On a recent house pick, I bought a bag of jewelry. I barely looked in the bag before buying, but thought why not take a chance! Let's see what's inside!

Renee, lay out all the jewelry into necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets. Then take a piece, like a necklace and see if there are other pieces that match it so you can make it into a set. I think there are a lot of earrings there that match the necklaces. I use the little plastic ziplock bags they sell in Walmart craft dept (100 for one dollar) to put the jewelry in, so they don't tangle up.

Awesome bag!! 18k means the ring is gold! Whoot!! There is 10k, 14k, 18k, 22k, and 24k. Also, .925 means the item is silver although some vintage silver will say "sterling." Pro tip.. men's rings are almost always gold, silver or platinum. Men do not wear "costume jewelry" the way women do, and when I find men's rings they are almost always a precious metal. I'm a huge fan of your channel and wish you more lucky happy hunting!

What a fun bag! I inherited many charm bracelets and pins from my grandmothers. They were all the rage in the 1960s, I guess. I've seen other resellers buy ultrasonic cleaners --not too pricey-- to clean jewelry. Many chemicals are harsh on the vintage stuff, so be careful, which is tough when you're dealing with the oily residue of nicotine. Thanks for sharing your finds!

The mortar and pestle items could be things given to a Pharmacy School graduate. And the mini license plate that guaranteed delivery if placed in any mailbox is a service for disabled American vets (my Dad was one). You put a mini version of your car's license plate, which the Disabled American Vets had made for you) on your keychain. And if you ever lost your keys, anyone who found them could just put the keys into any mailbox and they would eventually be returned ti the owner thru the USPS and the DAV. The Vets had a national database. I always wanted to look at the mini plate when I was little because it was so cute!😁

I'm not a jeweler, just a retired person who loves to watch your videos. I have found that when you get ready to clean the jewelry, a good thing to have is a child's small sized, soft toothbrush or even a cleaned mascara brush to clean in and under and around things. And when I'm done cleaning and towel drying jewelry, I use my blow-dryer on the air only setting to eliminate any residual moisture hiding in the crevices.

@@rpkent8884Thank you. I like vintage costume jewelry (especially charm bracelets and pins/brooches) and do not mind if it isn't real silver or gold. But I sometimes need to remove dust, dried hairspray or cologne from purchases, and I do not want any residual crud, rust, water spots etc. I also do not want to loosen any rhinestones, pearls or cabochons. Using a little brush to delicately clean jewelry and then using the blow-dryer just seemed the logical things to do.

Renee, now that you are a collector of jewelry you need the basics...a magnifier, a magnet, maybe a gold silver acid test, Remember not all gold is marked, maybe a diamond tester, us pickers have to ready for everything and anything. A small weigh scale so you know the amount of gold & silver you have found. Happy Picking!

Just because the metal might not be sterling or gold, vintage costume jewelry has value, sometimes a lot of value. There are web sites that give you tips for finding what collectors are looking for. Yes, it will generally speaking have more value if it has a maker's mark regardless of being costume or fine jewelry. I have been making jewelry for years and have sold vintage fine and also costume jewelry online.What a haul you have. Good luck.

Texas Gal Jewelry Lovers is great for helping with identifications. First star pin was from Girl Scouts. You need to get a jewelers loop and a magnet as gold and silver are most times not magnetic. Charm bracelets can make good money, also maybe garnet and a aquamarine ring in there. Margaret @ Texas Gal Treasures does a lot of jewelry hauls I have learned a lot watching her.

Just an FYI to viewers Pro tip - Screw back earrings can often be converted into a pierced style by taking off the sback and replacing with a wire. Takes only a needle nose plier and maybe a jump ring and of course the wire/shepherds hook. Those items can often be repurposed from other pieces, (say, a one only earring).

