Boss couple of suggestion. First off good job. Suggestion, when testing wicks no need to waste wax by filling all the way up. Half is perfectly fine. Now here the next trick after you figure the proper wick and you want to do your power burn test to insure as the candle burns down it does not over heat the container and all goes well. Get an apple core tool and pull out your current test wick you have in container after it hardens. This will then allow you to place a wick with tab to secure to bottom. You will then place the wax in the apple core thru that wick and your ready to burn that baby all the way down.

just as in cooking, do not let your temperature probe rest or touch the bottom of your vessel --- it will give you a false read on the product (wax) itself --- most probe thermometers come with a clip to attach to the vessel and suspend it above the bottom of the vessel - nice presentation !

What about candle tunneling while doing test burns? Tunneling is due to the wick not getting hot enough for the wax to have a complete melt pool?
@bossvision3 жыл бұрын
Tunneling could be caused by the timing of the first burn being too soon or by the wick being too small for the size of the jar.

We are in the process of performing wickless testing on the vessels we want to use. I have been up all night testing trying to find the right wick for one vessel. After a power burn it's exciting to see how the wicks all perform so differently.

I love the idea of looking at this way for testing For the drill bit does it matter what size it needs to be. Also does the wick move at all when it gets hot that would be my only concern since it doesn’t have the tab on the bottom
@bossvision2 жыл бұрын
really thin drill. The wick doesn't move unless you burn it for more than 4 hours

So the question I have is this: do you choose the vessels you want FIRST before you wick test or do you just get some containers and then wick test? I can’t seem to find anyone talking about that because I’d hate to spend a crapload of money on vessels (and ruin them by testing) that I want beforehand if I don’t have to.
@bossvision3 жыл бұрын
Start with developing a business plan. Framework for the type of vessels FIRST then order a small batch. Elect one of those vessels as your tester! Only one
@justshy223 жыл бұрын
Not sure if this is a dumb question, but wouldnt this method limit you from testing for soot because you arent really letting the candle burn low ?
@bossvision3 жыл бұрын
After an hour of having the wick lit, I always can tell whether there would be soot from the flame. If your flame has black smoke coming from it then you may need to test different wicks. Eco series usually gives me soot. I hope this helps

Hold up. I’m in the process of testing candles for my candle business I’m starting soon. I only using 6 scents to start. So I was going to make 6 candles with each scent and test each candle. So what u saying is u don’t need to make a bunch of candle cause if the wick work for one candle it will work for all even with different FO ? Plz help
