These two guys must be best friends and it's hard to believe how in sync they are. You can see in Phil's expression that he is truly happy from the bottom of his heart to have a team player whose level and commitment to his work can be shared and TOGETHER lead to something EXTRAORDINARY...INCREDIBLE LUCK FOR YOU BOTH!!! THANK YOU A THOUSAND FOR YOUR BEING!!! And the percussion is not like the third cartwheel, but the dab on the iii...GREAT ART OF CREATION!!!

I was in awe when I saw this in Syracuse, NY. I am still in awe that I can see this drum duet, +1 from a live video. We will never see this live again due to Phil's ailments, but I get to see it taped just like back then when I saw Genesis at the Dome in Syracuse. I was lucky to see Genesis 3 times in Syracuse. Once in the small War Memorial and 2x in the Dome. My favorite band. I hope Phil can now sit back and see all he has accomplished as a member of the greatest band I've seen. IMHO.

Watched many times over with my dad to the point he got crazy. It did form a special bond we have with music and each other. To this day we listen music together and when we find some song we like we text each other and hype each other up about.

No Phil Collins and Neil Peart are in their own leagues. Its like comparing EVH to Eric Clapton. Eric Clapton to Prince. Prince to Stevie Ray Vaughan. SRV to Jimmy Page. Neil and Phil belong to a very special tier where neither of them are better than the other. They're just a part of a class of true drumming legends.

I periodically come in to listen to this.... what is so amazing about this is that three percussionists are playing together it does not sound a mess. The timing is precise. They play in unison. This is how i would imagine a single octopus playing. 2 legs 6 arms multiple brains and 3 hearts.
@kbrewski1 Жыл бұрын
That has to take a lot of practice together. But Phil and Chester have been drumming together in Genesis and in Phil's solo band since 1977, and they are just always so perfectly in sync with each other, its amazing. It probably helps that Phil is lefthanded and Chester is right handed.

An absolutely fantastic version of this fabulous intro percussion segment. As great as Phil was in his drumming prime, Chester clearly demonstrates his incredibly superior chops in this segment, to both Phil's amusement and enjoyment. Kudos to Phil for replacing himself on stage with the likes of Bill Bruford and Chester Thompson and elevating the live performance beyond the already awesome studio standards he'd set with Genesis and his solo records.
@kbrewski1 Жыл бұрын
Lmao, Phil is an incredibly GREAT drummer. Phil and Chester are very similar Progressive Jazz fusion drummers who are versatile and play with a similar swing and chops. Phil not only drummed for Genesis since 1971, he drummed for the instrumental jazz fusion band Brand X during breaks with Genesis in the late 70s. They complement each other perfectly. When Phil heard Chester drumming for Zappa and Weather Report, he knew Chester would be the right guy to dual drum with and play in his style. You don't compose a scorching iconic jazz fusion track like Los Endos without having drumming talent galore. As Peter Gabriel said when they hired Phil to drum in 1971, "I could tell Phil was a great drummer just by the way he sat down at his kit."

Read many comments, and we all agree that we are seeing something special. Chester and Phil are without question awesome, but I gotta speak up for Neil. This... or lack of this... is why I have mixed feelings about the Genesis reunion tour. I've watched the videos of Nic Collins on drums and he is fantastic! And to see Tony, Mike, Daryl, and Phil together again would be great! However I think with Phil's mobility problems and Chester not on the bill (as of right now) I might be disappointed. But since there are no US shows yet (if and when they're added the tickets will probably be too expensive), I will have solace in the many times I saw them at their peak.
