i feel exactly as you do. I'm putting my second replacement on hold too! after 5 months i still have lots of pain, some days i can't walk, i limp... you know the drill! anyway i watched your video w Tony and had to subscribe w you, because finally i heard just what I'm feeling and thinking! i was feeling kind of weird when someone asked why i still can't walk well, have pain, have problems going down my steps! actually you boosted my confidence, and when i go to my doctors appt next week, i plan on telling him to cancel my surgery on Dec 5, I'm not ready!!! because I'm not! by the way I'm 70 yrs old and i need some free time before a second surgery to live my life, til the rims fall off!(i think that's how it goes!) Thanks so much for being here and being REAL!

Thanks for watching and subscribing. It took me two years before I could really feel I was functional. My channel has moved to being mostly an ebike channel for seniors, but there are over 250 knee videos you can watch. Just go to the main Russ Is Right page on KZbin and find the Playlist called Knee Videos. They are all in there. Good luck on your own knee journey!

It's hard to tell someone what they should or should not do. You've gone through things I never will go through..torn meniscus, MUA. For me, just doing simple things I haven't tried for over a year, gave me an accomplishment...I sat on the stairs. I was happy for myself. In Feb, I go in for my yearly checkup with my knees.

Hi Russ. I'm the 81 year old lady who had to have revision one year after tkr. My revision was 6 wks ago and I'm improving quickly. Way less pain than first time. My numbers are 0 and 114. Seems to make a huge difference when the replacement is actually done right. Not happy yet but believe I am getting there. I am very fortunate to have made it through the longest year of my life. Thanks for your concern.

Hey Russ I'm 64 and about 10/12 years ago I had the meniscus removed and chondroplasty done on both knees. I was bone to bone, both legs. It's been up and down but I think I've got it figured out. I lost some weight and working out and gained muscle and strength in both legs. Went mostly beef carnivore- 2 1/2 years ago and pretty much kinda was doing good. Then a couple weeks ago with my right knee (the good one ha!) Hurting all the time I started wearing compression socks and compression knee socks. WOW I can do what I want with no pain now, after just a week of wearing these. I'm a roofing contractor so I need my knees to work. Good luck hope this helps someone. The cho-pat braces are my extra go to when I need it !!! The KZbin guy "kneesovertoeguy" had some good info. Still no replacement surgery for me !!!!

A bit over 5 weeks left TKR. Will never do the right knee even tho it's bone on bone. Checking into nerve block and wheelchair. Recovery after surgery did me in. Watching your videos has really helped me see that it isn't me. I've had other serious medical "things" and did fine. Just some of the unlucky ones.

Hey, Russ, I am 62 years old and this year I found out that my left knee is bone On bone, they ex rayed my two knees, and the right had a lot of cushion and the left none and looked painful and my right femur got crushed when I was younger and I had the biggest steel plate put on it and years later had to have it taken out but that knee is still good but the doc has been given me shots every three mo. in my left knee I find that riding my bike it does not hurt and the more I peddle the better it feels so I never use my throttle and I ride an average of twenty miles a day and rarely miss a day but I do live in Fla. and I average 20mile before I drop a bar on my stock Zebra display and the other day I got 30 miles on the first bar and now I just ordered a second Battery to put into my rear rack bag and I am going to use a 40 amp dual battery blender to blend the two battery's together and it is a 48v 30amh battery so I am going to way more than double my range and I don't know if My knee will be able to hold up but it will also extend the life of the two battery's big-time because they will stay cooler and there will be less strain on them at least that is what I read!

Hey Russ. I’m 2 months out tkr. Everything you say is my problem. I’m only at 60 degrees by myself so today I’m going in for manipulation. After watching your video I’m nervous. I can’t afford to have my knee be horrible for over a year. I’m a barber so if I don’t work I don’t get paid. As a father of 5 I need to work. The pain and depression you speak about hits so close to home. How are you feeling now ? I need some hope and reassurance I’ll be ok.

