No they don't. NO. THEY. FUCKING. DON'T. ONE MAKES YOU CRY AND ONE MAKES YOU CHEER.
@vlinderfin6 ай бұрын
It made you cheer when Grunkle Stan sacrifices all of his memories and his entire mindscape essentially killing his mind and entire personality and becoming an amnesiac husk of the man he once was in order to defeat Bill and save his family finally proving that he isn't just a selfish old crook like everybody always thought? I know he ends up getting his memories back and is fine in the end but, A) We didn't know that when this scene happened, B) That doesn't diminish his sacrifice, and C) Papa G is also fine in the end, he ends up wheelchair bound afterwards but he is confirmed to still be alive at the end of series. Were you under the impression he had actually died cause he hadn't and honestly that fact just makes these two scenes even MORE similar, since both scenes feature older mentor characters making an ultimate sacrifice that turns out to be just fine actually
@ananonymousbean27316 ай бұрын
@@vlinderfintbh i had the same reaction, and I think it's because of how the shows portray the two moments. Grunkle Stan was very spunky and angry, and we knew he was going to be alive afterwards, even if an amnesiac. It wad his moment of victory over Bill after the demon came after his family, so I cheered when it happened because he won and looked cool doing it. The other one was just sad. The music was sad. The animation was gorgeous but sad. The people were sad, everyone looked hopeless and even to the last moment where their hands were literally inches away was sad. Yeah both were moments of a mentor sacrificing themselves, but the show portrayed them differently
@vlinderfin6 ай бұрын
@ananonymousbean2731 I would argue that the amnesia aspect makes it worse, like the man everybody loved his gone but his body is still around and we still have to see him and interact with him, knowing that it's not the same, I think that having him still be around would make the grief even harder if he hadn't gotten his memories back, I guess I'm just more infested in how the characters felt than how I feel as an audience member, I'm thinking about it from Mabel and Dipper's perspective, and I know that if I were in their shoes, and my beloved great uncle just resigned himself to a life of forgetting me and his life forever so that I could be safe, I would NOT be cheering no matter how cool his one liners were

That cut was like a jump scare, especially since the reversed version of bill's gibberish was what I sent after temporarily rejoining my old friend group's discord server the day after I was kicked out of it, shity situation but being able to use a gravity falls clip was a nice little positive. Although, despite knowing that people who'd cut me out that quick aren't worth my time, despite knowing the plentiful flaws and issues with that group, despite holding such hatred for them now, and despite knowing my departure from the group was a long time coming, a part of me still misses the times when I had a "better than nothing" group instead of just constant pondering with only a handful of none negative interactions with people over the course of a week (I still have a couple friends but one of them is busy hanging out with the rest of the friend group (she's the only one there who didn't immediately cut contact as soon as I wasn't in the group) and the other one is in another friend group so he's busy hanging out with them a lot, other than that I've just got a few former friends that I just stopped hanging out with over time that I'll run into from time to time). (I was kicked out of the group around 4 weeks ago). This was a bit of a tangent but that clip from gravity falls just reminded me of all this and I figured I may as well put this out there.

in my opinion I do not see them as the same... Kid cosmic is more painful and sad... and Gravity falls is still sad but in an epic amazing beautiful way. both are beutiful, but Papa G is sacrificing his life to give. Stan is sacrificing his mind to attack and destroy. In Gravity falls im rooting for stan, knowing rhe outcome. For kid cosmic I know the outcome and I'm dreading it, i want anything to just undo the situation. like for me and stan its less of a loss. Stan really has been a character that summer and before then his life was in the gutter. really losing those memories wasn't much of a sacrefice relative to stan (NOTE it still is a massive sacrefice to forget love ones, but really more memories can be made next summer) in kid cosmic, we feel the weigh PaPa G's life and influence has on the characters and comunity. He's kid's closest family, and he's basically the father and grandfather of a the characters wirh his kindness, wisdom, and helpful nature. Really loosing him is like having a parent or grand parent die. I just dont like that feeling you know... i mean the same can be said for stan and having family with dementia. i guess in that sense the 2 are easier to emotionally compare.
