It was a lost position anyway. Mate in 7-8 moves with black only prolonging the inevitable by checking king with bishop and queen sacs. Any queen move is mate, but if she saw the mate and was gonna set the queen back down and move pawn f5, then knight g5 sets the wheels in motion for mate in a few moves...

@@lellyparker We're looking at the variation after Qxc3. If Anna takes the knight on c3, as she intended, there's no way to stop Qxh7#. You're right that if she played f5 instead of Qxc3, she would block Qxh7#, but that's not what we're talking about. Edit. I think it's already checkmate as soon gxf7. f5 blocks Qxh7# supported by the bishop temporarily, but I don't see what white can do after Ng5 reapplying the support for Qxh7#

I think the mouse slip happened when she saw the diagonal. So she wanted to move the pawn to block it, but instead just slammed the queen.

I get so lost in trying to follow chess games. Anna - even if your queen had taken the knight (which I assume you were trying to do when the mouse slipped), is it still not checkmate with white's next move? I would have tried pawn to f5. But then what do I know, my elo is zero!
