Fantastic. Always loved this song and even play it in my own rudimentary way 😆 I notice some are baffled by your talent which I'm sure you have...in abundance. However I'm thinking of all the practice you must have put in to get this good. To me that shows dedication, stamina and willpower. I have been playing Classica Guitar for 40 years and love POP music arrangements, BOTH SIDES NOW has been arranged for SOLO Guitar by so many, This one is the most that catches by 'classical guitar mindedness'. Thanks for the free sheet music Emil, what makes hard to play this easy, intermidiate level of difficulty is playing those 'harmonics'.

I remember back in 1985 when I recorded with my walkman, Tommy Emmanuel doing a pub gig in Sydney and playing Chet's "dropped D" version of Over the Rainbow and thinking WOW! Then a few years later he arranged his own version in C that sounded completely different. He definitely pushed the envelope much further with that tune. And likewise here, I've only ever known Chet's version of "Both Sides Now", which is nice and boppy, but this version.... WOW. It's definitely pushed the envelope further. I've posted this thought before in another video of Emil's, in that you can easily sound good playing fast. But demonstrating your virtuosity through all the nuances required in a slow song, that takes talent and genius. This arrangement is just heart stopping and a real tear jerker. Which is what can happen with a simple tune, if it's been arranged and played by a world class virtuoso.

Oh Man Emil, you really nailed this one. It was like listening to Joni without the words, especially her later version when she dropped her vocal register. The tone, the feeling, the cadence - everything was just perfect. She is such an iconic voice and to capture it the way you have is nothing short of miraculous. And those cascading harmonics? Tommy Emmanuel - eat your heart out, you met your match!
@mediamannaman6 ай бұрын
I read Emil's bio recently. Funny you should mention Tommy because the bio says that Emil was first inspired to learn that method (finger style?) when he heard Tommy Emmanuel.
@lordglencoe21946 ай бұрын
@@mediamannaman Emil has been a sort of "protegé" of Tommy's for a while. The "wonder from Down Under" is very good at helping others. The method is generally known as finger style, but Tommy calls it the "boom chick" because of the sound the alternating bass makes when you slightly palm mute the the strings. Those harmonics are fiendishly difficult to play and Emil is as close to Tommy as anyone I've ever heard. Many of us, me included, have been inspired by Tommy but very few (certainly not me) get even close to his capability.
