Yeah, I’ve been debating this, because I much prefer the separate displays and not the big one piece screen. However, having now seen it in person, it’s not too bad and I like the updated frond end and boost in power. One thing I do hate is the toggle switch shifter.

Temperatures change and must be adjusted; sometimes very quickly. I've been in areas where I had to immediately apply the defroster while driving in heavy traffic. I'm thinking that t would be very difficult to perform that maneuver and perhaps others procedures interfacing with basically a computer while being a responsible driver.

Having had several BMW X5's over decades, you still have to be an officiendo to spot all the changes. Great cars with multiple personalities, but one big problem now is the new dash and lost buttons. First the reflective surface of the driving consul is a definite fail. Just look at all the reflections in the dash screens at the 7 minute part of the video. The reason the older car had a binacle over the instruments was to reduce glare and reflections. Also buttons don't require the driver to take their eyes off the road. Unfortunately, I would think twice about buying this new model just on this point alone.
@texastravelers210 Жыл бұрын
I agree to what you were saying and I also like to add that more car manufacturers are moving to the touchscreen layout . 4 years ago I had to switch my company car from BMW 5 series to Audi A6. While the BMW had all buttons the Audi came with touchscreen only. It's so distracting when you just want to change the ac temperature. Unfortunately that's the new trend.

oh crap even worse - how fun is it see your own reflection whilst looking at the dashboard during the sunny drive... man this is a potential culprit for a hazard to say the least, not to mention the annoyance of the reflection in the first place. It's a not efin mirror.

7 reasons for X7?
@rogerspalding5673 Жыл бұрын
Your review only covered about one-half the "improvements" of this mid-life upgrade. You completely missed one of the most enjoyment hindering tech additions. The 48 V "mild hybrid" generator does more to interfere with rubber meets the road spirited driving than anything else in memory. How in the world can the vlogger avoid mentioning the the hybrid generator actually disengages the engine from the drive train, and turns off the 3.0 Turbocharged In line Six cylinder, while coasting. Saab used to call this "free wheeling." It did nothing for Saab sales in the 70's either. Furthermore, the hybrid also creates non-defeatable auto stop-start when the vehicle is brought to a full standing stop at a traffic light or stop sign. Secondly, the elimination of the gorgeous BMW shift lever and crystal shift knob is unadulterated sacrilege. Perhaps, you can confirm a rumor I heard, that the hybrid generator does operate stop-start or free wheel style engine disengagement when the X5 is put into sport mode? If true, this would go a long way towards moving up from my 2018 X3 M40i to an X5. What say you? Thanks.
@morsecode4036 Жыл бұрын
I test drove x5 yesterday. Yes, when you put it in sport mode, the engine stays on.
@rogerspalding5673 Жыл бұрын
@@morsecode4036 Thanks so much for this valuable info. I normally just leave my 2018 X3 M40i in comfort mode, though I have no objection to, and even like, sport mode. The difference in full economy is negligible. Should I move up to the 2023/24 X5, this will give me a driver decision to circumvent the stop/start. With the hybrid, I understand that acceleration from a full stop suffers from a "barely noticeable" hesitation. No matter how little the engine shudders on takeoff, or disengages during coasting, I want no part of such an elaborate Rube Goldberg device than can only create more problems and bigger repair bills for the owner.
@morsecode4036 Жыл бұрын
@@rogerspalding5673 You're welcome. BMW seems ahead of the curve where all cars are eventually heading. I didn't notice hesitation in comfort mode - I enjoyed sport mode more though. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the x5 if it had manual transmission-so much more fun to drive imo. A little more research and I'm pretty sure I'll be ordering an X5 (with leather!)
@bingohhhhhhhhhhhh Жыл бұрын
@@rogerspalding5673 Funny I just got a slightly used 2022 X5 xDrive40i with M Sport - and I was shocked to see the auto-stop button had disappeared, did not even register during the test drive. And yes I can confirm when put into Sport or Sport Plus the car keeps running when stopped. The further workaround is that if you don't want "Sport Mode" characteristics, you can do an individual profile in Sport Mode and then tick off all the sport driving options so it's essentially Comfort Mode but still keeps running, no auto stop-start.
