I love it when other pilots are not ashamed to share their mistakes. Thanks for posting!

+Ryan McFarland thanks Ryan, I got redemption I that they changed the departure, and I flew it correctly at night last week.

I appreciate you sharing this experience, which otherwise would be very difficult for any pilot to share openly. It is through this sharing and reflection on your part you are making the rest of us better and safer. You are one of a kind pilot and I would like to thank you for doing this valuable service to your fellow pilots. Safe and happy flying, Brian!

KZbin is full of hotshot pilots posting all their glamor. Thanks for being humble, teachable, and part of a community of pilots looking to do better next time.

Those guys mess up as much as the other guy, it's really easy to edit it out. This really was a teachable moment, and I do departures way better now. Also they have since changed that departure because of the number of times people made the same mistake

Thanks for posting. It takes guts to post your mess ups on a public forum but I thought the controller was quite tolerant even amending the clearance so you didn't have to descend and providing you the rational behind the crossing restriction. Some days you have it some days you don't. Just hopeful that on the days you don't nothing horrible happens. Keep your chin up and keep posting flights!

I think it was a good learning experience. I crossed wenz at 1650 and just kept climbing to 2000. As you can see from my other videos I am usually better on the radios and far more attentive. I should have asked tower for a little more time to get the departure in my head before leaving.

thank you for sharing

"All-in-all this departure gets a C-." Ha! Your taxiing gets a "C-", your check-in gets a "D-". Busted a hard altitude on a SID. That gets an "F."

Thanks for the comment. Ok, I was probably a little generous with the grading. But I did post the video as a what not to do. I am usually way better with the checkins, and flying the SID. This was a bad day.

The centerline is for professionals only. ;)

You weren’t focused, happens to all of us. I fly in the same airspace. I think the rushed departure had a lot to do with it.

+Richard Hawran I agree, also the new ruudy 6 makes a big difference because you don't have the climb steps anymore... I did that last wed night

Yeah, TASCA at 2,000 didn't help. New one is easier to execute correctly.

Let me preface this by saying, yep I screwed up, I should be able to fly a SID to standards all the time, and have been far more attentive since then. The new version is far more intuitive. They are going to give you climb-outs by the time you get to Ruudy anyway, and you aren't going to hit anything at 1500... Just keep it at 1500. I can understand doing the SID with step ups if you are flying a gulfstream or citation with a VNAF FMS, but the 182 and SR22 I fly up there on a regular basis aren't the epitome of automation especially on departure.
