Boulder Dash has one of the most out of control and speedy feelings of a wood coaster. It keeps its momentum going and just doesn't let up... Another coaster doing the same thing is Twister at Knoebels. While not a top 10 coaster by any stretch, the pacing it amazing. For those wondering where fresh wood versus Titan Track exists if you look at the video and pause it as it approaches, newer sections are fresh track, what you're seeing is a new top layer of southern yellow pine, the Titan Track is GREY in color and only appears on the drop leading to the first incline and after the turn around going into the first airtime hill. 0:38 right rail is fresh Southern Yellow Pine. You can see the board cut in the wood. 0:51 is the transition from fresh SWP wood to Titan track. 1:05 begins the transition from Titan track back to wood. 1:14 is fresh southern yellow pine, 1 layer (top layer) 1:30 also fresh southern yellow pine 1:34 Left rail is a fresh layer of southern yellow pine. 1:46 starts as Southern Yellow Pine then by 1:47 transitions to Titan Track. You can also identify Titan Track by the cross ties as they are grey and steel the other time section spots I mention, the cross ties are wood. Pausing the video you can actually see the difference and the texture.

@@landscapefutures Dude, I love Boulder Dash, when I first had the chance to ride it, opening year... dude, it knocked phoenix off the top spot as my favorite... still to this day I consider it the best terrain coaster ever constructed. The only reason it didn't remain at #1 was due to lack of maintenance... it became way to rough and LC seemed to be ignoring, probably just the parent companies at those times milking the park for every nickel it could. I would hate to see it Titan tracked 100% but sadly I see wooden coasters becoming redefined because of Titan Track... out of all the replacement Track systems on the market, Titan seems to be the best product. I think it would have been better for GCI to paint the TT to as close to a natural wood color as possible.... but hey that is on GCI. However, I do see TT becoming the the to track system on all future wooden coasters which will cause them to be re-defined, they will still have wood frames, but Titan Track as the running rail system. No denying the results Titan Track provides... Knoebels should consider it for Twister as they recently retracked the rose bowl in 2023 and it is worse than it was before the retracking.
@landscapefutures6 ай бұрын
@@WooHoo-itsGaryGnu you're probably right. MONEY talks, and it's a worthy investment to eventually do the entire thing in TT LC isn't really a high revenue park so it makes sense that they would patchwork it like that, initially at least. And yeah, the park has been notorious for shady maintenance practices. BD is the best terrain coaster in the world, imo and agreed. Ultimately it wouldn't matter to me if it was all TT or patchwork TT. The lore is still there And same, I first rode the coaster for my 8th grade LC field trip lol. I was absolutely blown away. Me and my friends road it like 10+ times that day! Proud that we have this woodie in CT, being a nutmeger myself. I do feel the park knows BD is their crown jewel terrain woodie, and the world's at large...Hopeful they will continue to do right by it moving forward... Finally props to GCI tbh, what an incredible company. I am sure they will continue to innovate their services

you should have rode it when it was brand new. Opening year this thing was just amazing. I went on a 40 degree night during a Halloween fest and because the park was not crowded I achieved so many credits in that 5 hour window I literally had dreams about it for weeks. Over the years it became rough... as all wooden coasters do as the Southern yellow pine doesn't age well and with the forces this coaster produces it tears it up fast. The new Gravity Group track system they used on Wildcat would greatly benefit this coaster, but the owners are opting for Titan track and once they get past 1500 ft RCDB will reclassify Boulder Dash as a Hybrid, they did that to Lightning Rod. Still even it's roughest state it was no where near as rough as the former Hershey Park wildcat or Roar at Six Flags America.

I’m glad I got to ride Boulder Dash when it was new & one of the greatest wood coasters in the world! Throughout its life it’s been neglected & gotten rough, modified & re-profiled, now it has steel track on two, long sections. Boulder Dash is not even a wood coaster anymore, it’s a true, pure hybrid. It used to be that when a park purchased a wooden roller coaster they were also assuming the cost of keeping the coaster in great condition. Now many parks want shortcuts around work, time and effort. Placing steel track on portions of a wood coaster that wear down faster is a shortcut, a workaround that changes the very nature & definition of that particular roller coaster. Fuck Titan Track.

@VestedUTuber7 ай бұрын
1. This isn't a full conversion. 2. Titan Track is by GCI, not RMC 3. Parks are choosing to go with hybrid track over pure wood as wood will need to be replaced far more often than steel.
