Looking good Charlie! When it comes time to setup the HVLP gun PLEASE go over that. Things such as settings for the gun. Thinning the paint etc etc. Very interested. Keep up the good work!

That’s a bummer about the Bondo & wood hardener. It’s very true about the hardener - more is better than less. BUT, also depends on temp and how quickly you want it to cure. My guess is that it had to be some sort of weird chemical reaction to the wood hardener? Anyways, glad you’re making progress. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast 😎

Interested to see any thoughts and comments you get on your new paint setup. I've been thinking of going the same route.

So far nobody has raked me over the coals about it yet! 😅

You should try fiberglass resin instead of the wood hardener it will dry in an hour
@overtimearcade Жыл бұрын
Good tip! I’ll have to try that in the future! Does it sand as well, or is it a lot tougher?

@@overtimearcade I was going to come in and recommend the same. I did a Defender cabinet recently that had similar delaminating and the resin worked well. You can dilute resin with a little acetone to help it soak into the wood better, but that will add to the drying time. One more thing you can try is to mix bondo with resin to get some of the properties of both. I tried it after seeing the suggestion on KLOV and really enjoy it.

@@overtimearcade it’s a little harder to sand, but your DA sander will take care of it just use 80 grit, and then your Bondo will adhere to that better than wood hardener

@@Mathsjester Great info, thanks! Does it sand as easily as regular bondo?

The hardener in the Bondo also helps it stick better to surfaces so it doesn't fall off. Add a touch more hardener. It should be more light blue in color than gray. It should cure in 5 minutes. 10 max. If it doesn't you didn't put enough hardener in. Remove it and reapply.

Good to know because I’ve got a ton more cabinets that need this treatment. As in literally more than 2000 lbs!

Your wood hardener may have dried but I would bet it was still off gassing. That could explain why the Bondo did not setup and bubbled. I would give a minimum of 24 hours for any chemicals to off gas before coating with anything. I deal with a lot of chemicals in my line of work. I hope this helped.

I think you’re probably right! I’m the least confident with all of the cabinet repair and woodworking stuff!

No, but you’re right - I should have used that April Fool’s Day mini cabinet for some bondo practice!
