This is a great video and for me quite a coincidence. I bought my grandson a Squire Strat for his 16th birthday 14 years ago. (He is now an officer in the RCMP and just marked his 30th birthday.) I pulled out the Squire just this morning to try it for the first time in about a year. I could not believe how playable it is. The string action is almost perfect, and the neck is nice and straight.. It's a great little guitar. However, the fret ends are a little sharp, though not too bad. I plan to dress them they way you did. The coincidence is that just after I played it, I came across your site and this video by accident. Thanks for the tips. (Subscribed.)

came across your channel the other day and subscribe strait away I have just bought the exact same guitar for my grandson I do look after my own guitars and quite competent but with it been a much smaller guitar I was worried about the set up because it as a hight action same thing intonation etcetera but have watch this I was able to set it up spot on and your so right about young kids giving up I got this actually of a some one who bought it and his son gave up for that reason thanks again looking forward to watching your videos past and present regards Steve a new fan

Most of these cheap guitars, especially the mini ones, come with a nut with slots that aren’t cut low enough so the bottom two frets play way out of tune no matter what. Once I filed the nut slots down on my Ibanez Mikro the intonation is pretty decent.

I replaced the 9s with half-flat wound 10s. Easier on the fingers.

Cool video thanks, so if I pick this one up for my kid how do I actually go about properly making all of the adjustments you made? I've never done any of these so not sure how, I guess I can look up other videos to see the technique for filing the frets, lowering the action, etc.?

You mite try coated strings too Ken they seem much easier on the fingers too. And I'm wondering about string guage.

Is this tuned standard or at a higher pitch? I've seen demos where medium gauge have been fitted (11's mostly) and the sound is excellent with better tuning because of greater tension. Excellent and objective overview of this guitar. Might have been handy for some to have comments about when you adjusted the saddles for improved intonation. Apart from that quibble - excellent. - thanks.

How was the string hight at the Nut? On the old guitar I started on.it wasn't high to speak of but was still hard on the fingers as I recall . a lot harder to push than on my old martin which until late recently.wich was very high.

Many people suggest using a heavier gauge string than what is on there from the factory. Like tens or 11’s. Do you agree with this?

Dave Gomes for a child, I would use extra light strings like 9’s or even 8’s if you can find them. Jmo
