The Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive is a great, and affordable pedal. These days it has a bigger brother, called the SD-1 Waza Craft. The Waza Craft is a more expensive, but also a more versatile, version of the Super Overdrive. How big is the difference in sound? Does the Waza Craft sound better? If it does, how much better? It isn't just more gain on the Custom mode. The frequency range is different. It;s broader in custom mode, and overall, to me, fuller and less fizzy breakup.

Great pedal. My clean boost LP1 seemed to color my sound too much. Maybe just me. I ended up getting a Modtone which I like because it has a tone knob that I can make sure the EQ is correct after the clean boost. I knew a guy that played with 2 sd1's. One with all the gain down in the front. The other with gain up all the way.. He apmost always had the first pedal on and kicked in the second pedal for lead. He said it was his secret to playing good lead. He's using something else now. His dad was the govener of our state, and he attended GIT and is a maestro too like you Elmo. 😉👍👍👍💝👍

By the way, regular SD-1 is very easy and cheap to modify for more gain.

I like the Boss SD-1W a bit better than regular Boss SD-1. On the second hand market the Waza is a bit affordable. I upgraded to Waza.

The waza is a bit more complete and open sounding in the top end. Fyi u can grab any of the waza OD type pedals on reverb in the $100 range (about €90) for a nice one.

There is no point trying to differentiate the two pedals with a description, so I will put it in simple terms... Boss SD-1 + Boost ($50 + $10) that you can add to ANY other pedal in the chain is more practical than a single $100 pedal... Basically what Elmo said...

The only downside with the sd-1 in my opinion is that it cut some bass. My solution is just to increase the bass from 12 to 3 o'clock.