It's been a bit over 3 years since my TKR of my left knee. I'm currently at 120 degrees for flexion and 0 degrees for extension. I am doing well now, but it took me nearly 2 years to get to the point where I would say it had gotten as good as it was going to get. I still had issues up to around 1.5 years and took another 6 months to finalize everything. While it took me 2 years, that doesn't mean you will. I had two MUA's done, one at one month after the replacement and then the second was another month after that. I needed both MUA's to get better. Hopefully you will do well, but it is quite possible it will take a bit longer than you expected. Good luck today!

Hi Russ, I got my right knee replacement 2 years and 10 month ago after bone on bone pain for years. I still have pain and stiffness today. To say I am disappointed with 1st operation would be right, as I seemed to expect a miracle cure. The pain is different today and any low weather system like storm is in my knees 2days before the weather card is showing it. Now my left knee is starting to pain too, also I got an injection into it 6 month ago I know I have to face this replacement one day too. To be honest I will hold off as long as I can, as I have high fear that the next TKR will be no better what I have now.

Russ, I believe one of the issues we share is time. I have a 1 year old knee joint, however I have 67 year old "stuff" the new knee joint was placed into. LOL! You may need to have the doc look at that MCL. You likely have a strain. It requires rest, not work. For the other knee, our body will tell us, when it's time. I do not want to wait as long as I did with my right knee. We don't have to rake leaves too much in the fall down here in Florida. We just trim the yellow frawns out of the palm trees. Lol! Now that the temperatures have plummeted down here into the 70's, it's a great time to be out in the boat. Using the ladder to hang the lights on the house didn't bothe me at all. I am riding my "new" upright exercise bike, daily, in order to gain strength in my quads. I am also attempting to trim more than a few pounds prior to my left TKR surgery target of March 2022. I expect the weight loss and the exercise will make the knees feel much better, but it won't remove the damage from the arthritis. My right knee(TKR on December 22, 2020) is doing pretty good. No pain, only slight stiffness, which I can live with. Hallelujah! That knee felt it when I first rode my exercise cycle. Fine now. My advice: 1) Rest your knee until the MCL pain subsides 2) when it does get back on your bike and ride it like your being chased 3) Pray that your church finds a permanent home so you don't have to hurt yourself helping with the "load out" and "load up" every week. God bless and best regards, (Pastor) Dan

Russ, prior to my TKR I CAN STILL REMEMBER MY ORTHOPEDIC Dr answering the same question. He said you will know when it’s time to call him and schedule the operation. Truer words were never spoken. I too was struggling with bone on bone knee pain. It was a month following our conversation I called and scheduled the knee replacement surgery. I’m sure you’ll get to that place with your other knee. As for the pain your experiencing with the knee replacement, you should talk with your Doc. I recently aggravated the hell outta of my knee while moving several months ago. I went in and he gave me a shot in the knee (cortisone I believe) and within about a week the pain and soreness was gone. Just because you have a knee replacement you shouldn’t have to endure pain, especially after two yrs. You can have injections every so often to alleviate any inflammation you may have. While the Bike riding has really has helped my overall range of motion and the knee feels stronger, I still can’t or won’t ride on back to back days. Maybe consider spreading out your rides. I’m out like 2-3 x a week myself and the knee feels good.

I don’t think it was the bike rides that got my operated knee hurting. It was other stuff I was doing. I think a bit of rest and it should get better (hopefully).

Hello, first time I have ever made a comment to anything. So I hope I do not mess up. I had a tkr in Oct 2020. Was pure hell for me. Dropped 30 lbs. I was out of work for 20 months. Knee dr gave up on me. He offered to put me on disability. I said no. I had to find my own way. He just wanted to give more shots and do a hip replacement. He refused to do the manipulation . Every one told me to give the dr 6 months. I did, then I went searching for help. First thing I did was Acupunture. That did stop the intense pain. But I was still in pain. Both knees and hips and thigh muscles were in pain. I went to a neurologist. He ran a test. Only came back positive for Lyme disease. Went to an infection disease doctor. He said it was a false positive. At that point neurologist would not help. Then I went to a function medical dr. Tested positive for Lyme again. She had me do infrared sauna treatment. After months of that I started to get stronger. I joined a high intensity training gym class for old folks. I thought I was never going back after each session for two weeks. I thought they were going to kill me. But by morning I felt good enough to go again. Went back to work after being off for 20 months. Still in pain, not as bad. I worked for 14 months then retired. Now I am doing stem wave therapy. I do not want to do any joint replacement surgery if I can help it. I also did myrafascial release therapy, while I was off. I did a lot of physical therapy too. I am still not where I want be. Some days are better than others.

