Hey David I do "Crazy" as well I have a suggestion that some might find useful: When Playing a song where the chord changes from minor to major (or vice versa) you can loop the chord WITHOUT the third of the chord. Then you can play either major or minor on the fly.

So not only did you help me nail the timing aspect of looping in your "6 Tips" video, but this was the other topic I was concerned about being new to looping! Great job with this David. I have been playing music (muti-instrumentalist) for almost 30 years now both live and studio. The Studio "One-Man-Band" deal is always something I have done for demos and album work. Looping was always the "Dream Solo Act" that I have bwanted to do for20 years now. So I finally bought all of the gear and highly underestimated how much thought and practice needs to go into an act like this! Your videos have been extremely helpful in filling in those knowledge/experience gaps. Looping is a completely different beast of an art form that is such a cool act when done correctly. It's artists like you who make it look effortless and I hope to get there soon. Maybe even be able to give back to the KZbin community as you have fotoll the guys/gals that need it like I did. Cheers, David! -T

I ordered the vl3x to replace my old vocal harmony pedal. Suddenly I've been sucked into this world of looping and for some strange reason I feel compelled to loop the hell out of everything. Seriously though, great vid for people like me who thought a looper just went round and round until your head fell off. After about an hour on youtube this morning I came up with a list of very do-able covers I think I could pull off.I just added 'crazy' to the list thanks. Maybe I'll come back when I have compiled a setlist. "give it away, give it away now" is going round in my head right now... I have to go now, my acoustic is calling.

You have a great voice. Very expressive! 👍 On the looping, my Valeton GP200 looper has undo/redo footswitch, so I can record 4 bars then put something over it (like 4 bars of chorus stuff), then use the undo/redo button to switch between the looper playing chorus or verse. Obviously the original underlying 4 bars will be the same on chorus/verse but it can still give a good result!

Hi David, thanks for the in depth thougths. Another option can also be to jump between memory locations while a loop is playing. If the looper continues to play without missing a beat, it will allow one to perfrom a song with more parts or variations. This feature is quite common in electronic synths and sequencers. Once can copy parts from one memory location to another - either while performaing or may be in advance - and then build different layers in different memory locations and swith between them while performing using on board or external foot switches.
@ajaybangi3 жыл бұрын
Can you suggest a single looper unit which can utilise this jumping memory location as changing part of a song?

Hi mate. Love your videos, I'm wondering if you could do a video where you explain how to make loops sound less muddy, the more layers I add he more busy it sounds and the frequencies clash. I loop using Ableton and have all audio effects available I just need some advice how to use them when looping guitar. Would be really happy if you could do a video like this, all looping tip videos on KZbin just talk about timing really and not sound quality.
@davidshanhun11 ай бұрын
ah awesome question and suggestion! Yep for sure i'll make a note. The main tools for this are EQ on your guitar/looping channel, the volume of each loop you create as you make/loop it, and then lastly spreading out where on the guitar or frequency you are adding things. Eg if you add layers of the same open chords (for some reason), you're bunching up adding all the same frequencies on repeat. For starters though and before I get to make a video - trying an EQ removing a few db somewhere between 200-400hz - don't overdo it or your mix will sound thin, but this may clear up some of what you're encountering! That will often remove general muddiness in a looped mix.

David: Thank you, very much for these informative and entertaining videos. If you have time, will you do a specific video on how to properly map the loop tracks to buttons on the Switch 6? I have a half-hour acoustic gig next month and I am learning my (new to me) VoiceLive 3 Extreme. I would really like to be able to set dedicated buttons on the Switch 6 (or the Extreme if you recommend it), so I can easily switch the tracks on and off while playing and singing. I'm just not sure if it would be better to use the loop button on the Extreme and use the Switch 6 for switching on bass guitar and other things I should map to it. I would appreciate any guidance you can give, since you obviously know how to use the VoiceLive 3 in a live setting. Thank you. Looking forward to more videos. I have been playing acoustic and electric since 1974 but your playing challenges and inspires me to keep striving for more. I am more in love with music now at 60 than I was at 24!!!

Amazing! Can you tell me if it's possible to start two tracks just with one switch? I like to put a kick on track one and a basse on track two (for separate outputs front of house) But I need to start the two tracks with one switch so they start together immediately...Thank you so much

what loop pedal are you using?

Rc 300, but my question is for the rc 600, i hesitate to change. But if it’s possible on rc 300, tell me to 😎 thanks a lot.

@@sousajerome you can do it on both. Just set two assigns to start/stop the 2 tracks you want, and assign them to the same pedal to turn them on and off.

I started learning how to use a loop pedal and i have a really big problem most of the times. The loop pedal takes small breaks between looping a sound even if i press the pedal immediately after finishing the loop sequence. Do you know what i do wrong ?

Hi there - which loop pedal are you using? Could be some settings that can be changed or causing this problem, or could be a case of timing on when you press the pedal. Are you pressing the loop pedal on the exact same strum at the start and the finish - right on the strum both times? It can be really helpful to video yourself to see what's going on 👌
