Although I was a Jets fan in the mid 60's, I really loved watching the Patriots and Jim Nance. He had great speed for a big man, and the Patriots-Bills battles 1965-66 were a joy to watch if you were a football fan. I remember seeing Jim Nance rush for over 100 yards against the Bills on a rainy day, with a sloppy, muddy field. One of the best running back performances that I have ever seen in my 60 years of watching football.

The team was the Boston Patriots possibly in name only. Between 1960-70, their home games were played in Nickerson Field, Fenway Park,Alumni Stadium at Boston College and Harvard Stadium. In 1971, they moved to Foxborough, and the team was renamed the New England Patriots.

Did Shonta have ESPN, ERRRR...ESP? That was, what??..three or four weeks before the end of that season? No one knew what was going to happen at the end. By the way, the AFL counted ties as half of a win AND HALF OF A LOSS. It was the NFL pre-'70 schedule merger that did not count ties as anything and the NFC and the AFC continued NOT COUNTING THEM UNTIL 1972-73's SEASON..which to not count them BEFORE THAT was really dumb since no one with a chance to kick a tying field goal during a game's ending seconds, rather than trying to score an iffy TD, was going for a TD at the end unless they had to have a win. The latter UNWARRANTED TD TRY would have been putting the example's team in question easily in peril of not gaining anything positive in the standings, if they eschewed the FG and missed on the attempted TD drive/play(s). A no-decision was and is still better than a loss. So, what deterrent did a tie not being counted, provide? None, and it did not reward teams, other than not losing, for not only their avoidance of a loss in the standings, but for coming within only 1 point of a win and not letting the other team win the game.. So, you said 8-3-3 is better than 9-4-1, but that was not the case in the AFL= 9-4-1= 9.5 W- 4.5 LOSSES, SO DID 8-3-3..= 9.5 W- 4.5 L.. In the NFL 8-3-3 equaled 8-3, and 9-4-1 equaled 9-4....there in the NFL. thus, 8-3= .727 winning percentage..and 9-4= .693 winning percentage.. BUT, neither the Bills nor Pats were at that time in the NFL. So they were both in the AFL ...8-3-3=9-4-1= 9.5- 4.5 .679 WIN PCT. FOR BOTH..BOS. AND BUFF. The AFL still had the one game playoff if there was one needed for a tiebreak and they would've played if everything had stayed the same. That tiebreak game was also the case up until 1967-68's season when the NFL went to two rounds of playoffs and introduced levels of tiebreakers including head to head results, divisional record, conference record, etc, other than playing ties off vs. the team that your team is tied with.. So, your gripe, does not work in the AFL at that time..sorry..In its last season the AFL went to two playoff rounds and went to tiebreaking criteria, rather than a playoff game to break any tie. Finally.. Layoff poor elderly gent, MR. SHANTA, and learn about old AFL tie rules, too. Yes, Boston would've had to go to a tiebreaker game if everything stayed the same, and maybe they would've won it..but weeks before the end of the season..players do not know how things will go..THUS, YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME so you do not NEED TIEBREAKS!! And again, BOSTON likely would not have won it outright even if they had tied that game where SHANTA caught the pass and was pushed back trying to WIN THE AFFAIR.. YEP..

@@67marlins81, he shows me no respect when he doesn't care to be as consistently clear as possible= at least an effort at being grammatically sound..correct. Its one thing to use "in" at the end of a verbal word instead of "ing", its quite another thing to just not give a damn. I am not a fan of dressing up ignorance and poor effort, and excusing it as cool.. Mediocrity is now a high ideal, because our schools cannot wait to graduate illiterate kids. Furthermore, while those children are in school, the latter's administrations are afraid to discourage those kids with criticism and higher bars to reach because they know those discouraged and subsequently, disgruntled, youngsters once they reach the age of consent, can quit school, thus cutting down on the money those schools get from the state education fund. So, the schools give soft grading based on lackluster standards and dwell on social crap rather than reading and writing fundamentals. Our public schools, with few exceptions, want kids to stay the full term, and not drop out, but the same schools have greased the skids, so the most underperforming students will be out only after 12 straight passing grades. WE CANNOT HAVE THEM FAILING AND STAYING AN EXTRA SCHOOLYEAR; can we? And, frankly I do not care what you think about me.. Folks, my response is for others reading his comments. Thanks to the NFL's stupid helmet rule, there can be no Pat the Patriot throwbacks any longer...unless the Patriots revert back to a white helmet or the NFL changes that stupid helmet rule. Having multiple helmets has not had an adverse effect on College players. The NFL rule keeps several teams from having throwbacks.
