Just purchased this 2009 Honda Civic Si with over 200k miles! It’s got some issues, but there just might be a diamond underneath.

I have an 06 Si right at 200k miles. No major problems. I replaced the starter about 5 years go, also had clutch bearing replaced a few years ago. Had the clutch replaced while they were in there, I use to beat on it in my younger days. I’m about to replace the water pump it started making noise about a week ago. Only other issue I had very early on was a rear wheel bearing going bad but luckily it was covered by warranty. Still runs great has never thrown an engine light.

Maybe it's because I was in high school when these came out and was around them a lot, but it's crazy that a car that has 200k miles on it and has taken this much of a beating still seems like such a sleek, modern car. The 2 tier gauge clusters in these and in the 9th gen Si's (which I also owned) still feel futuristic to me, even more so than the gauges in my brand new one (with the half digital, half analog cluster for some reason).

Love my 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan with 266K (I left it totally stock too) I bought new in 2007. Still rips... It's a keeper still fun to drive even with a lot of miles even though I just bought a new 2022 Honda Civic Si last Oct. Other than the normal tune-up stuff such as engine oil and cabin and engine filters, spark plugs, MAF sensor. Clean the throttle body it will accelerate like a bat out of hell and then reset it with ECU re-learn (if you can get it to work, I never could by disconnecting battery and holding RPM at a set speed) or just use a scan tool (like Foxwell NT510 Elite with Honda software) that can send Honda commands to it to reset idle speed.

@@BetaBuxDelux My original OEM clutch went out at around 243K and about 5K later or so did the OEM starter, I still have original alternator. I ended up replacing with factory clutch kit (why not? look at the life..)and my mechanic was stunned that the flywheel looked brand new he didn't have to replace or lathe it. If you treat the car decent and not beat it up too bad, expect a long, long life. Most people don't know about this but there is a oil deflector tool to avoid the oil bath on you and the CV Boot / Axel if you want to do the oil yourself. Google this part number VSB02C000033. Note the hole towards the end this actually wedges at a metal corner to hold it in place. I didn't figure this out until a year later with a shop light underneath the car. Plan on taking off the front passenger tire to get the oil deflector tool in there.

I replaced the shocks on front and rear with OE parts, replaced all the 02 sensors and front wheel bearings. Also brought it to Honda for the 200k full service. They replaced the spark plugs and the belt. Timing chain is still solid but might replace the tensioner. My only gripe is the awesome factory stereo quit working. I ordered a factory head unit from Jeg’s and it’s on back order. I’d recommend one of these to anyone who wants a reliable commuter that is fun to drive and gets about 28 mpg as long as you don’t hit Vtec too often.

I have the same car, bought at 120k miles about 2 years ago, Had the paint peeling issue so I wrapped it with Avery wrap. Bought with a O2 Sensor code, it seems like the previous owner tried to use some random aftermarket O2 and it wasn't communicating well, replaced with Denso unit from RockAuto, (Denso was the OEM supplier for these cars.) Plastic intake was all cracked so I sadly got a Mishimoto pod filter intake. I didn't know what the previous owner has done so I changed all fluids, added in the shifter base bushing kit from Acuity, the Cable bushings and the K series trans spring kit. I had issues with the CMC, so I replaced it with hybrid racing's built CMC, no issues with that, stock style ones I had to change every other month for a bit. Had to replace the starter, it randomly went out. Also had a problem with the Slave Cylinder, but it appears the previous owner was messing around with the slave and CMC. I do not fault the car for this. I'm worried about possibly having to replace a clutch someday, but I already bought the clutch and kit, so it's ready to go, as It's the only thing I can really see will be an issue for me someday. Today she sits around 150K miles, and I hope to get her up to the 400s. My 5th gen is pushing 250k! love my civics. FOR SOME REASON MY SI Burns so much oil if I use Mobil 1 5W-30 Full Synth. When I run Castrol the burning is heavily reduced, but seems to be accelerated by hitting VTEC lots. If you have an oil burning issue I suggest to try switching oil brands. Personally I only run WIX filters on all my cars as well, and OEM fluids for trans/ps is very crucial for Hondas. Love the electronic PS on this car tho!

I love my Fa5! You can tell when the v-tec kicks in, she screams!!!. For a 2k she still sounds healthy the loud ticking is just the fluid injection. The 8th gen is stick-shift friendly. It will not let you stall. Try it out Put it in 1st gear and release the clutch slowly. Recall: paint on the 8th gen suck The Passager airbag needs to be replaced ( it has a metal object if deployed) Contact a honda dealer to get it replaced for free Things to replace: Master cylinder/ sleeve cylinder (EM1) Adjust clutch rod height ( help with the second gear issue) Bleed clutch Wheel rain guard If a light bulb needs to be replaced ( the only clear access is through the rain guard. Do not remove the under-cover for the rear( the trunk has a vent for each side behind the carpet. if removed you will have a lake in your trunk. Unless you block it. Check the cabin filter (located behind the glove department) to get access and squeeze the side glove wall inward. This is just what has gone with my si "Welcome to the 8th gen community" (safe travels)

In my opinion those cars were so ahead of their time that K20 motor will never die and when it does, it's so easy to rebuild, And not that expensive if you have to bring it to a shop for a head gasket or something, And if you want to add a turbo, bolt-ons and you'll be smoking Hellcats.

Anything past 2001 from Honda/Acura is significantly more dailyable than their 90's chassis lines. The DC5, FG2, FA5 feel modern enough, my only gripe with my old DC4's was that it felt cramped, and the car rattled like it was going to fall apart at times, but dumb reliable nevertheless.

many cats won't even make it to 180k without alot of problems, even when well maintained...the k24's excel in comparison to others, especially 4 bangers..it's not unheard of for big v8's to last a real long time without issues, but 4 bangers require more wear, and tear just to get them going, and that alone means that the k24 holds it place fairly well..

And exhaust line changed) kept everything else stock. They dont make em like that anymore. Been scared of those 1.5 liters turbo ever since they got it out.
