few times on why and I commend you for making an effort in that regard. But the reasons I can't stay engaged for a whole looper show are: 1. It takes far too long to get to the entertaining part of a song. 2. Regardless of how proficient the performer is at seamlessly multitasking, he or she seems disconnected from the audience, unable to fully engage. 3. Instead of an entertaining mix of beloved, average length, classic covers, every show becomes a test of endurance for the listener where every one among the minimized number of songs is drudgery while waiting for the payoff. 4. Dynamics, mood, and lyrical meaning are all but lost because every song takes on a droning sound like a 10 minute electro dance track. When I go to a solo show, I'm not looking for a full band experience. When I want that, I go see a band. What I want from a solo performer is to be moved by dynamics, touch, and lyrics so effectively that I feel the experience of a song as if I've lived it myself. To me, that's lost in looping. But looping IS far better than backing tracks.
@davidshanhun9 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your perspective on this! I hope you have fun including a few loops that fit your vibe into your show and enjoy doing the solo show vibes for the first time!

Great tips and video! Couldn't agree more on shortening the "loop build". I watch all kinds of KZbin loopers and long intro's can easily suck the life out of a performance. I am currently using a Boss RC-300 and love having the flexibility of 3 separate tracks. I just recently added a Roland GR-55 to the mix and am having fun with the endless possibilities it provides. BTW- Great guitar work and vocals...Cheers!
@davidshanhun6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike! I've considered the RC 300 and the Roland Gr-55 many times! Very cool combo! Would be great having loop number 3 to add in and out of the mix! :)
@AidanMooreacoustic6 жыл бұрын
A lot of that is down to the limitations of the looper. I use the RC300, which allows you to have 3 channels, and you can have a different length loop on each channel. Apart from Ed Sheeran's custom build, it's the ONLY pedal on the market that gives you that option, meaning you're not having to construct long and perfectly in time percussive loops to fit with your vocal and guitar loops, which you usually want to be 4/8/16 bars. Happy to share how you unlock that little feature in the RC300 if it's of any use. Once you get that down, there's no other pedal really for in depth live looping gigs. PS great video mate!

David superb! 1. Could you give more info on phone apps you use drums and set lists? 2. Explain bit sample rates for loopers and what do you prefer 16k or 24k? And 3. How would you add a keyboard if you played in loop setup?
@davidshanhun3 жыл бұрын
hey Randy! The phone app I use is called iMaschine 2. I don't use any other apps or use specific set lists unless it's a ticketed type originals show. Sample rates for loopers in most cases I haven't had cause to be concerned about it - I'm using the RC300 currently and I'm happy with the sound - although the RC600 is out and has much improved audio, so I'll be curious to see how much I notice a change down the track. For adding a keyboard I think there's two options - one is you have your guitar and keyboard go into a mixer before the loop pedal which works well (although is a bit of extra gear). Or depending on your looper you can go into a spare input or an AUX input etc - you might have to buy a different cable or adaptor to do this, but that's the most common solution I've seen! Hope that helps brother!

You are the reason I bought one, along with Rob chapman! It would help massively if we could see the VL3 close up? I know it’s a ball ache because I make YT videos and it takes me weeks to make just basic one’s! Be awesome to be able to see exactly what you are choosing with each foot tap 😎

@@davidshanhun Thank you for your reply 😊 I learned and I enjoyed, what can I ask for more. Many people doesn't understand the beauty of looping paddles. With time and precision it does create some magic. Keep spreading music ✌️peace 💗

Hello Sir. If a song have 10 chords in the verse, how can i make a short(loop) track off it, do i have to play all the 10 chords . Like you say people are waithing;). I play Ukelele with a Boss rc 30. Thanks for the video. Greetings from the Netherlands.
@davidshanhun4 жыл бұрын
Hey Mario! tell me more about this 10 chords song! If those 10 chords are the pattern that repeats then you will need to play them all most likely. But if they are 5 chords that repeat twice - you might be able to loop it shorter. Or if there is a repeating pattern and then a different last line leading into the chorus you could simply play the last line without the loop perhaps! (so many ideas/options haha). What is the song?

I’m a busker and I been dreaming of using acoustic and a loop pedal and I been working my ass off doing what I love and now I got the RC30 boss do you do any lessons on how I could go about playing songs with it like lessons?
@davidshanhun4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jack! Good work on practising with the RC30 man! Are you looking for lessons on how to loop specific songs? (not sure I quite understand your question!)
@jackevans40634 жыл бұрын
David Shanhun it’s the rc3😢 but once I start busking I’ll grab the rc30 but yh anyway I learnt the live version of don’t by Ed sheeran by watching his live vid but ones I wanna try learn too are a lice loop of Sing - ed sheeran wicked game - stone sour (acoustic version) and just any you think will be a good bit of repertoire for my list mate thanks for the reply👍
@davidshanhun4 жыл бұрын
@@jackevans4063 awesome! The best thing is to do exactly what you did with copying Ed sheeran's live version of 'Don't'. Spend the time learning things one by one by copying initially man! feel free to reach out anytime if you get stuck on something :)
