Great instructional for those of us that didn't know how to do this, make your own decals I mean. I already knew about the prep work & finishing from the body-shop work that I've done for myself in the past, car - motorcycle or guitar - it doesn't matter as for the most part the process is the same for all except for obvious differences like in wet- sanding! Anyways liked & subbed......

Mr Boudreau - have you ever considered trying a French polish on the back of the guitar neck? Wait time on the lacquer between coats is almost zero. And you can have a mirror finish.

When the laquer is curing for 6 weeks, can you still play the guitar? LOL. I have a neck on the way to me now. It was just done so there is no way it had time to cure for 6 weeks. I also want to add a waterslide.

Pretty awesome When you wet sand it to get the lines of the decal off, do you use water or the naphtha again. You do great videos with the best content thank you 🙏🏻
@wm179597 жыл бұрын
Excellent video. Thanks for that. The only thing I would do different is not use lacquer for the final clear coat. Do you have any other suggestions of what to use? Obviously it has to be wet sanded and polished. I once did this with polyurethane enamel but that product is no longer available in Canada.
@dougmorissette4593 жыл бұрын
What if you are putting a new decal on a headstock that was finished in a polyurethane clear? Lacquer would eat into and lift the polyurethane finish. Would you clear it with polyurethane? You can spray polyurethane over lacquer but not lacquer over polyurethane. I had worked for 31 years in the Automotive Paint and Auto Body Trade and spent 10 years as a technical advisor.

Two types of decal paper, clear & white... I gather that means that any area of the design that is white [because printers don't print white] will be transparent on 'clear decal paper' and only appear white on the other type. Your model is white plastic so this wasn't obvious to me at first.

Great video tutorial Sir. I'm wanting to redo my neck and if it turns out half as good as this il be happy. I have a question however, my neck is very light in color and I'm planning on doing the shoe polish trick to get a darker tone and more relic aged look. So in your opinion should I do the shoe polish first then this and once it's sat and dry hit it with clear coat? Would that product a good look in your opinion?

Just of curiosity as I'm going to start building some guitars... still if all parts are licensed by Fender, the final product wouldn't be "licensed" by them. Now if you as "a shop" or as "luthier" are, then yes. But then you should be licensed by them and extend also a proof of authenticity, with every guitar. If you don't have that, you should put "all parts lic. by Fender", that's one thing, but the guitar as it's workmanship still isnt. That's what I read about. Also as a non-Fender original (or licensed" shop, to avoid any frauds, you should mark both neck and body with your logo.. Best way.. burning it in. Maybe this stuff only applies some countries? But should be standard procedure from any luthier. What are your thoughts on it?
