Just magnificent! I like how Kevin turned to give honor to the trumpeter while he was doing his solo part. Not only does Kevin have a powerful, rich, soul-stirring voice but he seems to be incredibly humble and kind.

That trumpet and the mask thing will be a new classic.
Hard to compare this voice with anyone. Very rich and flawless through all registers, and of a good size. Musicality is beyond excellent, and that kind of humble ease that speaks of years of faithful work for something beyond himself. I kept waiting for him to really ring. Not how he envisions this aria, I guess. Certainly the message can be a serene, confident statement as well as a more militant admonition, as in the singing of San Ramey, for example. This man's low notes are superb, and I am glad he placed the bass note at the end of the middle section.

Bravo Mr. Deas . This is probably my favorite aria in 'Messiah', I have heard many versions of the performance and this is one of the best... what vocal plasticity, what melody of the voice... BRAVO MR. DЕАS !

KEVIN DEAS: The man to whom I owe everything for my technique. Everything about Kevin is musicianship on the highest possible levels, and he is the nicest person you could ever meet. No one - NO ONE - has ever or will ever sing this aria better. Effortless. Powerful. Zero tension. Limited movement. At 5:42-5:59.... looks like he barely breathes, and he finishes the phrase with loads of air to spare. Props to the trumpet player, as well as outstanding intonation by the strings of the BB.

Beautiful performance. Mr. Deas clearly is immersed in the emotions of the words. The trumpeter takes a bit of 'baroque license' and this adds spice to the interpretation. Well done!

I Corinthians 15:51-52-Behold, I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (KJV) 🎺 🎺 🎺
@Chompchompyerded Жыл бұрын
Top drawer bass! Like i always the case, it isn't sung as Handel wrote it. The autograph manuscript has the syllable -ti- falling on the first beat and all the syllable being given an equal length. Thus, if sung as written you end up with in-cor-rup-TI-ble. To hear how it is sung if being true to Handel's notation listen to this recording on KZbin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHjZYYyud7iHgrM It is debatable whether a piece of this ecclesiastical magnitude would have received any ornamentation, but assuming it could have, I will say that the ornamentation given by both the trumpetist and the bass singer were quite interesting, capable, and well within what we would expect of an 18th century performance.
@irenesupica55717 ай бұрын
How interesting. I've sung this in a chorus many times under many directors and have never heard the pronunciation you have described. It certainly sounds strange to me. I'm thankful for the non-original version. But, I really loved the voice of the soloist you shared. Beautiful!

What kind of trumpet is that?
@kirkstitt51842 ай бұрын
It is a natural trumpet in D without valves. It is similar to the trumpet in Handel’s lifetime. It is very difficult to play in tune. Mr. Levine did a fine job.

Gorgeous tone, but we’re there some liberties with the text? Exceptional natural trumpet, may well be the best I’ve heard. A very enjoyable performance.

Playing the trumpet with a stupid mask. Ridiculous. Does he also have a virus filter inside his trumpet for his breath getting expelled out the bell? Was the marvelous vocalist arrested immediately after the concert?
