It's wonderful to see how music flows through the ages and cultures, similar to how this African blues grew and evolved into the American blues we know today...needless to say, in the end, this music transcends any culture or race and is as pure today as it was in the beginning. Music=heaven...in my mind

Just saw him at the Narrows Center For the Arts in Fall River, MA. accompanied by an amazing harmonica player and another guy playing a freakingly wild gourd instrument called a calebasse. If you get the chance, see this guy live. The experience will stay with me forever!

Google translated: "So I open the big door of my house, because death spares no one, even if it is powerful. If death should spare someone because he has the power, if death should spare someone because he has a great reputation, Kalilou Then my brother would not have left this world, Yes, dear Pierrette would not have left this world."

Wow! I read about karkar years ago in a book called 'Mali Blues' and have been facinated by him ever since. This is so.....soulful. Beautiful beyond belief. Why is Ali Farka Toure so much more well known (and probably richer)?

Has anyone tried counting this? I just did and it has a 5-6-5 count every revoulution. I've never come across that before. I think this is genious because when you first listen to it it flows so smoothly you don't even notice how clever it is! Beautiful.
