BOTAJELL great looking engine man, really killer crankcase! Congrats! One thing that I’ve done to my 5b and my q290😉 is I’ve neatly cut away all of the plastic covering the head. All I leave is enough all the way down the flywheel side to retain the coil wire and kill switch. I think exposing the cooling fins helps it to run cooler and it looks a lot better. I want to thank you again for showing the q290! I took it to my job site today and threw it a proper beating, it held up well.... what a great time! I did however adopt the BOTA mods though..... 1 - battery lead hanging out. 2 - washers for the ball ends

If you like the raw finish you can put vht flameproof clear coat on it and it will look raw and won't rust, I'm gunna do that on my pipe for 70cc

I may do this to my titanium RCMAX pipe but oil coating on it will bring out more of that blue look that they have ! But on my Drag Build I want mine ceramic coated to keep all the hot exhaust gasses in the pipe as much as possible and that will also boost in engine performance and less heat to radiate off the pipe and that means cooler engine temps and less chance of burning my hand 🤚

Jimbo Jones you should try a 990 with a spring from the 813 and don’t forget a Velocity Stack It will feel better then a 1107 and replace the intake also with a RB . You can’t go wrong with a 320 for bashing ! Great price , great to bash , long lasting, and you can always do a E.S.P. Head and crank kit on it

Jimbo Jones stock 990 is good to but if you replace the spring ? Your 990 will keep dumping fuel on the top end it will keep feeding your engine on the top end. If you don’t want to replace spring or think that you may not be able to do that job ?? You can just get a Modified Bartolone 990 carb or OBR Modified 990 carb? Don’t get the Rooster 🐓 Tail 990 carb because it’s too much for a stock g320 but it would be great for a Modified 32/34/and even 46,47 cc engines !! RB insulator block intake for off-road 👍

BOTAJELL the spring? You mean the spring for the needle and seat under the metering diaphragm? That’s easy mate. I’m a mechanic by trade. So the modded spring is softer to allow the needle to stay open I take it. The 990 carb I have is modded with the throttle shaft bearings.

Instead of a traditional clutch with Pad on it ? Is that what your saying?? If so your a lucky man and great to hear because that’s a awesome clutch but you have to break them in by driving around slowly for 30min

Good afternoon John. Thanks for getting me into 5th scale. I recently bought the KM X2 Losi platform which I need and engine. Last week I bought Dans Kraken Vekta 5 at King Motor upstate NY which comes with a 32cc Zenoah engine. I was thinking of using the Vekta engine for the X2 and using a more powerful engine for the Kraken Vekta 5. Question John, what engines and size would you recommend for the Vekta being much heavier than the KM X2?

Nicole & Dakota Horn not really all about Engine size because a good Modified 30.5 can do wheelies on a Baja better then some 32s but a good running 32 can do the job also it all depends and also what gearing you use counts a lot also especially with normal size engines

John Johnson there are many different ways to build a Drag Baja so just pick the style you would like to use and go with it . My friend Carlos likes his style of Baja build better then using a FG suspension set up just because it’s very consistent. But some guys like the other setups so it’s up to you. This year my Baja will be different and something new to me and I have no idea how it’s going to be ? Some people tell me to just leave it alone but I want to change things up.

There both good and both feel different and some may even like the 30.5 more also so it’s all up to you. What about crank cases ?? Are you talking about piston port or Reedcase engines? Because they also feel differently from one another! Some people like one more then the other and some like both like me that’s why I have multiple engines. I really like a bad ass 30.5 but that bartolone 32 is a bad bitch aswell and I also like my 34 but I would probably say go with the Reedcase 32 for now then try another engine when you feel like having something different like sound and RPMs and powerband . My friends BR32 is nasty in his 4 wheel drive X2 and that’s pretty much the same style truck as yours

BOTAJELL hi mate thanks for that but what I want to try first is a piston port engine I have a stock g320 but once that starts to loose compression I want to get the Esp head kit from ddm and change out the head and see if that will go I have two choices the 32cc with stock stroke or go the 34 stroke but I heard I will loose rpms with the 34 so does that mean I’ll loose top end speed I currently running 22/58 gearing if I go to the 34 will it be slower? Some told me the 34 had more torque but the Rpm’s drop off that’s why I was thinking of going with the 32

You seem like the subject matter expert. I am a complete noob to 1/5 scale. I have a DBXL with a stock motor, velocity stack, and a cheap tuned pipe. My stock Carb is failing. Do I need a get the original WT 668 or upgrade to another Walbro carb. Is there a benifit

Yes please upgrade to a 990 carburetor and throw on some fresh fuel lines , fresh plug , and go out and have fun! If you can get a good pipe on there also or just use what you got? What pipe you got?

@@BOTAJELL not real sure on the pipe. I bought this rig used and the previous owner put the pipe on. I added the velocity stack and the spiral metering spring trying to fix the flooding issue. But the carb still sticks with wide open throttle.

Marshal907 ask the old owner what pipe it is? Or let me know what you see on it if any letters on it and if it’s a welded pipe or a stamped pipe . Welded pipes are best

Marshal907 yeah I thought it would be ! It’s unfortunate you don’t have the Bartolone pipe or the Victory pipe on there but that’s ok don’t worry about it and save your money for a better engine. Just run what you got but throw on a 990 carburetor and fresh fuel lines
