Nice video - Readville is about a mile or two from my old neighborhood of Hyde Park. (I now live in West Roxbury, and the Needham line is right down the street from me.) One thing you notice is that hardly any trains (except the Avelia train) stop at the "main" line where the Amtrak/Providence/Stoughton trains operate. The main trains that stop at Readville are the Fairmount Line on Track 4 and the Forge Park trains on Track 5. You are 100% correct that the Amtrak trains operated on the Fairmount line (which was also called the Midland line) from 1979 to 1987 to allow the rebuild of the SW Corridor line. There was a shuttle from South Station to (old) Back Bay until the SW Corridor reopened in 1987. If I remember correctly, they had a two car Budd RDC train (or maybe a GP9 hauling two Budd cars). Ruggles is where the Amtrak trains accelerate from Back Bay to Route 128, not quite reaching the 125mph max until they're about a half mile outside of Ruggles. From Route 128 to Providence is where the Acela picks up its max speed of 150mph.

Not only did you see your F40's, but also some of the last remaining Kawasaki cab cars assigned to the south side! Most of them have been moved north, and soon all (and probably a couple rotems) will be moved north to replace the remaining bombardier comet cabs.
@3985uprr10 ай бұрын
I notice the doubledeckers all have power vestibule doors. Some used to have manual doors. The comets look tired and still have manual doors. I know of no commuter railroad to North America that has a mixture of power and non-powered doors on their trains. My next trip will be to get north side stuff.
@MbtaVideoClips10 ай бұрын
@@3985uprr Yeah, only half the 900 series double decker cars have the handles, which mostly are north as well. Also, if you come up north, I’d suggest Anderson RTC or Wedgemere, for its Amtrak Downeaster trains (stops at anderson, skips wedgemere) & the frequent Lowell Line service during rush hour. There’s also 3 haverhill trips a day that run nonstop down the lowell line & wildcat