The red 'stone' is faux coral beads, probably glass and is it marked JAPAN on hook clasp?, costume jewelry from post ww2 Japan. Duplicate pins either the same size or multiple sizes are called scatter pins and were purchased & worn together. The heart pin with blue iridescence is a butterfly wing & may have a painted design (ladies in wigs with fancy dresses or tropical beach scenes). They are collectible & some are sterling. The rings mostly look to be costume or gold plated. But I would double check the silver tone ring with the oval blue faceted stones. It looked like it could be sterling and the stones could be either blue topaz or aquamarine (which would be of greater value). Also, I would check the gold tone heart pendant on the gold tone chain. The chain looked like gold. Remember to check both the pendant and the chain as they may not have been originally bought together.

I really think the stones are blue topaz. Aquamarines that color would be pricey.@@PaperandMoose

The ring at the end that had several blue stones in a row, I believe is an Avon ring. I have one like that and it's blue topaz and sterling silver. Avon did and still does make a nicer grade of jewerly along with the nicer costume pieces.

Lots of fun vintage! I love old charm bracelets. The star pin with the yellow plastic circle in the first box is a girl scout pin. They were given for each year you were a member.

Corot is high end costume jewelry. Love the charm bracelets. I had a social studies teacher in Jr. High that jingle all the time because of her 4 charm bracelets...from her travels. Love it! I'm on my second bracelet.

Renee! I yelled out I had that same R ring! You have Elvis and Ellis Island too. Maybe the owner was an Avon Lady...love the Kiss, too. fyi, say brooch like coach. be careful with the plastic items, like that orange and yellow bracelet. they could be bakelite. google how to clean safely. To clean verdigris, the green corrosion on jewelry, dip a toothpick in vinegar and carefully drag the wood across the metal, then wipe with an old t-shirt scrap then repeat using a clean toothpick occasionally. try not to get the vinegar on the other parts. may take a while. If the red stone necklace feels cold to the touch they may be coral ,or cinnabar, which I have heard is poisonous. If they feel warm they may be just plastic or resin. the troll might be worth something as Hong Kong is no more. Love the Dennison case, might be celluloid or bakelite and very fragile. could be worth more than the earrings. you can use a magnet to see if a metal is steel, rather than silver. that stocking pin would look cute in a display. You might want to sell the mortar and pestel tie tack and cuff links set on Ebay. A pharmacist might like them. the black and gold ring might be 18 karat gold with the person's initials inside. love the truckers ring too. if you have Google Lens on your phone, use it to take a picture of an item, like the crests, and it will bring up possible matches. to remove smells, I would put all the jewelry in a large box with a bowl of baking sode in the center and close it up for a few days. maybe stir the bowl and set some more days. such great stuff, thx, Renee.

To clean the jewellery you can always fill up your kitchen sink with warm water and add some dishwashing liquid. Let them sit for a bit before using a gentle scourer to lift the dirt.

Some vintage jewelry can be worth alot of money depending on company etc. Some of those are celluloid and bakelite. Collectible too. Also those screw back and clip ons can be made into fishooks you can wear now or some of it used to make necklaces etc if u take them apart. I do it all the time. Oh, and keep all the boxes. They can sell by themselves alone.

The yellow with star pin reminds me of the Girl Scout Metal. 🤷🏻‍♀️. So many cool jewelry. You did well with what was found. Never heard of a truck driver ring but that’s cool. ~ Texas

Some very nice stuff in there. Some of the jewelry that feels like plastic may be bakelite(sp?) They used it in days gone by. I think it's popular and worth some money.

The screwback earrings were antique back in the 60s/70s. Great camera angle! Wish I could remember the name of the yellow, orange and red pieces. The Auction Professor has videos on that. It’s like high dollar plastic... melamine??? You can also download the magnifier app and zoom in super tight. Just some thoughts... have a great day!

Could the colored plastic be baseline. If you rub it and it gets warm it is suppose to be bakelite

Hi Renee, the shield shaped pin that you called a family crest. Is a U.S. Army unit distinctive insignia.
@rosemarysimpson3976
@rosemarysimpson3976 3 жыл бұрын
To be more specific -- a matching set of WWII U.S. Army unit crests. These would be worn on their dress uniform collars. The earlier unit crests would have been a screw back. These are still used today in the U.S. Army. The modern insignia will have what they call clutch backs... When identifying jewelry - the back of the jewelry will tell you a lot, i.e. who made it, the material used etc...
