My #1 favorite song by XJapan. In my humble opinion, one of the greatest bands that ever existed. Gene Simmons once said if they were from America they could’ve been the biggest band in the world. 🤘

dang.. only very few metal bands would incorporate piano and classical melodies in their scores.. the way I listened to this song it's like metal in the foreground and classical/ballad in the background. whoever arranged and composed the song is epic

I would suggest the song "Kurenai" from The Last Live, 1997. From Yoshiki's YT channel (he's the drummer, pianist, main songwriter and leader of X Japan): kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnLVcqGOgcd5mc0. The Last Live was their farewell concert at Tokyo Dome on December 31, 1997, after their vocalist Toshi (co-founder of the band, along with his childhood friend Yoshiki) decided to leave the band earlier that year (due to "musical differences" but actually because he got dragged into a cult called "Home of Heart" by his wife...). They have reunited now, however.

I would recommend "ENDLESS RAIN". It's an all time classic by XJAPAN. Also, "WEEKEND with Taiji's vocals" is great. Nice reaction!!

ya X is no joke first time I saw them was in 1989 with this lineup. It's sad that hide and Taji are gone RIP. I saw them several times in concert, and they are one of the best live bands ever. The band just dropped a new single today on Iturns. If you'r wondering hide is the blond haired guitarist and Taji is the bass player.

X-Japan is an Epic Story. You could do a mini-series just on their hair styling. The music is great, but the story of the band is one of euphoric highs and tragic lows. Tiaji, the bass player, and Hide, the lead guitarist with the explosion of hair, both died under tragic circumstances at different times. Toshi, the vocalist, was lured into a cult and quit the band, causing its breakup. X Japan reformed when he quit the cult. Yoshiki, the drummer/pianist, moved to LA and is now Gene Simmons's next door neighbor. Their New Years Eve Stadium concerts from the 90's are now legendary: watch them chronologically and witness the evolution of their wild Visual Kei style. See them gradually detox from hair product. They put on a great show.

Yes, "X" is a bit like Queen, Sex Pistols and Metallica all rolled into one as far as their influence on Japanese hard music is concerned. If you liked the piano, you're probably going to like this band. Yoshiki's "violon d'Ingres" (Ingres viola, aka someone absolutely brilliant at something he/she's known for is equally brilliant at something else) is as a concert pianist. How do you know when an old rocker is a success in Japan? When he is invited to write a piano concerto for the celebration of the Emperor's ten-year jubilee, like Yoshiki was in 1999, and he played it as soloist to the imperial couple too. (Probably kind of got him out of the depression over how X Japan broke up.) "Kurenai", "Rusty Nail", "Endless Rain" (ballad, and the song Yoshiki is most famous for in Japan), or why not "X" which is kind of the call-to-arms song for their fans. You will probably find a bunch of recommendations to "The Last Live", i.e. the final break-up concert on New Year's Eve 1997. That's pretty special, and you might, or might not, hold off on it. Live performances from the 1990's prior to that would be good. This is the classic (1987-1992) line up of Yoshiki, Toshi, Pata, Hide and Taiji. One of their first outings when they got their stuff together was the kind of legendary CBS Sony Audition in late 1987, landing that major label contract, where they highlighted their versatility. It's from 1987, so a bit of VHS quality though, and 20 min long so maybe outside the normal music reactions format. Still, long intro and then they do "Kurenai" (unusually in English even) and and extended version "Orgasm", with a bit of Toshi seemingly trash talking the whole event, since "X" know they can't lose a live performance ... and the host at the very end going "That was surprising.": kzbin.info/www/bejne/ama5dJqaaJuqo9Usi=WjafNZ520FZdwThn

Listen to Standing Sex and Sadistic Desire. That's the best guitar solo. And if I remember correctly, yoshiki (piano/drum) did stated that "Silent Jealousy" was the hardest song he ever composed while "Say Anything" is the hardest song to sing. Been their fan since 93

I'd highly recommend this as well as the orchestra version is just epic. The usual cliche reaction to x-japan is "Kurenai then Endless rain" and we definitely need more reactions to other equally popular songs in their repertoire.

First of all, a vocalist hair is real, actuality entire band hair is real, second Yoshiki is the band leader and drumer, pianist , composer and song writer. He did write 1 song take him 4 years to complete when he was in depression, song name is "Art of Life" a 30 mins live song only performs 2 days in tokyo in mid 90's. My opinion the best song is "Rose of Pain" especially live in tokyo hall with real orchestra, there's no other band do this. The best ballet "Endless Rain" and "Tears" and most powerful vocal in song is "Alive" please try those.

Kinda similar to groups like Queen, X is one of those groups best listened to live or through live recordings... A lot of the time anyway... There were some recordings in the last 5 years or so, when maybe the lead singer had a bad throat or something... I'm pretty sure he has recovered since then, although I haven't kept up with things very closely... But yeah, most of the time, especially in their prime, live is probably the way to go... The crowds can really add to the atmosphere as well... One of the better concerts to listen to stuff from might be The Last Live, especially the songs "Kurenai" and "Endless Rain"... The bassist here was really something, but sadly he got kicked out of the band for undisclosed reasons... I think I heard a rumour that it involved drugs, which is a huge no no in Japan, but I'm not sure if it has been confirmed or not... But anyway, if you want more of him, I think you want to check out stuff from '92 or earlier... The newer bassist is great too, but you know? Kinda fun to watch the drummer going for it too... In later stuff he can't rock out as hard and has to wear a neck brace, because he wrecked his neck headbanging too much >_

Loudness came before them, but I think X (Japan) is still looked at as the king of Japanese bands, metal or otherwise.
