This video shows how I repurpose old medicine bottles, that were found on bottle dump/dump site. It should show you one of many ways you can acquire glassware for a lab of your own.
This glassware is hardly comparable to a professional one, due to possible high amount of contaminants, but is well sufficient for a non-professional home chemist, like me.
I hope you like the video! Have a nice one.

Awww. Thank you a lot! You started and so I want to ask. Is there anything that can be improved? I made the videos, but that's why I'm unable to judge them, so what do you think?

@@petesmiscellaneousdiscover655 Maybe keep the searching shorter with the searching. The explanation was very useful. Loved that part. :) keep it up!

@@oxilary2369 I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I understand. Could you explain in other words what do you mean by the "searching"? English is not my first language as you can see :(.

@@petesmiscellaneousdiscover655 You picking up the glassware, maybe cut that out and put a small clip of the place. :). Maybe also speed up the reviewing of the glassware.

Nice work. You made better use of a free afternoon than most folks. ;-) Can new caps be found for those bottles?

I've found a few amber versions of the clear 100ml bottles. They have got a black polystyrene cap. They are probably younger, but are still mechanically damaged. I'm thinking of looking up some caps on eBay, but the thread is really strange, because it's from the communist era and is not so common anymore. The bottles are absolutely usable and great, but the caps kinda suck :/. Also, thanks for the kind words! It made my day! ;)

@@petesmiscellaneousdiscover655 A great thing about glass is that it just almost does not age. But the material of the caps obviously isn't so inert. If caps can be found you've fully revived their usefulness, right? Maybe new caps can be adapted even if the thread is a bit off. Or 3D printing? Anyhow, you're welcome and continue!

Right! But I think 3D printed caps may not be suitable, because of their structure. I have a feeling they can be porous and let out the content, which I don't want when storing volatiles. Glass is amazing ;) I'm a bit sad we don't use it so much anymore.

@@petesmiscellaneousdiscover655 I thought about that. They need only be adequately strong material and to have a good liner. It's really the liner that seals the container. But I am not sure how strong 3D printed objects are in a case like that. There can be a lot of stress on the threads. You might also make a cap by making a casting of the inside (and outside?) of one of those old caps, then forming thermoplastic or an epoxy matrix using that mold. Simple plaster might do for a one-off. Maybe that's way too much effort for a little bottle. But life is art, right? :-)

@@jamesg1367 That's too much effort for me... Most likely will I order the caps, if I'm able to find them somewhere.

The stainig may come from the dissolution of Na+ ions out of poorly made cheap sodium glass. There is no remedy else to polish the damaged surface away.

I don't care I'm simply built different. But really, I'm not grossed out, there is worse things out there. Danger-wise, I dug out more than 100 bottles and I never even hurt myself. I would say I'm quite safe with it ;)