@@RussIsRight, I was wondering how you are doing. Glad to hear you are doing so good. At my job I rode a tricycle with a tool box on it to carry tools. I would do 1/2hour laps in the plant on days that I could. But it would irritate my knee. I stayed busy because sitting was painful too. In may I started to see a Gonstead Chiropractor. I have been totally happy with her. Except she is just over a hour away. But was close to where I worked. She has really lowered my pain. I do not wake up in pain most mornings now. When I saw the full spine and hip X-ray, it blew my mind. It matched my pain areas and confirmed what my knee dr denied. In July I went and saw a new knee Dr. Of course he wants to replace my hip. And also suggested doing a knee revision to get more range of motion. Just under 90 right now. I asked what a revision was. He said remove the new knee and replace it with a new knee and clean out the scar tissue. My initial thought was Hell no, that is not happening. Now I have started the Stem Wave therapy, not stem cell. Almost like a Sonic wave therapy but a has some improvements. I have high hopes. If it does help, then I will have him do it on my knee. I am enjoying my retirement working on our house. Tree limb fell on it. We are doing a complete exterior repair. Insulation, wraps, and siding. Adding spigots, outlets and lights. Some days I do good and some days I do not. But I really enjoy this kind of work. Without the Gonstead Chiropractor, I would not have been able to do this project. Have a good day and enjoy your e-bike and life.

Stay the course! Continue to do your exercises and stretch! When I finished therapy (12 weeks post TKR) I was still feeling pain and didn't have a satisfactory range of motion, but was close. Improvement continued the more active I became. I did finally reach a point when it hurt less than prior to surgery, but it took time and effort. One morning, weeks later, I noticed the pain was gone!!!! There is a horizon. Keep praying!

If your "old" knee is hurting now, you will change your gait to compensate, so that can cause pain in your "new" knee (you are using your muscles differently). You should also consider your hips - if you have any kind of pain there, that changes your gait too. You should not have to greatly restrict your activity once through with your main PT so you should definitely see your orthopedic surgeon, or see a different one for another opinion. You need to be able to live your life. Not being able to move right and then gaining weight, which has it's own set of health implications, is not something you should settle for. I have a friend that was a competitive cyclist (was on a team with Lance Armstrong for a bit) and speed skater. He had one hip done and was able to go back to what he wanted to do relatively quickly, including his cycling.

Makes sense. The right leg could be affecting the left from how I'm walking. My hips have always hurt too, often times more so than the knees. My doctor x-ray'ed them and said they were fine. I don't think they are.

Hello, I would definitely take it easy on the other knee, I truly belief that knee cartilage regeneration is around the corner. There is a group of researchers working on using cartilage cells from the nasal cartilage to implant in the knee as it is not prone to inflammation and degeneration like knee cartilage. But obviously the waiting vs getting it done now is dependent on how much the joint pain/condition currently is in, every person has to weight in their option.

Hey Russ I was wondering if you had to retire early because of what was going on with your knee?
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 2 жыл бұрын
That was one of the main reasons, but also, people were not buying DSLR cameras as much as they did when I first started the school. Many people were moving to just using their cell phones. Kind of a mistake for high quality, artistic photos, but that is the reality. Also, today, the mirrorless camera is the camera that will take over DSLR (digital single lens reflex) cameras. No big deal here as it's really the same thing... just a difference in how you see the scene without a mirror but using a monitor instead. Lastly, the pandemic was just starting up, so nobody would be wanting to take group photography classes. Add it altogether and its a recipe to close the company. OK... plus I'm getting up in age, making it difficult to find a job unless I started my own business again. Well, you can call my KZbin channel my new business because I do pay income tax from the money given to me from KZbin/Google. Technically, I'm not really retired if I'm earning money on KZbin, right? But this is FUN, not work really. Of course, having my own photography school was fun too. :)
