You got to consider that the initial announcement of the last 3 Nintendo hardware you talked about was under Iwata's tenure. Even though you can't rule out that possibility, there is no guarantee that Furukawa wants to do it the same way.

Probably won’t be this year. I’d say the best we can expect is a direct in June with more games and a potential reveal late this year or early next year EDIT: Yeah I agree I doubt it was even coming out this year

I did mentioned at the live chat yesterday with AndresRestart about my theory: The switch 2 trailer is coming soon but when? A thought of mine lately saying if there's a June direct, there won't be a switch 2 trailer at all. Another thought of mine saying if there's a September direct, there won't be a switch 2 trailer at all. It would be very weird for Nintendo to not releasing the switch 2 trailer fo the 2024 calendar year, but either wya will happen for the FY24. Remember, Nintendo wants to sell as many switches they can by cleaning up the switch lineup all the way til early 2025. I think Nintendo does have one more killer app for the holiday 2024 season is a newer 2D Zelda ame, not the HD ports.

Trouble is, we don’t have enough first party in the pipeline to justify a direct. It’s Endless Ocean, Paper Mario, Luigi, and God willing, Metroid Prime 4. There are third party I wanna play coming like Deca Police and Ace Combat 7. But these all merit Twitter posts. Not a direct.

While it's possible Nintendo could mention something at their shareholder's meeting, I feel Nintendo's push to release new hardware is not matching up with gamer copium. The Switch is still selling and it's clear Nintendo is satisfied with how things are going for the time being. My personal opinion is if new hardware is coming out in March, they might make an announcement in August and show it off at Tokyo Game Show in September, then just focus on hyping up the new system until launch.

Maybe we should really consider that Switch 2 might come out in late 2025. The fact that a new BIG Pokémon Leyends Z-A is releasing next year tells me that Switch 1 still has a lot to tell.

My understanding is that Nintendo announced that the switch will be a 10 year long console which would indicate that it is in fact a 2026 release and honestly given the many quite literally hundreds of games in my switch backlog I could do without a brand new Nintendo console and would gladly settle for a Switch Pro for the next few years, probably not a popular opinion 😂 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I’ve always been Team 2025, but now I’m starting to think 2026 can be in the picture. If my math is right, Nintendo will end up selling 16.2+ million units for FY 2024. That is a very small drop from the 17.9 million units from FY 2023. With those types of sales numbers, they can easily release one big game for late 2024 and a few remasters to be set for the remainder of 2024. I’m sure they have a Switch variant (or even a revision) up their sleeve to prop up Switch sales. Metroid Prime 4 is a notable omission so far. Nintendo learned their lesson in announcing games before they are ready, and will not announce late 2024 games until the June 2024 Direct. I’m sure there is a game lineup for late 2024. I don’t expect any type of Switch successor announcement for May 2024. I expect Nintendo to project anywhere from 10-12 million Switch units sales for FY 2025 in their financial report, indicating that the Switch is sticking around for a while still.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo did not announce anything to their shareholders ahead of an official announcement. Nintendo's board is unusually patient. And with the current success of the Switch, I think their investors have no choice but to understand why Nintendo isn't telling them anything either. Nintendo does not push for much growth. Because things are good now, no announcement to investors is necessary. If things were bad like the WiiU days, then they might do an announcement to reassure investors things will go back to normal soon.

Bro its sooo clear that first party development has shifted to Switch 2. They cant go on much longer coasting on 3rd party collabs and smaller first party IP. Even if its not confirmed at the May conference, i still think an early 2025 release is the most likely scenario.

Really, I thought every real fan of Nintendo saw the Nintendo forecast video where he pointed out it would be a horrible financial decision that once seemed good to Nintendo because the yen is currently weak. It’s expected to improve… oh would you look at that, right around the time production would begin with the delayed release.

Are people usually this hyped about new consoles? I’ve been gaming since the SNES/Genesis days. A little before actually. If my brother would let me touch the controller. I never really paid attention to console launches. I’d just read about it in EGM or Gamepro and eventually get it once a bunch of stuff I wanted was there. Hardware never excited me. Most of the games I’m playing recently are either ports from PS1, 2, and 3 era or just emulating my PS2 and N64 games like Dragon Quest VIII, Suikoden III and the THQ wrestling games.

If I don't hear about this console any time this year; I am buying a Steam deck and possibly skip buying a Switch 2 in the launch year. This has been ridicoulous for them not to mention anything in what seems to be the driest years of all gaming period. They got the advantage and they still dragging their feet.

However, the more the drag their feet to release, the more chances of unforseen circumstances, can cause them to delay even further beyond what they wanted and that would cost them. The world is not in a stable place right now politically, socially or biologically. Would have been best to release it this year just ti make sure people can get the thing, before that choice isn't even available.
