I was but a child when this song was published and hit the air waves,, I probably heard it and do not recall it during those early years. Enter the 70s The Eagles, Chicago, legendary Singer Songwriters like Jim Croce, Carole King, smooth 70s Soul Music, ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton and the louder more assertive sounds of bands like Led Zeppelin, Queen & Aerosmith. I can vaguely recall hearing 'Both Sides", but it failed to gain my attention,,, maybe the opening lyrics were too dreamy & fluffy, maybe the radio stations of the American Midwest passed this song over as well. Who knows? It simply was not on my radar. I was just playing the MonaLisa Twins "Duo Sessions" play list as my head was up in the clouds,,, rather the ceiling fan that I was annoyed with repairing (no parts needed and only a few tools) when this song came on. The opening lyrics again failed to bring me in, but just as my repairs entered the completion phase; "Well something's lost, but something's gained in living every day" sounded in all of its angelic glory. "Well something's lost, but something's gained in living every day I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all I've looked at life from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all" It just all made sense. Good Lord, what have I been missing? Repairs aside and feet back on the ground; this song racked up yet another KZbin view as I listened again, but more intently and with a more accepting mind. Those opening fluffy lyrics certainly paint a surreal landscape background for the rest of the song that reveals a deeper meaning of the duality of life. The ever so salient lyrics suddenly become masterfully crafted poetry, well deserving of the brilliant simplicity of this MonaLisa Twins Duo Session recording. I love discovering anew what was once old. Thank You.

The MonaLisa Twins are my favorite performers. How couldn't they be? With such sensitive, talented treatment of the Classics, plus their original songs, they provide their audience with the best of past & present. I loved Mona's finger picking on this. Her harmonica is reminiscent of Dylan's in its gentleness. The high harmonies are special, as is Lisa's lead... I'm also pretty sure they keep looking lovelier as time passes.
