Hey this is a great vid ! I started flying in 87, when I was in high school, soloed, written passed, and just about ready to take my check ride, weather set in, time on my written expired, never finished, but now I want to. Only took 30 years to get to the point I might be able to afford it again, lol btw I live in Farmington MO. Be safe and keep up the vid's.

thanks. 87 was the year I started flying. I've flown into Farmington maybe a half dozen times in the Encore.

Its nice to hear familiar voices on the radio, besides yours of course. I used a GA strip about 18-miles NNW of TEB for home. Always gave it up to New York ATC as being the best ATC group to do business with. Great video.

Thanks William. I'm thinking about making a series of hour long ATC videos from old flight videos I never used but, had good ATC. After each landing another would start. I think it would be good for student pilots to get a feel for the back and forth ATC communications.

Teterboro, one of my favorite airports. It seems like every time I made an approach to TEB it was minimums all the time. East coast weather is not so good. Thanks for the memories.

Richard, Have to agree with you on the weather. When it moves in everything slows to a creep. I remember sitting on the Teterboro ramp for hours waiting for the weather to clear.

Hi Cap' Merry Christmas! I wanted to say that as I was viewing the first few minutes of your forward view. I had the sense that you were flying at the edge of space and the sky... And it reminded me of some of the videos I've seen of celebrities being allowed to fly in the U-2 Spy Plane! Man, that's a high flying aircraft! Especially when the plane is flying higher than the distance between it self and a commercial air liner and the ground and the altitude of a commercial airliner!

Twas glad that Jim was in command 'cause I was basically at a loss as to what the ATC wanted. For a while I thought we were on an ILS approach but then it dawned on me this was a GS descent. My last flight in command was in 1968 on a ILS approach in my 172.....I would have been sweating blood if I was sitting in the left seat on this flight. Must be nice to stay cool headed.....
@captmoonbeam8 жыл бұрын
It's not that anything was exceptionally difficult it was just busy.
@edrosenberger69478 жыл бұрын
Things happen quicker in a jet when compared to a 172 and the difficulty for me was the busyness and not being able to understand what the ATC wanted. I think my main problem is the lack of recent radio work. I've had a bunch of passenger hours in a Citation II.....it was my favorite travel machine :).
@captmoonbeam8 жыл бұрын
Not getting what ATC wants or is saying is a common issue. Half of it is knowing what they will say before they say it. That part comes with hours of just sitting there listening. If KZbin had been around when I was taking flying lessons, I think getting the ATC part would have been so much easier.
@mikebrown6148 жыл бұрын
Great video, Jim. The only thing I might have liked to see (hear) is you making a few voiceovers explaining some key points in the progression from flight-level down to landing. Overall, very enjoyable and, of course, you make it look easy.................

Greetings Captain Moon Beam. We are about to depart this coming weekend for 4 to 8 weeks, so we just wanted to wish you and your family all an absolutely fabulous time over the holiday season. We look forward to catching up with your travels when we can. And just as a side note, we wanted to let you know that we will be moving house during this time, so that also means that our contact name & email address will also change! So it's not that you have lost our devotion to your channel. Thanks for sharing your adventures, and for replying to my comments. Catch you both on the back side of the moon. Cheers Jack.

Thank you. Having moved some 30 times over the past 14 years, we are used to it. Fortunately, we are not involved in the process. We get to leave, and most items are replaced for us when we turn up to where ever we end up. Stay safe as we see that you are going to experience a fairly intense winter! Cheers.

"Traffic!" Yep!, I had to rewatch the video and then spotted the helo just at the lower corner of your window @14:45... So, that reminded me of the long range sensor system in place to detect that helo... Is the detector a sound wave or the radar or a laser sweep of the area around your aircraft? I remembered a documentary I watched about PSA Flight 182 that crashed here in San Diego in 1978... They stated that from this crash the "close proximity" technology came into being shortly after that incident...
@captmoonbeam8 жыл бұрын
each of our aircraft has a transponder. Our TCAS (Terminal Collision Avoidance System) takes info from both transponders and determines if an aircraft is a threat. As two aircraft converge it issues a warning. If they continue to get closer it issues a conflict resolution which would be a climb or descent till clear of traffic.

Hi I enjoyed this video, good one! Just wondering if you ever tried to measure the Cosmic ray flux/count while flying at altitude as compared to sea level? I am not worried about this from a health viewpoint, I just think it would make for an interesting experiment. Are the planes you fly have a rating for this? I can find and I can also calculate the flux based on an atmospheric model. I just wonder how it matches up with actual data. Just curious.
@captmoonbeam8 жыл бұрын
No, I haven't tried that. I can tell you that pilots are exposed to a higher level of cosmic radiation than the average person.

I`m a new subscriber and I just have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer. I was wondering what a yaw damper does? and what is the largest plane that you have flown? Great video by the way.
@superskullmaster8 жыл бұрын
Noah Holland well I can answer the yaw damper one. Basically it prevents the aircraft from yawing when it's not wanted(which can lead to a nasty condition called "Dutch Rolling").I think passenger comfort plays a big deal in that feature but also ease of aircraft control and added stability. You can still use the rudder but it is subdued somewhat(I'm told) Think of an rc helicopter with a gyro for the tail rotor. Similar but different. Someone feel free to correct me.
@noahholland31008 жыл бұрын
thank you superskullmaster

@BossaNossa18 жыл бұрын
Cap' I have a couple of thoughts/questions I'd like to pose, So, the auto pilot is it working solely on your preprogrammed inputs? Or a combination of your inputs and some type of sensor (laser-distance detector - or?) Do aircraft have ground sensing lasers or sound or radio wave devices to give the navigation system instant information? I can see you push what looks like a way point button, is that correct? I see a green light come on and then go off when you push the button... Thanks! :)
@captmoonbeam8 жыл бұрын
for normal use we set the autopilot for vertical mode and lateral mode. That would be a specific altitude or climb/descent and a heading or nav sensor to track. The aircraft has a data base of terrain and obstacle heights and will warn us if we start to get to close and are not configured for landing. The only instrument we have that senses the ground is our ground radar which will show our distance from the ground within 2,500 feet.

I've watched most of your videos, but I've a question about this airplane. Where's the magnetic compass?
@flyboyf11748 жыл бұрын
If your are talking about the whiskey compass it does not have one. Its integrated all in to the avionics on the standby and MFD displays.
@captmoonbeam8 жыл бұрын
that's right. I'll just add that it gets it's heading info from a magnetometer mounted in the tailcone stinger.
@Dolphinvet8 жыл бұрын
Live and learn. When did they start putting magnetometers in aircraft instead of the magnetic compass I've always been used to having as my backup? I admit to being out of the game for a lot of years until this past year. Now I'm "back in the saddle" and signed off. I admit that GPS navigation is new to me and I'm still learning the G-1000 system (it rocks compared to the old VOR system I used from everything from a Cessna 150 to the Lear 35A I used to fly) but I think the modern systems are fantastic.
@flyboyf11748 жыл бұрын
The G-5000 is very nice with all the touch screens. Whats Cessna put in the new 750 680+ and the 680A
@Dolphinvet8 жыл бұрын
Yeah they are really really nice aircraft, and totally out of my price range. Like I told Capt. Jim on another post, I want a Citation 1sp with the Williams engine upgrade and the G-1000 equipment. I'll have to see how my companies do this coming year, and what my accountant says I can do (not to mention what the wife lets me do too).
