"Budget Malcolm X" is probably one of the funniest pieces of writing I've encountered in the _Deus Ex_ series. Also, as for your point about how refreshing it was to see attractive-looking females in a game and suggesting that Square Enix is to credit, I don't think so. _Human Revolution_ had maybe five females at most who weren't off-putting, especially with all the weird hairstyles they had going on, haha.

I got back into Deus Ex Mankind Divided recently and had some spare pocket money to get the season pass. System Rift, I thought it was ok. A Criminal Past, I really thought this was real good. Personally, with Mankind Divided, I’d love to see more of Adam Jensen’s future adventures. It’s a better game than CyberPunk 2077 (as of this moment).

I have no idea if the writer for HR and MD is even working for Eidos atm. She's keeping very much to herself ever since they got pulled from Deus Ex... And the lead artist, Johnathan Jacques Belletette? He no longer works there. And Michael McCann last worked on Borderlands 3's soundtrack (surprisingly, I was shocked when I heard some familiar sound...) But even when Deus Ex does return, it will be just that little bit different... I hope it lives up to what Eidos did.

Mankind Divided hit so many highs, including almost perfecting a number of mechanics central to immersive sims: incredibly detailed and interconnected hubs that encourage (but don't require) exploration, multiple potential approaches to problems/obstacles, a good hacking mechanic (but also a way of circumventing if you're not in the mood), good/very good dialogue system (apart from a few strange interactions with "sellers" for some reason), good stealth and combat, high production values, incredible sound design (including a great sound track), and great environmental storytelling that, if you pay attention closely, fills in a lot of blanks that a casual playthrough would leave uncovered, but still leaves just enough unknowns to keep you wondering what "really" happened . Palisade Bank, and Criminal Past (and to a lesser extent System Rift) probably stand as some of the best examples of what you can do with this genre. The character development and overall story arc of Mankind Divided were not up to the standard set by the original JC Denton Deus Ex or Human Revolution, which was disappointing, but I suspect was more a high-level publisher/commercial decision rather than the fault of the developers. All in all, the series is just crying out for further development. I had hoped Cyberpunk 2077 might have scratched the Deus Ex itch somewhat, but CD Project Red probably spent too long focusing on trying to create a next-gen open world, rather than focus on smaller more detailed levels to push their story forward. Here's to hoping that Square Enix see some sense and bring this series back with even further refinements to the immersive sim genre.

Just finished all DLCs yesterday and A Criminal’s Past blew me away with how crazy good it is. It’s so satisfying to crack through the prison’s security inch by inch with very limited resources. The story is quite plain and generic on the surface, but you can find something eerily wrong with the story by digging deeper with readings and small details in cutscenes. What I like most about this dlc is how harder being a pacifist is in this game compared to the base game. Through all the dlc, all I found are around 20 rounds of stun ammo, 10 tranq darts and a small handful of gas grenades; which obviously aren’t enough to knock everyone in the prison out. It forced me to count my shot and not tase anyone I see like the base game, and always reminds me of how much easier it is if I just grab a gun and kill everyone. Being a pacifist is something I have to work for in this dlc and not just normal shooting with “knockout” instead of “dead”. (I chose not to use the drug or biocell because I thought there would be a repercussions later in the story, but found out there is none after I finished the dlc lol)

Avoided the pill and the modded biocell because I thought there was some sort of after effect, but it turned out to be nothing. I finally got into this game when I wanted to several times but It never stuck to me. Then when I heard the TF29 song in the HQ I just felt this vibe and then the gameplay loop also connected for me, using the stun gun and just pew pewing my way through. I was amazed how good the writing was and the level design and Prague itself. I know czech so it was really fun to listen in to conversations. It's so sad that they didn't get another chance at a Deus ex, when I think this game in many ways is better at being cyberpunk than cyberpunk. There are so many hilarious details if you pay attention as well, like I broke in Prague into a storage facility that belonged to a store, and when I next time spoke to the store owner he hinted he had seen me on the security footage, and I was shocked and thought it was amazing. I have played a shitton of games as well through my life, but mankind divided was a game where I actively didn't rush the main story and went through the side missions as well. Give it a try folks, when you get into Deus Ex finally after fiddeling with the controls and all, it's so worth it. It's a shame the game is so short..

Shame they couldn't incorporate that yellow hoodie guy (Ivan Berk) into the game better. Could've worked well as a boss fight at the end of the GARM mission. Imagine something like this: Encounter #1 - cameo right before the bombing Encounter #2 - in the middle of the Golem City mission. He gets harassed by some cops and you can choose to help him. Desperate Measures - as a main story quest during the 2nd visit to Prague. You learn that he was the bomber here. Encounter #3 - GARM mission. Either a combat boss battle or a dialogue battle, depending if you helped him out in Golem City. Dialogue battle could end with him betraying Marchenko and giving you his kill switch. Desperate Measures feels like a better version of the Tong Rescue DLC from DX:HR. Since we do actually visit the security company HQ this time. I think we were supposed to visit Belltower HQ in DX:HR but it had to be cut. Man, DX:HR had a loooooot of cut content. Belltower HQ, Upper Hengsha hub, Montreal hub, India hub, Purity First facility mission, etc.

They definitely need to get back to Deus Ex. There's also no reason in theory why Jensen has to be a trilogy, a lot of times doing a 4th is seen as a cash grab but if the quality is still there and the narrative isn't finished it can be justified. A third could be about Jensen and the fourth could be just before Denton... They're already talking about nano augmentation in Human Revolution and we get a snippet of theory progress on this at the end of Mankind divided but it's really not explored at all, another 2 games could be easily doable without it feeling cash grabby or trying to cram a little tiny bit of remaining story into 2 more games because there isn't a tiny bit left there's still a lot they can do between now and Denton.
