Today, we tried out some survivalist food (at least, we think that's what this was), and let's just say it looked WAY worse than it tasted.

i grew up in poverty on a reservation, and every so often my mother would go to the distribution center to get “commods”. i remember they always gave us this type of meat. i thought it was gross at first, the thought of meat mushed inside a can but as always, my mom did her magic and made it work. seeing that can just brings back childhood memories as silly as that may seem.

it looks and taste like cat food cause yall don't know what to do with it. I have some in my cabinet now. U can put it in the skillet juice and all and let it heat. when the juice turns to liquid you can add a little flour and seasoning and you'll have beef and gravy. Don't be so quick to judge and be wasteful. and Then call it cat food. That food was given to the poor and still is. I wish I knew where to get some. I just lucked up on that can. WalMart carries it under Private Label KEYSTONE: If ya Drive truck over the road beats hell out of mystery truck stop grub at least here ya know 100% Quality Beef/No preservatives and with just some sea salt added! Eat some and put in cooler for late; keeps well; makes excellent BBQ sandwich either hot or cold, just add favorite BBQ sauce. CMV

The Pork, Beef, Powdered Milk, Farina, Peanut Butter, Cereals and canned juices they used to give us. They came in the White boxes with black print. My oldest sister used to make us Peanut Butter cookies with that peanut butter. The cereal was pretty good also. My mom used to make us tacos with the canned meats also

12" large skillet,cut up onions ,green peppers, dash of garlic powder, add 1 table spoon flour, salt and black pepper to taste. then add 4 cups cooked white rice, stir well and serve. this stuff makes some of the best good old fashion country dirty rice.

Heating it up in a pan is like 1000x better, that jelly stuff is the fat. People in the reservations grew up on this and is pretty amazing. When i first had it i was grossed out and then after that i couldn't get enough. I truly miss it and would love to have it again! If you ever get it again then heat it up and add some gravy to it, serve it with some corn and green beans and some bread.

I grew up very poor in the United States. I would have to get my clothes from the catholic church because at the time there was no bins to drop your clothing off at and we couldn’t afford second hand stuff from Salvation Army or Good Will. On days that we did eat, I remember eating cans of Beef just like that with only a picture of a cow and the word BEEF, cans of pork with pictures of a pig and the word PORK and cans like that with pictures of a chicken and the word Chicken on it. This is not funny and truth be told, it was a feast whenever we could get our hands on items like that.

Guys, I hope you're reading this. 1. You're using the can opener wrong! It's supposed to lay flat on the top and cut the sides of the can. Not the top! 2. Canned beef is like a Military ration. MRE style. People eat this often. So act like you have a pair and man up!

Had to come back and make another statement today I fixed cheddar cheese pierogies sauteed in butter and onion. I took about 25% of a can of this product and put it in a skillet. I added 2 tablespoons of flour and brought it to a simmer and then I added a half a cup of water salt and pepper to flavor with sour cream and poured it over the pierogies

It’s government issued food. Otherwise known as commodities. We lived on canned meat for many years, being that my family was super poor when I was young. It’s jiggles because the fat rises to the top. Normally one would scrape the fat off the top before diving in. Ha!

It's actually all of them are better commodities than the 70s. In the 70s the fat was almost 2 inches deep. They still give it out to the elderly and those who survive a flood, hurricane, tornado, etc. They also gave out honey and powdered eggs but those things are valuable now so they keep them. The cheese is still a big deal but it's not as good as it used to be. To the rest of the world it's known as government surplus

the jelly is called aspic... Nowadays thats what all the trendy kids are wanting to eat in the form of bone broth soup. You're supposed to heat meat, which will have the jelly turn back to juices. Who eats straight from the can? who eats cold beef. All cold beef is gross with the fat coagulated. Have to give you guys a thumbs down

These beef and the pork fully cooked in cans is delish. Toss it in a skillet and add some water and salt and heat it up. Remove the meat and toss some flour in the juice and make it into a gravy then re add the meat. When ready to eat put it over a slice of bread to make whats called shit on a shingle. Very yummy.

We got a can of the beef and it did remind me of dogfood right out of the can. All the chopped up blood vessels were very unappetizing. We drained off about 2 cups of grease (juice) and spent a lot of time picking out the vessel pieces. It did not have any flavor. We ate some with rice and threw the rest away. Yes, if I were starving I would be happy to have it. Luckily I have choices regarding food and will avoid lakeside canned meats in the future.

Heck my cats won't eat Starkist/Chicken of the Sea/Aldi tuna but they fight yfight each other for a chance lick the juice off the can. Stuff would make an excellent ration except it's to heavy to carry; beats a McDouble in nutrition any day of the week, get stiffed with a 100 Gram a day of Protein Diet sometime and this canned meat will be all ya can afford plus it's speedy to fix. How about some hand squeezed orange juice with a few raw eggs to save time in the morning; then later dine on canned meats. Wrap up the day with a cup of "Gun Powder Tea with Honey and Mares Milk"! @@2500west well one thing I can say about this product I have found it best to put it in the refrigerator overnight this way when you open it and pour it in a bowl you can separate all the fat and then go from there but the stuff make some great stew open-faced sandwiches. I've done some experimenting with this product and everything is turned out delicious
